I don't think you quite understand my situation, I don't have a bank roll, I had $125 and I need to win money now. I am playing 3/6 limit Hold em, not pot limit, the max bet is $6 and $12 raises after the turn, with 4 bets being the maximum. I realize that the casino is taking over $150 an hour off the table, however there is still approximately$700 in play on a full table. In my most recent session I profited $135, that's pretty good in one session, and it is possible to win. I realize that the conditions that I play under are not optimum, but how many of us live under ideal conditions? I am playing because I need money now and can't afford to wait. The comments and suggestions are appreciated.

False, you just blow them off because you know better because you have cashed out $500 on Cake and had winning sessions of $500 and $300 before.

Here's a shocker: Even the worst players in the world win once in awhile. But they lose more than they win in the long run. You really don't think that could possibly be you? And if you don't think that, this is the exact reason poker is awesome, because people will keep blaming their poor results on luck and not their lack of skill. -

WRONG: I play 3/6 and 4/8 limit there are no NLH in my state I make money on a regular basis and have studied low limit specifically and the move up answers means a lot of people do not understand the strategy differences needed in low limit grinder fish ponds.
Fluctuations and frustrations are the norm and learning to cope and maintain focus is a skill needed. My earn rate is at 9.74 per hour in 3/6 not getting rich but steady income for monthly and yearly fun -
Yes stop limping be assertive and be confident in your hands. Play way less out of position play much stronger in position and open up your middle hand ranges with all the extra traffic you are getting you have to change your overall range. Big pairs AA KK especially out of positon with 3 plus callers even to a raise play like middle pair you probably need a set.
But middle suited cards and big suited connectors love the company so in position I even will pop and 2 bet down around 89s and up. I also limp ALOT OF suited aces with 4 or more limpers remember you are playing your suit not your ace unless you flop two pair or better right away. BB I call a lot of raised pots with any two suited cards Ten or higher and see.
I could go on but will wait for your feed back
I make money in low limit and study it specifically -
IF you need money now you are in the wrong area for anything poker is and never will be a money now issue not for you or anybody at any level. THE NUMBER ONE SKILL FOR LOW LIMIT FISHING IS PATIENCE. THEY WILL PAY YOU OFF OVER AND OVER AGAIN BUT YOU CAN NOT RUSH IT.

This book and low limit holdem by Lee Jones changed my entire approach to LOW LIMIT games and I am profitable now. NO I AM NOT QUITTING MY DAY JOB BUT NOW I AVERAGE 800 TO 1,000 A MONTH IN EXTRA INCOME FOR HOME USE AND BANKROLL STABILITY. YES I FEED THE FISH REGULARLY AND HAVE COME TO EXPECT IT AND APPRECIATE IT.

Learn pot odds. You are folding too much preflop and postflop (although preflop is less of a leak until you learn poker better), and not raising and betting enough. Basically the perfect recipe for being the least likely to ever be able to book a win. When you have the best hand, make them pay to draw out on you, don't just assume it is a forgone conclusion you are going to lose by the river if you don't flop a set.
The only real advice I can give you that may actually give you a chance to not be godawful at this game is read this book (its on limit hold'em):

I have not been current in my posts, I have not been enjoying my recent run, it has been tough. I got a nice play in early August with a nice solid $135 win, bluffed a $70 pot with 9 high, paid some bills went back 4 days later and lost $80. Kind of sucks had I waited one more day I could have had a full buy in for the NL game but I was a little impatient. I have been having trouble at home, My wife has been sick and I haven't been able to get out of the house to go to the casino. I put $100 on cake poker, gone and I am not to happy with that. I have subsequently lost about $150 since and have been trying different games to build the money buy I have been losing any and every game that they have at the lower level buy ins. I was playing $0,25/$0.50 and I was able to build from $60 to $120 and I was feeling pretty good I got a little loose and chased an open ended straight draw flop 8 s 10s 4h and I had 6789 the turn was 4c and I should have folded the guy had AQs and 10c 7c and ace on the river won him a nice $40 pot. He bet aggressively with a flush draw the whole way. I should have folded when the board paired but I tried to chase him down. I put him on aces because the jack asses in those games play aces and kings like they were the nuts. In omaha there are too many drawing hands that big pairs could lose to and people bet those hand to aggressively pre flop in omaha. In hold em that is what you look for but omaha is a completely different game. I was watching a $2/$4 game min buy in $80 max $400 and there was a $1,200 pot after the flop someone had pocket aces with K6h someone had pocket Queens with 10 7 off and the someone else had pocket jacks and like 54 or something like that and the flop was Jh 9d 4s these people were all in with aces and queens in an omaha game, that seems crazy to me. The turn was 5h and river 10s. Set of Jacks held up but that is a lot of draws to fade even with a set, I can understand putting all your money in with a set, but with an over pair that is just wishful thinking. Someone won a $1,200 pot, wow what an action game, I'm thinking I should move up in limits. Jack asses can't fold over pairs in that game and I'm still losing.

