Brandon Adams had an interview on cardplayer recently where he said the model for Live Poker Professionals is quickly dying out. As a result of variance, taxes, living and travel expenses and most importantly RAKE, its his opinion that traveling for live poker is becoming increasingly more difficult.
Is the the truth? Does everyone agree that live poker has become too hard too beat or is developing towards that end? I understand live poker is incredibly beatable when talking about level of play, but the question is whether or not it is too expensive to overcome the benefit of traveling the live circuit.
And lastly, if this is the case, is there anything that we can do as poker players and essentially as customers of the venues that put on these poker series, cant we begin to take more action and demand that the higher and higher rakes be controlled. Dont we control the demand for poker tournaments? Or are we powerless towards the apparent monopoly that poker tournaments have created? -
I'm afraid it might be this. Unfortunately, I think casino's may be too thick headed to realize they would be losing players due to high rake, and therefore keep the rake high to make the max off the dwindling player field. Live tournaments have taken a hit other than the WSOP since the recession and I don't think it would have crossed the minds of tournament directors to lower rake, maybe lower buy in but probably same % of rake.
