  1. North Carolina Closes In On Las Vegas Style Gambling

A new gambling compact with the Cherokee Indian tribe in North Carolina could bring poker and other Las Vegas-style gaming to the state’s only casino.

Under the proposed 30-year agreement, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino would gain exclusive rights to offer the new table games in exchange for 4 percent of their revenue which would go to the state education department. That percentage will eventually be raised to 8 percent as the years progress.

Gov. Bev Perdue has spent the last two months pushing for the new compact, much to the dismay of the state’s Republican legislative leaders who have said that the proposal may enable problem gambling.

  4. "Could bring poker and other Las Vegas style gaming to the state's only casino"
Not sure I understand this statement since Harrah's already has a poker room. Last time I was there(December), they had about 4 tables going(3 1/2nl, 1 LHE). The room is about the same size as Harrah's Tunica but the tables are all the electronic ProPlayer tables. There is ususally just 1 or 2 floormen keeping the game running smoothly. They also run small tournaments on weekends.
Buyin is 100-500 for the 1/2nl and has to be loaded on your TR card before playing. They are also not a dry county anymore, only reason I started going. Alcohol is not free but is reasonably priced and you can use TR credits to pay for it.
Overall; nice room, nice people, juicy games, great food at buffet, new hotel rooms, a lot more to do than just gambling, and also a little closer than Jacksonville's shithole!
  5. Las Vegas style gaming = real poker = cards + chips + a poker table + a dealer

    You really didn't know that?

  6. Tbh, no...Thought poker just meant live poker. Even though there are a couple drawbacks, I don't mind the ProPlayer tables. Of course you have no chips to shuffle, no dealer to force action a little quicker, and you can't pick up on the little tendencies of how the players put their chips into a pot. On the other hand, no tips to the dealer(saves you prob 40$+/session) and it also has all the info on the pot size, chip counts, hh's, player stats, and table stats. You have to do none of this yourself.
I wouldn't mind either way though tbh, love the whole dynamic of live cards, chips, dealer, etc also.
  7. A little additional info:

Gov. Perdue has signed the compact with the tribe.

In addition to the expansion of Class III games in the agreement, it could include removal of the one-casino limit.

State lawmakers must still vote to amend state law to allow the live games, and the federal government must also agree.

I saw these up in Council Bluffs, IA. a couple years ago at either the Harrahs, or Ameristar. It's a pretty sad site IMO. I'd rather play penny slots with the blue hairs.