I have been trying to buy in for $40 here and there on cake poker and have been playing some heads up tournaments from anywhere from $1 to $17 and some $1 and $2 sit and go's. I had about $35 and I was playing $10 heads up PL omaha and I had a set of jacks a second heart came on the turn and a third heart on the river. We were all in on the turn and the guy turns over 4 hearts and rivers a flush. I thought that was tough to lose, you are not supposed to play 4 of the same suit. Heads up for $17 I flopped a set of fives and the flop was 572 I make a small bet and the guy raises pot and I go all in and he shows Q768 turn card was a Queen river 4. Another tough loss, I was playing for $5 and I had 2,700 to 300 and lost, tough to get into but that sucks.

Live low blind limit games (3/6 & 4/8), especially with low buy in limits, are likely to be very high variance. You'll see wide shallow pots almost every hand so take note & play and play your hands that need multi-way action, suited As & middle connectors etc. Raises pre-flop will only increase your variance as they will rarely narrow the pot, on the other hand you'll find they don't narrow the pot much when you hit the flop hard.
I find in the local area here the lower NL games have a better structure than the lower limit games, the best ones here at the lower levels are 1/1-$100 & 2/2-$200. -
So I glad to say that I decided, reluctantly to go to the casino on Friday 9-21-12 and I bought in with $80, just about all the money that I had, took almost a month to save. Not feeling really confident and feeling like I had already failed I bought in and won my first hand Ac Qs won a nice $25 pot and seriously considered getting off the table right then and there. about 7 hands later pocket Queens, I raise flop 7 8 9 different suits, and you know where this is going I call a three dollar bet with 4 way action turn card 6d and there is no way I can stay in this hand. Wouldn't you know it Queen of spades on the river but the guy to my left had a 10 high straight, lost half my winnings but I'm still ahead.
I pick up pocket sevens second to act and happily raise, one guy re raises to put himself all in, he was short stacked, in a $3/$6 it's not cool to be all in. 4 way action and the flop is 8c 6d 2h I lead out and bet and I actually think that my hand might be good. Turn card is 9d and I like my hand a little better now I lead out for $6 with 2 callers and the river 5s, nice one the guy to my left who was all in had a set of eights and the lady next to him had pocket Kings, the dealer said I was lucky and I was thankful to win close to an $80 pot.
I pick up pocket tens and raise it with 4 callers the flop Jh Js 5h and I lead into 4 way action and bet, two folds and one call. Turn card 10s, nice, I bet and one call. River card 7s and I bet and the guy raises, I think for about12 seconds and re raise and the guy calls and he turns over pocket aces and thanks me, he won $100 for getting aces cracked, and that was a nice $80 pot.
That was just a couple of hands from a very productive session in which I better than tripled up and walked out of the casino with $271. Not bad for being scared and conservative and debating on whether or not to play. Feels nice to get back in the winning side of things again. -
I've pretty down lately, really doubting my abilities and more than somewhat scared to play, having almost no money or the bare minimum to play, limited resources and finding it hard to get the free time to get to the casino. So what I tried doing was getting a roll going on cake poker. I thought that I would be able to get something good going. I ended up losing close to $200 and after a rough go at the casino it was looking really bad.
So instead of losing my money on cake for the minimum buy in and getting rolled in the single table $1 sit and go's and the $2 heads up tournaments, I decided to save my money for the month of September.
I've been playing on Carbon poker, a buddy of mine said that they had this thing called fun steps, if you win a series of 3 single table sit and go's, you win $1. I thought that was pretty good for having no money. I had a tough time doing that, but I ended up playing in one of their 5 daily free rolls and I placed 2nd out of 1,491 people and I won $14 and a ticket to an $11 satelite. I thought that was pretty good for free poker. The sad thing is that I went broke trying to play in the single table $1 sit and go's, a friend said that if you can't beat half the table, you are probably not good enough, I felt like I was on the table with a bunch of low limit hustlers. I felt pretty bad for losing all that free money, and I was even losing the $0.11 sit and go's, and looking for answers. So I played my $11 satelite and got 3rd place and won $10 and came just shy of winning a seat in a $109 buy in tournament with cash on the side. Sadly, I lost the $10 too and decided to try and work on the fun steps. After about a months time, I finally won a dollar. I'm deciding to save it instead of going for the $0.11 sit and go's because I really want to try and build it.
Luckily I had a good day at the casino, to put some cash in my pocket and some confidence in my game. Carbon poker looks like a pretty good site. -
0% chance this is real

Not sure if OP is a level or retarded.

there has to be some gems in here though... can i get some highlights (cliffs somehow seems like the wrong word here...cliffs sound....useful...) -
Sorry not trying to be rude but you really can't be serious in this thread. You are either leveling the piss out of us or your totally delusional and in denial.

