This will be my first time goin, thought i'd make a thread since it worked so well for WSOPC-Tunica (shipped event #5 for $25k). Apparently the casino doesnt have a hotel which i thought was strange....i just booked about a 10min drive away. Headin up sunday night and gotta leave friday unfortunately, would really like to play the m/e. So who all is coming and who has been before? Any tips about where to eat etc? -
The area right around the casino is really nasty. I think there are some decent parts of Hammond, but I know you'll def need to get in a car drive a bit. Perhaps someone who is more familiar with the exact area can be of more assistance.
Also I know they market themselves as a 20 minute drive from downtown Chicago, but that's not really realistic. I mean maybe at midnight it is but if you are coming or going during the day budget more time than that.
GL! -
gonna be there for event 1b on friday, event 2 and then nightlys most likely, leaving monday due to school. Will be up there with chrispy2005 and chazley, i think they r both playing full schedules for the 2 weeks. hopefully meet up with tedstretch also

Crappy area for sure, i would just stay at the hyatt by mccormick place. Pretty sure there is a shuttle, and its not much further than the shitty hammond hotels. Good luck, horshoe is actually a pretty cool casino with a nice poker room.

Yeah Hammond is a Shitty Area. I used to deal blackjack at one of the casinos out there. Regardless the Horseshoe is the best poker room in the midwest In my opinion.
-
I am heading there thursday... playin event #1 friday and event #2 on saturday... stayin at the majestic about 8 mins away...its pretty shitty but i get to stay there for free! It wont be hard to spot me... Ill be that nacca wit all dem chips

Yeah the casino is nice as far as casinos go and the poker room is very nice too. But the OP was looking for suggestions about where to eat and things to do in the vicinity. Just wanted him to know he wouldn't find a lot of that right around the casino and that he'd likely need to have access to a car if he was planning on venturing out.
Does anyone know if the tournaments are gonna be hosted in the poker room or in the larger room, think its called The Venue, typically used for concerts and such. This is what they used for WSOP and poker room was just for cash games. -
I'll be playing event #1 on friday

Reason: Sick brag OP -
Events are always hosted in the venue....food around hammond is the pitts, strack and van til grocery store on calumet for cheaper food, if u want a good meal go to the city, Gibsons and the chophouse have good steaks, deep dish pizza go to ginos east or lou malnottis, bbq go to smoque but their menu is limited to what they cook for that day. Also hot dougs has the best hot dogs in chicago and duck fat fries that are the bomb.

Does any one know how the two day events work? I'm looking to play event #2, but I wanted to know about how many levels they would play on day 1?

Does anyone know how many are left in either event #1 or #2?

side note... went into day 2 with 176k at 3/6k and lost my whole stack blind vs blind and was left with 5.5k... less than one big... and got all the way back where my peak stack was 600k... was pretty surreal experience!
