Title says it all. Looking to grind some $1/2NL in my downtime in Vegas the next few days, where are the most fish at generally?
Thanks in advance. -
I always have had my best results at MGM and Flamingo -- ABC poker will normally allow for a good return at these 2.
I've also had good results at Treasure Island, but I've also had a very large losing session there. Caesar's dealers normally go there to play and are pretty good. In other words, it is a tougher nut to crack if those dealers are there.
If you are venturing to Freemont, Golden Nugget spreads a good game and since there is no buy in maximum, you occasionally will get someone who buys in for 4-5K, plays half the hands raising to 20 pre and then shoving post flop. If you are comfortable playing that type of game, it has good benefit.
I recommend allvegaspoker.com for a good review of all the rooms plus the daily tourneys spread at each. -
I would tend to pick a larger room so that I can table select. Venetian is good. Personally I enjoy playing at Aria
-
Vegas local too
I've found the worst players generally at MGM; but plenty of foreigners play at the bellagio-the kinds of foreigners with alot of money and little knowledge of the game.
I've been on plenty of tables at the aria (1/3 there) where I thought half the table was waiting for a 2/5 or higher game-level of play was very good for a low-level vegas table. not always the case, but i've had this happen more than once.
In general I've thought the 1/2 games at the venetian had above average players (for vegas) but still very beatable. -
I vote for MGM for 1-2 NL ... usually easy to get a seat and usually more tourists than locals...
If you sit at a Vegas table with 9 locals, YOU will be the fish ! Table selection is 1/2 the battle. -
Was coming to say the same. The 2/5 game there is stupid soft as well, with just straight tourists buying in for $100 for a one hand dump. Whenever I go to Vegas I always play at the MGM. -
Fuck the MGM. They cut me and Zepp off one night for drinking our shots of jager "to fast". Then they kicked someone out for saying "fuck" while talking on the phone.
-
+ whatever on the MGM and Bellagio
-
pretty sure that was sarcasm brah
imo downtown is the spot to be for low stakes stuff
i dont think ive ever seen a thinking player outside of a tourney at golden nugget or binions.
and +1 for mgm
i think the better players gravitate to the nicer rooms like V and bellagio and aria
they made the trip to Vegas to grind all week/weekend so they want to do it in a nice place or a place with a good poker rep
I think you'll catch more fish at places like Flamingo , Luxor , Monte Carlo .... you know places that aren't on the top of peoples lists for poker. you'll get the casual people who saw the poker room where they're staying want to give it a try.
also ...everyone is drunk at Oshea's at all times... -
Lots and lots of regs @ Bell and MGM and Aria
-
easy way to make some quick cash in the 1/2 NL in vegas is show up wearing some nascar garb and bet out of turn a few times and forget to put your blind out the first few orbits. They will think you're a total newb and try to push you off every hand. Seriousley, just play ABC poker and you can easily crush the 1/2 NL in Vegas. I think it's the softest cash games in the country.
-
Pretty much what others have said.. but I mean it's $1/$2. It's highly unlikely you're going to run into a table full of professional grinders.
-
yup Bally's was the softest I encountered. Bellagio and Venetian I barely felt like I had an edge at the 2/5 games and I consider myself a pretty good live cash player... but it was during the series and these rooms were filled with sickos. Caesar's 1/3 game has some grinders but also lots of very bad players.
-
+1 on Caesars but the $2/5 game is absolutely horrible, tight, reg invested, tilting, and any other negative poker term. I've only played $2/5 there twice but I've never heard a good thing about it otherwise.

During the series you can table select pretty well and catch some soft $2/5 games at the Wynn or Aria because all of the rich foreigners are on holiday.
I've heard good things about Ballys and Harrahs $1/2. Really it's only $1/2 but like iamthedeck said I've played on some tough $1/2 tables at the V. It seems like a lot of the prior online grinders that moved out to vegas after black friday (there are hundreds) are grinding away low stakes (high for online) at the the Venetian and nicer rooms -
$500 max and 99% of the time someone else has more than that so the full buyin makes for some fun and beatable poker

Yeah the Wynn is still soft even after the Series. I played there a few times in November and it was simple, predictable poker. The $2/5 game changed to a reg-infested game with just a few holes. They also have fresh squeezed orange juice (I think the V and Aria do too) -
I went to the Bellagio for my first 1/2 session. It was around 10am after a redeye flight and 2 hours of sleep so I was not at the top of my game. I dropped 2 buyins to some fish there. I had 2 people from London at my table who hadn't slept and were literally trying to donate their $. Had my aces cracked 4th hand of the session, another guy made a horrible shove on my large c-bet in a 3bet pot with 55 into a Q99 2 spade board where I had AK spades. There were a few regs that knew what was going on but also a lot of whales with platnium and higher cards just tossing money around.

Bally's was a great place to play, that is where I played the rest of my sessions. Such major fish there and a lot of people have no clue what they are doing. It also helps they do a $300 max buyin for the 1/2 game. I didn't see many "regs" there at all, just mostly older folks looking to throw around some money.
Ended up breaking even overall even after running horribly (lost a set over set at Balllys for a $600 pot). -
nice report.
i hear MGM has a super soft game too -
I've played that 1-3$ game at Caesars and Ive beat it the 2 out of 3 times I've played but I'll also add that while leaving ahead it was definatly a tougher game than MGM or even Bellagio.

Edited By: gjallen1975 Dec 13th, 2011 at 02:32 PMdon't forget the string bet on air. put 5 chips in, then grab four 5 chips and throw them in. the dealer or other players will disallow the string bet, and the player will fold to the 5 dollar bet, thinking you wanted to bet 25....Originally Posted by TXpoker30