No BS here, I know a lot of people that like to embellish stories to make themselves feel more important, but if I was making this up I could come up with a better story than this. This is real life and my personal account of the events thereof and one thing I don't do is sugar coat. There is no glamour in making up stories about $3/$6 hold em. What is so hard to believe about winning a dollar on Carbon Poker? I don't have the need to stretch the truth to make myself feel better, I am a real person playing real poker, winning and losing real money, In real life situations. It's not that hard to believe, I don't know why people think that it is impossible to win at $3/$6, It's not impossible. My poker stories are real, truthful and accurate and I am trying to keep the ball rolling. If I was going to lie I would say that I am going to Las Vegas and trying to build a bank roll to play in the World Series of Poker, There is no point in lying about small cash games, I am not doing this for attention, it is a real life depiction of events, sort of like a journal. I am thinking about making my way to the casino today.
-
So I guess some think that I am Bull S******* my way through some threads but this is like my journal from my real life poker stories, and by the way it's possible to win money in the $3/$6 game. Another account of my real life story is that Cake Poker is no longer no longer offering services to players in my region, so something happened with that. I thought that it might have been suspect, all the losses that I recently had, even though I cashed out for $500 11 months earlier.
I went to the Casino on Monday September 24, 2012 and had a very good session. I bought in for $100 and picked up A Q off suit and flopped and ace and won about a $30 pot against a guy who had ace jack and it felt good to win a pot with a nice ace instead of getting sucked out on by some one with a worse kicker, that happens a lot.
So I'm in early position and I get 98 of spades, I like that hand and it reminds me of rounders and it's a fun hand to play, 4 way action and the flop is 5d 7h 4s, I like the texture of the flop so I call the big blind $3 bet with another caller behind and one fold. Turn card 6d, big blind bets $6 and instead of luring the guy behind into the pot I raise it to $12 and one fold and big blind calls. River 8s, big blind checks and calls my $6 bet and I win a nice $40 pot
I get pocket 4's in early position and 4 callers behind, flop is Kd Jh 5d, I lead out and bet and I get 2 callers and one fold. Turn card Kh and I bet again and 2 callers 6s and I lead out again, semi bluffing to represent trips and I get 2 callers, one flips over J 10 off suit and the other has A J. People play flush and straight draws like they were made hands so I thought I could have gotten them to fold. Another thing, the other guys at the table will think I am a playing weak hands and later they will call with a more marginal hand than they ordinarily would have, especially if they think I am barreling away with only a small pair.
Kind of steamed I get Ace nine and I am 3rd to act, two other callers and the flop is Qs 9c 7h, I check and one bet one call and I call. Turn card Jc I check and one bet one call and I call. River card 9d and I bet and two calls and I win like a $40 pot.
So I have about $160 and I get KJ of clubs in first position, I raise it to $6 with 6 way action, The flop 10h 9s 7d I check one bet 3 calls one fold and I call. Turn card 10d I check one bet 2 calls one fold and I call. River 8d I check and one bet 2 folds and I reluctantly call, the guy turns over K Q off suit and I show him the straight. Nice $80 pot and it's just about time to leave, I'm up to about $220.
So I get a couple of racks and I am getting ready to cash out and I get a hand in the big blind, and I am still stacking the last pot someone raised the pot and I get jack 5 and instead of folding I call 3 way action. The flop is Qc Jd 5h I bet and the guy to my left goes all in and the other guy calls. The turn As and I bet and one call and the river is 8d and one guy missed a straight draw and the guy was all in had A 10 off suit So I got almost $250 and I am still racking up racking up the pot.
I'm in the small blind and I pick up two black Kings, nice 4 way action and I raise and the flop is 6s 4c 3c I bet two calls and one fold. Turn 7s I bet and 2 calls river 4s and I bet and 2 calls and I show Kings and two folds and I win $50 pot on the way out the door.
I cashed out slightly over $300 and got a pretty big win for a $3/$6 limit game, feeling a lot better and glad to have played. -
raise every hand see the flop keep raising till river. Impossible to make a living at these stakes. Move to nl asap, Good luck though.
-
I don't know why you wouldn't think that my posts are for real but, I ended up losing some cash on cake poker. I was staying home because my wife needed me to stay close to home to help her. I ended up wasting close to $250 on cake poker and felt real bad about it. I know that a lot of people think that there is no way that they could possibly be in accurate about something when they feel that they are right but, I was just positive that I could roll people on cake poker and it did not work out that way. I got tired of losing money on cake poker and decided to save for the month of September. I could only save $90 and in the time that I was saving I found a site called carbon poker, a very good site for winning money for free. Fun Stepping is pretty cool and I have won a dollar so far. I have also placed second in a HORSE free roll and won $14 and an $11 satelite and I placed third in that and won another $10, not bad for free but all that money is gone and I lost it in the sit and go's. So I am fun stepping while trying to save some money to play and I could only save about $90 and I went to go and play and I had 2 winning sessions in a row. I'll tell you how I did in my next session in my next post.

