  1. Harrah's Cherokee Casino announced Friday that the federal government gave final approval North Carolina's new gambling compact.

The 30-year agreement, approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior, allows the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to offer Las Vegas-style games with live dealers and add two new casinos on tribal lands in western North Carolina.

The casino is expected to start offering the new live games -- including black jack, roulette and craps, by mid-August with more games to follow.

  2. I know, that's super exciting. I wrote about it a few days back on our North Carolina Local page here on PocketFives. This should allow regular playing cards to be used, as opposed to very unnatural video screens, and supposedly create about 400 jobs, which I am sure is quite appealing to the Cherokees and U.S. Government.

  3. It's a bit of a drive from Raleigh, but I might end up out that way a few times a year if I'm in the mountains for some reason.
  4. Live poker isn't supposed to be around til the end of the year (or later)

Should be around by the WSOP Circuit event next April
