I'll be heading to downtown St Louis in a few weeks for a 3 week stay. I won't have a car so it looks like Lumiere is the closest. How's the action there?
I'll be playing 1/3, are the games always running? Is there a long list on weekends? I'm used to the Hammond Horseshoe, with 50+ lists on a weekend night.
How's the surrounding area, I'll be staying about a mile away, is walking around safe, or will I need to take a cab? Are cabs available at the casino for the trip home?
If I was looking to go to Harrahs, are there any shuttles? (I'll be staying at the Sheraton)
Any other tips or advice would be appreciated. -
I've only been to Lumiere's a couple times but every time I've gone there's been lots of games running and seats were easy to come by. They do get swamped on the weekends so I suppose there may be a wait there.
As for the games themselves, its probably the softest 1/3 game you're ever going to find.
Its a bit of a walk so while walking should be safe after a night of playing I'd at least cab on my way back. There are usually plenty of cabs waiting outside.
Crime is a bit of a problem a little further west on Washington from Lumiere so be mindful of that if you're headed that way and carrying a lot of cash. I've never had a problem and its generally safe downtown but it is something to be aware of.
I don't think there's a shuttle to Harrahs and its a good 30 minute drive so I wouldn't waste my time since you don't have a car. If you're looking to play at another casino River City is closer. They're owned by the same outfit as Lumiere and also run 1/3.
Other than that I'd just say check out some of the restaurant on and around Washington since they're close to you.
Hope that helps and enjoy your stay! -
Shearton might be part of the shuttle service. When we stayed at the millenium which is about a mile away the lumiere ha d a shuttle service that went around to the different hotels in the area. I would advise cab or shuttle, you would probably be fine but it definitely isn't the best area. The few times I have played at Lumiere I haven't waited longer than 20 minutes for a seat.

There are always cabs parked in front of the hotel.
The game is sick action.
Harrah's has a good room, but you might as well just stay at Lumiere. -
Lumiere IS THE SOFTEST game in town.

I play Harrah's way more often because of the total rewards comps etc and the players fold.
The only downfall imo of Lumiere is the table is so small. Either way....win. I will be down there again next weekend (June 11-12 after I return from Vegas). hit me up if you wanna do lunch or something.
A shuttle is free from every casino to Lumiere so that is good and it runs 24-7. There is always a game running, friday and saturday nights might ahve a 5-6 person wait but that will end within 15 mins and youre in. -
Thanks for the info guys, I won't be there until July, but I may see if anyone wants to meet up.
