I was recently playing in our local home game and two guys were caught cheating. Making a long story short, one guy signaled his buddy letting him know that he folded one of the cards that would have made his opponent a set. There were two Jacks on the board. With this info, the player now called (when it looked like he was about to fold) and won the hand. Two people caught onto it and it got ugly after that.
That brings me to my point. I always watch the shuffle but must admit two guys could be colluding by communicating with each other and I probably wouldn't catch it. If anyone has any tips on things to watch out for I would appreciate it. I've done a little research on the internet but haven't come up with that much. Any help so I can protect myself from cheaters would be greatly appreciated. -
think about all the ways that you would cheat and look for that.
ppl can have code so it sounds like they are talking about anything when they are really talking about the game -
if they bet

32 it means TP
33 is two pair or better
34 is draw
35 is bluff
i guess they could use the last digit of their bet to communicate i dunno -
I see. I'm glad I asked because I definitely never would have thought about the betting numbers. Thanks for both answers. They are good points. Unfortunately, my live play is a bit limited so anything and everything is appreciated.

I use a real hand grenade for a card protector.,so people know if they get out of line it's over for everyone.
Not related ....I steal a lot of blinds -
At my local library they have a book called "how to cheat your friends at poker" . I havent read it but it may be usefull at spotting signs of cheating .

I signal to my buddy when I miss the flop by scratching my ass. Then I bet to build the pot for him. When action reaches him he Jams to pick up the dead moneies. I then snap call and go to sizzler when I flip the nutz on him. Poor dumb shmuck

There's way less cheating in your average game than you (and most people) suspect. If you never think about cheaters again it most likely won't hurt you at all.
This isn't the wild west, not everyone is looking to swindle you...

Went to a new home game a few years ago, kinda hood game. Was up like $120 at $1/2 and I let them know Im leaving in 5 to be curtious. They decide to change dealers and allow the kid who's game it is to start playing. Literally 2 hands later I get KK. Kid who's game it is limp reraises me. Obv Red flag. I call and play super passive. He obv shows Aces when we get to the river I lost like $75 on the hand. Kid makes multiple comments how it's sick that I knew he had aces and yadayada yada. Saying he can't believe that happeened (just bullshitin me) I act polite bounce immedately after and never go back. Was really clear they set me up
Watch for stuff like that -

lol. Letting them know you're leaving in 5 minutes is not being courteous.

idk...doesn't seem clear at all tbh. setting the deck, or base dealing or whatever is not an easy thing to pull off without being super obvious about it...actually setting hands like this up are pretty absurdly rare
youre more likely to get cheated with like 2 people working together or signaling each other or something...and again, still pretty rare...and many people are still awful at poker and don't really know whtat hey're doing...so ya -
Question....I have the right to make sure someone cuts the deck don't I?. My one friend who runs the games and ironically sits to my right quite often, sometimes just taps the deck when I shuffle and I hand it to him to cut. (I'm certain he's not a cheater) It's caught on and occasionally other players won't cut the deck. Regardless of the cheating in this game, I believe the deck should always be cut. Do I have the right to make sure the deck is cut every hand even if I'm not seated near the dealer?

It was just their actions and his response. The way he was trying to discuss the hand afterwards like apologizing and saying how sick that was and he didn't sound sincere at all.
Also, let me reiterate that this was literally the hood. Everyone playing verse me was african american (sorry to stereotype) I was the only white kid there. They were clearly good friends. All that was in the house was a GIANT flat screen TV, couch and a poker table.
They switched dealers directly after I said I was going to leave and this hand comes up 2 hands later. He knew I had kings the whole time it was just so obvious to me.

#1 why is 5 minutes not courteous?
#2 It was more an indication I would be leaving soon so that I could be courteous in general, which seems like the proper thing to do
I agree. At least the dealer should cut the deck after he is done shuffling just so everyone can see it was cutOriginally Posted by BCP

2 ways this could be cheating.
1. The dealer they brought in is a mechanic. Very unlikely as they are few and far between and not likely to be hanging around a $1/$2 home game in "the hood." And also good enough to deal a bad beat better than AA vs. KK. Giving you the nut straight and getting all the money in before the board pairs. etc. And all they got was $75?
2. They brought in a cold deck. Again, they could have dealt a better bad beat than AA vs. KK.
All in all, if they were cheating you, they didn't do a very good job of it. They could have easily taken your entire stack, not just 3/4 of your profit.
So how did you hear of this game anyway? Who pointed you to it? Why would they send you into "the hood" to get cheated or robbed or killed? -
why I only play in casino's, Home games are for fun.

I played it massively passive because It felt like eXactly what it was. I was playing in the library one day and this asian kid saw me playing, told me about his home game and I went to it
