i thought they laid eggs?
-
how big a spider is that?
-
Hope you killed them all or you going to have a problem.
-
that is fkn creepy
-
they do, but several species of spiders carry their young on their back until they are ready to live on their own. if you see it in the US it's typically a wolf or huntsman spider.

the spider in the OP is a huntsman (also called a wood spider).
grats on murdering an entire family, MUPP. you jerk -
-
-

dammit milo -
people that kill spiders must enjoy living with actual pests. incredibly odd if you ask me.

especially a huntsman! they rape cockroaches, beetles, etc... they are sick hunters (thus the name ldo) -
allowing one spider to live to keep out the mosquitos or whatever is one thing...allowing them to reproduce and take over seems like quite another.
-
whats your obsession with spiders? every 6 months or so a spider thread comes along and you are all in that shit.
-
I have a huntsman living in the drain of our spare shower. We call him Ralphie. Love that guy.
-
We have a no kill policy in our house. I catch flys, spiders, earwigs and all bugs alive and let them go outside. Even in the winter in the middle of the night in my underwear after I wake up from them crawling on me.

I also don't understand people's irrational behavior towards them. the spider in the OP is completely harmless, and so are all those babies. they won't cause an infestation, most of them will die or be eaten by other spiders, lol
there are 2 spiders to worry about being bitten by in the US - the black widow and the brown recluse. -
A spider big enough to eat cockroaches seems like just about as big of a problem as the cockroaches. Maybe more of a problem, given that cockroaches aren't venomous and generally have the courtesy to stay in the walls (and cockroaches are by far my biggest irrational fear...I still freak out about a time two years ago when I accidentally touched a dead one).

edit: actually, I just visualized my apartment with a cockroach infestation, and that would definitely be worse, never mind. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck cockroaches. ugh. *shiver* -
a cockroach is a pest. it offers nothing to humans. a spider is a benefit. facts

EDIT: just saw this on wiki: "Huntsman spiders are widely considered beneficial because they feed on insect pests such as cockroaches."
jus sayin -
I'm pretty sure I got bitten by one of these last year and my hand swelled for two days...because of the actions of one, none shall get a free pass
-
Edited By: TheWacoKidd Jul 31st, 2012 at 01:44 AMmost of the common species are defined as pests. I'm sure there are some out there that have some type of benefit. what did you see on google? curiousOriginally Posted by LatestLines2
I figured that too but just did a quick google search and found out that cochroaches do have some benefits...none that i give a fuck about but still
EDIT: this could be cool if true: http://phys.org/news202999735.html -
Honestly, I don't see the difference between marrying a spider and marrying a person of the same gender as you.
-
little miss muffet sat on a tuffet,
eating her curds and whey.
along came a spider and sat down beside her,
so she squished its guts out with a spoon.
true story -
All of this. Only spider I have killed in the last decade was a black widow, and only cause it was a family get-together and I doubt anyone else would have been okay letting it live.
