I was playing with another regular in Luton last week and he mentioned the Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT), saying they ran some good events. They play the occasional tourney at The "G" in Luton. I checked out their site and saw an article on UK rankings by a guy called Dan Cypra, who is also involved with this Pocket Fives site. I checked it out, and although Cypra is American I suppose that doesn't preclude him from doing an article on British rankings. I was surprised to see someone at Pocket Fives, especially an American, associated with APAT, as I have not seen them mentioned on Pocket Fives. I looked back and saw a few posts from several years ago, but that is about it.
Does anyone here play at live APAT events? I have seen APAT events in The "G" schedule and always wondered what they were like, and who could play. It sounded like it was easy to join, so I joined this evening. I am presuming I am now a member so can play in their events. They also have an online site called Poker.co.uk. I joined that too, but generally hate online and don't know whether to risk a few quid with them. I realise that any depost with an online site is a very risky business, and could be the end of your money. Does anyone play there, and if so, what are your impressions? -
Thanks for noticing our article at APAT. We're starting to work with APAT for several UK-related features and promotions, the Rankings Update you read being one of them.
Here's a link to the UK Rankings Update for anyone who missed it:

Thanks Dan. Any information supplied from members would be welcome.
I was higly amused by the old school player telling me he had managed to insult the Amateur World Champion, by asking him who the hell he is, after he saw several reverential youngsters passing by with compliments and congratulations. That sounds like me. I don't know who the hell anyone is, and in all honesty, don't much care.
