hi guys
just wanted to know if this is a local phenomen or if this is standart everywhere in live cashgames. and if it is, any idea why?
standart openraises in my local casinos are:
blinds 1/2 at least 12, but usually 16-20
blinds 5/5 at least 20, usually 25-35
blinds 5/10 at least 50
i got used to it but i really cant see why there is this difference to what i know from the net. -
Pre flop raising is a part of game texture I've found. A regular pfr becomes established in a game over time and is determined by frequency. The more a particular sized raise is used then the more it gets used. Once the norm for a game has been established it is extremely difficult for that norm to decrease unless a game breaks up or has a mass exodus of players. The reason for that is because any raise that is less than the norm is viewed like a straddle (not really a raise).
It looks to me like those games you mention have an abundance of both aggressive and loose players. -
5xs bb is standard live. You can expect at a minimum of 3 callers. I normally play 1-2 or 2-5 so you can guarantee pre in a2-5 game you will have 100 pre. so if you can get 4 monsters in one session of say 8 hours and c bet flop you should make 400 considering you dont lose any other pots which i know is not the case. All I am saying that if you win majority of your raised hands post flop you will make money. I wish poker was that simple though.

Yeah, it's pretty much the norm. It's hilarious how often you'll see 5 players to a flop for 12 each and the other 4 fold when you bet 30-40 too. Live 1/2 is the easiest game ever.

ITS HILARIOUS HOW BAD most live players are , and they have this hatred for the so called online player..............their defense is play a real game and learn how too face your opponent....OR THE GUY THAT SAYS I PLAY LIVE BETTER!!!????........than next thing u know 5 limpers and they all call the raiser without a wink...because online players just go all in and that s all they know HAHAHAHAHAHA ok pencil slug ...........SHIP IT

I've seen just as many online donks playing live as the regular donks. In general the 1/2 game is full of donks. The standard raise is about 5x. The reason being 10 is an easy raise, 2 red chips. I think 1/2 is one of the worst games around for playing poker. However it's a very easy ABC concept to grind them. Don't get to fancy and don't C-bet like you do online and you'll do fine. C bets dont accomplish anything in 1/2 poker.

c-bets don't accomplish anything in 1-2 poker? so just check and hope for the best obv................i will agree that c-bet's in cash games should be less than in mtt action, but to just not c-bet sounds ludicrous

who wants to play on a table full of nits. Be thankful

The games locally seem to have two distinct preflop betting modes. Some hands will have 5-8 limpers and the other hands someone will raise to $25 or $27 and get 4-5 calls from players that previously limped for $2. I saw this alot one night this past week. There were more $25-$27 raises than $8-$10 raises. And the $27 usually got 3-5 calls.

Makes for some huge pots but you really have to have the goods cause its no fold em hold em.
Last hand I played : Card dead all nite and down to $70 ready to go home. Im BB with AxQx . Several limpers and then the SB makes it $15. I think screw it Im going home anyway and ship the $70. Two limpers and the SB call. One of the limpers called with 9s6s (they're soooted!) and I get sent home by pocket Jacks. Big pots if you can catch a card now and then. -
indeed wild tables are actually the most profitable, i never forget this quirky, strange, degen , attorney lookn dude, walks in sits down, 1-2 nl 1k max buy in, he says i have 8k and im down 12k from the other place(wherever tht was)im thinkn ok,he buys 1k and 1st hand he raises too like80, al the limpers fold, next hand pretty much same thing, than u get the goofs tht still try too limp and this dude was like 160 raise on the pre with 2 buck limpers i'm lol,so when i got a hand i raised into him (like 25) he would reraise crazy amount back like 290 or smthn so i folded and i watched his betting patterns (plus he started showing cards)this guy was so crazy tht one time a player accidentally showed his cards and the guy puts him all in with like 5 high even though he was behind, long story short i figurd out real quick his strong hands he raised less and his really weak ones were the wild bets ,i pilfered like 2500 off the guy and the rest went too some dude tht was gttn aa ,kk etc. so when dude gets up too leave(said he was done) im like wel,l im done, tht fkr went too the atm and went back and got the last seat and i couldnt get back in cuz 1 seat was taken, fml they said they nvr seen him in there before too...oh well it was fun -
Man that sounds like a blast. I do not know what it is but I can't find people like this and when I do they always seem to bust me with a ridiculous hand after I get it all in ahead (usually way ahead).