September 25, 2012 Tuesday and I have $160 to play and am hoping to win some cash. I played bad, I played aggressive with draws and lost, I had Q6 of clubs and raised it and an ace on the flop with one club turn another ace that was a club, I check and the guy bets and I raise and he calls and The river is the seven of diamonds. I lost about $25 on that.
I had Ace ten off suit and flopped an ace and I'm in the pot with an old guy and I'm pretty sure that my kicker is good, five of spades on the river and I bet and he calls and he shows two pair with ace five, too bad for me but at least he didn't raise.
I played Jack two of clubs and flopped a flush, I know I'm not supposed to play it but I was in the bb, any way the dealer had to keep those clubs coming and I lost to the ace high flush.
Some how I got all the way down to $3 and I got ace five of hearts, flopped trips and got back to $9. I picked up Ace Queen off suit and got all my money in pre flop and some one raised out the ace six off suit and ace king on a J 6 5 flop turn 8 and river ace of diamonds, the raiser had pocket kings and the loser had QJ and I got bailed out in a nice $45 the other two people that folded said what they had. That was a pretty big win considering.
I made 2 pair with 92 of clubs, and I also picked up a set of 2's in there to bring myself up to a little over $125. I should of left the game right about then, but I was trying to get some more of my money back. I was waiting for pocket aces, if you get them cracked, the casino gives you $100. Some guy got five pairs of aces in about a six hour session and got them cracked 3 times. By the time I picked up two black aces in the sb every one folded accept the bb and all he had was a pair of 3's and I had about $25 and I got went broke shortly after that. -
Bleh...I don't know. I kinda think this is real but either way I'm pretty bummed for you. Good luck pahdner, hope shit get better for you.

Therivercost: I think I believe all your posts, and this is why I feel some pain for your current struggles. You mentioned earlier you have a wife, but do you have a regular day JOB ? If you have a regular day job with a survival income, then riding the bus to casinos and playing 3-6 limit hold em could be chalked up as nice hobby, and winning or losing won't push you into homelessness or starvation. But if you really NEED income from poker to survive, then you are headed for disaster if you keep riding buses and playing 3-6 limit hold em just to put food on your table. An old adage among experienced poker players is: "Scared money DON'T win." Your posts always detail tiny wins and losses down to dimes and pennies, and this obviously indicates you are constantly playing poker with 'scared money.' I am pulling for you to succeed and I hope your understanding wife doesn't eventually hit the road because she is fed up with your bus riding adventures to the casino and always producing non-stop small gains and losses but never actually paying any bills. You need to GROW your poker bankroll and put yourself in a position where you are NOT playing poker with 'scared money.' I wish you well and I hope you DO eventually succeed as a long term profitable poker player.

Even tho there is a 0% chance OP is real, I will post this anyways in case somebody as ridiculous as OP stumbles in here looking for real advice. This isn't even about poker its about economics. Stop wasting your time playing these bullshit limit live games and dollar sngs online. It's so retarded. Even if you are absolutely crushing these, which your obv not, you would be making something terrible like $2 per hour. Assuming you just made close to minimum wage at your job (we'll use $10/hr as an example) then you would actually be losing $8 per hour just by playing poker instead of working your job. your bank roll would grow 5x faster just by not playing poker and you could save up to at least play live 1/2 and $30 sngs online where you might be able to make the same $10 per hour playing poker.

This is real life and these are real posts, I've had quite a run and I will update on some posts
September 26, 2012
I'll keep these posts short because I want to get caught up
I won $312 after having won $305 earlier in the day and and then having it dwindle away to $25 and then to come back up to over $300 again and some what of an unlikely story but I can't stress the honesty of these posts enough. I am not lying this is for real.
