and 4 of his buddies with hand guns. They hit a friends home game at 10:30 PM. They busted in and pistol whipped one guy and made off with a whopping 2 grand, if that much. This is a game that is basically just a bunch of buddies playing cards, watching football, and drinking cold beers. After the guys left my buddies called the police to report the incident. They did not report it because the money was stolen, they reported it because a young kid was running around with an AK-47. My boy called up to the police station today because they had all the players cell-phones, They took the phones because the guys had collected them when they robbed the place and dumped over the fence into the neighbors yard. Anyway's when my buddy talks to the officer, they told him they are not giving the phones back yet because the D.A. is thinking about pressing charges against the player's. He said the player's calling, was like a crack dealer getting robbed, and then calling the police to get their crack back.

isn't poker legal as long as there's no 'rake' being taken (or equivalent)? or is GA messed up?
-
It is still a misdemeanor to play for real money. They want to go after the home owner for running an illegal gambling operation.
-
that's why you never give police any information voluntarily, they are out to screw you over. No way you were gonna get the money back anyways.

IMO, this is awesome for the poker 'cause'; unfortunately sucks for the homeowner.

if they get the homeowner then this story can open up alot of public sentiment from the police force/lawmakers basically equating poker to AK-47 toting. hopefully plenty of LOLs at these laws/interpretations of laws ensue and they realize how ridiculous it is.
sounded like it was never about the money; they players wanted the dude with the AK off the street-you know, for the children, etc -
point taken but if it wasn't about the money why did they say they were playing poker? they could of just said they were drinking and some people came in and stole their wallets and phones. Problem solved.

This is just a common incident of people thinking police are actually trying to protect good people and have common sense, well as you can see from the result of this incidence and many others that that isn't the case at all. -
Did you read the OP? It had nothing to do with the money, a damn kid is running around with an automatic machine gun.

Not a whole lot of help to an investigation if you lie about everything that happened. If that is the case why call at all? DUCYOriginally Posted by Tourney

yeah, you have a good point as well. but because they did say they were playing this gives poker a chance to point out how ridiculous the laws are.
on a side note, I got a urinating in public ticket in eau claire about 13 years ago. . .having problems with cops all over! -
This seems to be a fairly common occurence in EC lol

no i do not see why and clearly your not the brightest guy. You said the purpose was to tell the police that a kid is running around with an AK-47, so the reason being you couldn't tell them he broke into the house while you were having a party and stole your wallets/phones is? Exactly there is no reason you couldn't just not mention the poker playing. DUCY?

yea the laws are definitely insanely stupid, but the average person doesn't give two shits about their freedoms in this country and nothing will change until they do. -
come on now... poker is way harder to quit than crack
-
loose aggressive player stealing w/AK is pretty standard. anyway...good line to take right here....less the DOJ:

also, how is it the cop is comparing the cell phones to crack, its the missing cards they're addicted too...... stupid cops! -
I wonder if the guy who robbed the place went home that night and had a good meal and said. " Didn't have to use the AK today.... I got to say, today was a good day "
-
Were the guys masked? I figure if its just a casual home game, atleast one of the players had to of recognized one of the five robbers no? Kind of weird for word to travel far and quickly over just a 2k game.
