  1. Hi p5s Community,

I've been apart of the p5s community for a few years and have been posting here and there in different threads.

A little history about me, I’ve been playing poker, mostly home games and online since I was 16 (now I’m 24). When I turned 18, I played online on pokerstars and FTP ~20-30 hours a week. I profited mildly throughout the years that online poker was still around with the biggest score being a little over $3,000.

Anyways, getting to the point now. After Black Friday hit, I was playing here and there in live cash games at the casino, but I always considered myself a tournament player. This month was the first month that I’ve had even over 10 hours of live play.

I’ve been keeping track of my sessions for August, and here it is so far.

    August 5 – WPT POPC Event #5 (40th/290 top 27 paid) – $200 + $100 bounty + $30 fee – Received 3 bounties, only lost $15 because my brother was staking me for half – (-$15)
    August 9 – Cash 2 hours – ($117)
    August 11 – Cash 2 hours – ($47)
    August 12 – Cash 2 hours – ($31)
    August 14 – Daily Double Stack -- $120 (knocked out in 3.5 hours, board wasn't updated, 250 runners) – (-$120)
    August 16 – Cash 1.5 hours – ($147)
    August 17 – Cash 1 hour – ($10)
    August 19 – Cash 3 hours – ($9)
    August 20 – Cash 1 hour – ($465)

    Total August Winnings – ($691)
Total August Cash Winnings – ($826)
Total August Cash Hours Played - 12.5 Hours
Total August Tournament Winnings – (-$135)
    August Tournament Stats – (0/2)

So I haven’t lost money in cash games yet, even though there were some rollercoaster rides. I typically play 1/2 NLHE and buy-in for $200 (min $60, max $300).

My goal is to profit about $5,000 by the end of this year and hit at least one 4 figure score in a tournament. I will be including my August play time, so that means a $5,000 profit within a 5 month period, averaging at $1,000/month. I am almost at my quota for this month so that’s fantastic.

The reason why my goal is so low is because I can’t play poker that often because I have a full-time job, I have a startup business that I'm working on and I have a girlfriend who I enjoy spending time with.

However, in September, Parx is having a freeroll promotion for October where players have to put in 60 hours + in order to be registered in the freeroll. The freeroll is a $50,000 guaranteed.

If you put in 60 hours+ you receive 10,000 starting chips, 80 hours+ 12,000 starting chips, and 100 hours+ 15,000 starting chips. The last tournament had around 400 players and top 100 get paid, min cash is $150 and first is $10,000 or somewhere around that range.

I was also considering writing a blog about my sessions, any hand histories that were interesting, player reactions, etc. I’m not sure about the rules about pocketfives on advertising a blog site on their forums. If someone could let me know if this is all right to do, that would be great.

If anyone has any questions relating to my history, goals, etc. don’t hesitate to post. Thanks!

    Regards,
    Tru

  2. Any reason for wanting 5k by end of year or just random?

    Good luck!

  3. good luck man, i imagine if you play enough hours the $5k profit in purely cash games should be achievable and if you get some run good in the live mtts you'll probably smash that figure

  4. Hey guys, thanks for the replies, the reason I say $5,000 is because it's only 5 months and I'm playing recreationally, not professionally. I'm hoping to get a good % of my winnings from next month's grind, playing at least 60 hours for the freeroll in October. I didn't want to overestimate on my goal and not be able to obtain it. I'm hoping that once I obtain it, hopefully sooner than later, that I can set up another goal. I'll be providing updates of my sessions, hopefully they will be longer than 1-3 hours soon enough. I'm looking forward to seeing my progress through this experience.

    Stay tuned!

  5. Putting it on a poker forum will give you extra incentive and discipline, so best of luck man you can do it.
  6. Thanks alun, I'm definitely going to be trying hard to stick with my goal!

I haven't played any poker since I posted this up, it's been extremely busy. I might put in a few hours tomorrow, but I have to travel to my hometown this weekend to see family. I'll probably play in the bounty daily on Monday, $105+$25 bounty+$20 fee ($150). If anyone on p5s is going to play in it, definitely try to find me and give me a holla.

I'll update about my Saturday session and tournament again on Monday night or Tuesday morning depending on how well I do in the daily. I'm hoping to take it down so that I can re-evaluate my goal, first place is around ~$2,500-$3,000 but they usually chop it 3-7 ways (ridiculous at 7 I know), so probably around $1,200-$2,000 max. Wish me luck!

  7. Hey everyone, here is a quick update from the week.

I haven’t really been playing much poker since my original post, but I have some good news. On Sunday, August 26th, I profited $85 playing cash for about 2 hours. I bought in for 200 and was down to my last 60 chasing draws and never hitting, and eventually my luck started changing and I started running the table over with flushes and straights. Nothing to note about that night though.

I played in the $150 Monday Night Green Chip Bounty at Parx yesterday night, Monday, August 27th. There were 94 runners from what I remember. Starting chip stack was 10,000.

Blinds were at 400/800 ante and I was MP, just got seat changed to this table recently and this was the last hand of the break, I see QQ, I raise to 3,000, high-jack repops allin for 19k. I have 18.7k and I instacall and he flips over KK. I say "everytime…" and then I flop Q Q 4. blanks on turn and river, and he goes apeshit and says that I shouldn’t be whining. I kinda just shrug it off and chip up to over 37k, unfortunately I didn’t take his bounty, he still had about 300 chips left…

That was probably the most memorable hand of the night, there were a few other times where I went allin w/88 vs A5 and won it with 12 left and that was my first bounty of the tournament. The structure towards the bubble is pretty ridiculous, as most people have less than 15BB left, so it ends up being a shovefest… Another all-in I had 1010 vs A8 and won it, so I had a pretty decent chipstack on the bubble. Eventually we were at the Final Table and I think I was at 4th in chips. Everyone decided to chop it up 9 ways even for $1,065, and we each tipped the dealers $40. Basically, the 9 of us received 3rd place money finishes, which is definitely worth it! This was my first live tournament cash and I’m pretty proud of it, profiting for $925 after the tip and the buy-in was taken out.

So my August projections have been better than expected, $701 over my original goal for the month, which is great! Only $3,299 to go! I’m not going to be playing until Saturday to start off my 60 hour month for the freeroll!

    Total August Winnings – ($1701)
Total August Cash Winnings – ($911)
Total August Cash Hours Played - 14.5 Hours
Total August Tournament Winnings – ($790)
    August Tournament Stats – (1/3)

  8. Haha 9 way choppaments, Up to you thought whether its worth it or not i dont think id ever chop 9 handed, gotta think how scared these guys are to ladder it would be pretty awesome running the table over

  9. Yeah that's true, but I knew 3 of the guys at the FT, I actually go to the gym with them everyday, so it was kind of funny that we all made it. I did'nt want to be the db that said no to a chop, and everyone would hate me or focus on taking me out or something along those lines. It was only 5 hours in the tournament, from 7-12, so I'm happy with it.
