This guy was at my table on day 4. Got up to like 800k in chips and just abruptly got up from the table and said he would be back at the end of the night to bag up. We all looked at him confused and thought he was joking. Then he said something about he and his wife observing the Sabbath and bounced. Craziest thing I have ever seen in poker.

wat a noob

What were you all saying at the table after he left? Did anyone from the WSOP come over and explain why someone was getting blinded out?

Or ya, somekind of dope hiccup..they happen, day 4 or 5 is a involuntary sleep day if you been up the previous days..No matter how good or plentifull the stash, day 4, day 5 you go down...
The sabbath parts funny...man's idea of a day, and a calendar, has changed a tad over the last 1000 years..theres no way he can know if it was the sabath or not...people really go by the calendar they buy at walmart? even funnier -
clearly optimal poker was not his primary concern, however those people who play poker seriously rely on people who don't care (or even consider) optimal play... stop teaching at the table (my biggest live pet peeve? yep.)
It really comes down to its his money and perhaps he wanted to play the ME because he had seen it on TV and was a "bucket list" thing. Say what you want among friends but don't give him shit publicly, these are the guys that pay for Phil Ivey's Bentley, it's entertainment for him and I'd like to have a Bentley one day too. -
It would suck to be his SB...everyone shootin for his BB every orbit, hoping everyone folds to you, but never do..

As a follow up to this story, CardPlayer tracked Nash down. According to the news outlet, "Based on the tournament’s schedule, Nash was confident he could make the money before having to take a day off. However, he was hoping that his stack would still be around after Saturday’s sundown." CardPlayer added, "When asked what he would say to those in the poker world who might criticize his decision, Nash said he 'would always tell someone to seek the lord.'"

Poker is dead

Pretty much agree that it's his prerogative to use his equity as he sees fit. Does seem a bit absurd to enter the event in the first place if you know this conflict could arise. If this was a tenet of his faith, he probably could have gone to his clergy and sought an exemption, maybe with agreement to make it up in the future. This happens with Muslim athletes during Ramadan for instance. But this sounds more like a self-imposed practice so I guess it's up to him (or his wife) and they chose what they chose. I guess we have to remember that there are things in life more important than money or competition.
(Though I'm pretty incredulous that non-denominational Jesus is one of them) -
lol god.

So his wife's religion was OK with gambling, but not breaking the sabbath?
Hmmm.. -
he should have been open-shoving and showing a bunch right before 8:00P on friday, maybe get a lucky double/triple-up so he could survive blinding off for 24 hr.

Best example of being pu$$y whipped.

This is really an odd story imo. The guy should of just played the mtt, he is a man who should be able to make his own decision without his wife. Why even enter the main event if you know this could come up? I think in this case the wife could be understanding for her husband to play in the main event. It must suck for that guy. Playing the main event is a blessing in its self and to me this guy wasted his shot. There are a lot of players like my self who would love a chance to play in a mtt like that.

I remember a story from years ago about a guy who entered a wcoop event knowing that he had to go to work in the morning. He ended up going super deep. His boss was looking for him and firing him while he was winning 400k or something silly. Anybody rem that thread?

no, but if you find it post a link. That sounds pretty good.

Meh, I don't see the big deal. If he was a professional player then it would be a big deal. He's a recreational player and I'm sure he had fun. Mission accomplished.
-
i wonder equity wise what he was worth at the time he left?

By all means, I dont have a problem with it. People can do whatever they feel like with their own money. I just think its ridic stupid....
