stay at harrahs/ballys and play at borgata. problems solved -
Any hope of finding a plo8 game is at Borgata. Even though I haven't played there consistantly (their chips tilt me to no end, i rifle my chips non stop and borgata chips suck for that). Still the B is by far the best environment for true poker players across the board. Now that I think about it I'm not 100% certain the B has a poker rate. Harrah's is basically next door and definitely does. Less than $40 a night after taxes and fees and has one of the top 3 rooms in the city. I think parx has a great room and Borgata is the only room in AC that is a step up. I think all rooms are profitable tho. I've been with the gf since friday but will be back early tuesday. Hit me up with a pm or something.

Totals are +$4035 @ 102 hrs for June -
130 hrs @ +$4110
The suspense was killing you? So happy for an update? Don't ever keep you waiting this long again? Okay, I knew coming in that I would be doing the majority of the posting ITT. However, there are many people who are strictly readers. But, I do want to have a little more meat and/or depth to my posts, so maybe not daily posts.

So I've only made about $100 in about $25 hours of play over the last week. I had a setback two days ago were I played 14 hrs straight with no breaks and without eating. Wasn't a smart idea. I played well for the first 12 hours but was just having a day where I couldn't find any great situations to win a huge pot. I went back and forth between being up $50 and being down $50. The longer that went on, frustration started to wear on me. I was starving too but I kept putting off getting food because I wanted to end on a high note. Not thinking clearly I started leveling myself and paying people off when obvious draws got there on the river and they would bet full pot. "Why would he bet so much? Everyone can see that the flush got there. Maybe he doesn't have it? Yes, he's trying to bluff me!" The biggest hit was when I turned top two with AQ on the button and got check raised by both of my villians. I ship it against the bigger of the two stacks and both of them had flopped sets. I finally gave in -$260 after losing $300 in the last two hours and ate McDonalds at four in the morning.
The next day at noon I get up to switch hotels. I sit in a game and realize I felt pretty similar to the night before. Still a little tired and haven't eaten yet. Over the next hour or so I convince myself I don't want the same result so I take my $35 profit go have a big meal, go to the room and take a nap. Sleep a few hours, watch a little TV, take a long shower and head back to poker. Not only did I feel great, it showed in my game. I took my time in decisions, I picked my spots, and most importantly I kept up great table talk. Overlooked a lot in live cash games is that your opponents want to have fun. Our table was located in a spot that made it freezing and everyone was complaining. However the banter was so lively and casual that nobody left even though they kept saying they were about too.
As far as what was happening in the game. I had spots were I could have tilted. Had a guy two seats to my left that called down my four barrel bluff with KQ high for most of his stack. Then called my turn bet in a limped pot with deuces unimproved. Had AK another time, raised pre and cbet a AA5 board and got check raised huge. Ship it, I'm against A5 and turn a 5 for a freeroll chop. Had to listen to her (the villian) berate me for getting lucky as though I played it as bad as she did. But I felt great and was able to keep my head and be entertaining while being entertained as egos crumbled around me as things went south for my opponents. As most of them gave up on rebuying and left the table I decided to call it a night when they finally broke our table. Feeling satisfied, not with my $330 profit in four short hours but more so that I kept my head. Funny thing was that at four a.m. this morning the 24 hr McDonalds was closed for cleaning, so I ate Lucky Charms. -

They like me! They really like me!
So there's still interest in this thread and my adventures? I'm still at it. I have had a couple discouraging days at the table but overall my liferoll has not suffered any setbacks. I played the monthy freeroll again yesterday, cashed for $300, lose $250 of that at the $1/$1 (crazy right) and then go play video poker cause I might be tilted and hit a royal for a grand. This life is a motherfucker. Still trying to find a proper balance. Looking into something that would put an extra few thousand in my pocket before months end, outside of poker, not sure if I'm going to say exactly what ITT. Might head out to LA end of August for the rock the bells concert with my best friend. If I do I'm pretty sure I'll end up in Vegas ahead of schedule.
Even with the couple of bad days I'm still crushing dreams at the tables. The regs are telling me they don't like playing against me. I think they're trying to figure me out. I see them analyzing and discussing my play across the table. Some have adjusted and I'm doing my best to adjust to there adjustments cause Bally's is reg infested. Maybe has to do with the bad beat jackpot being over $600,000.
I have more that I want to say, I'll write up the update that I wanted to post in the next day or so with some details and my numbers.
40K or bust YOLO!! -
Leave the video Poker alone. Congrats on the royal. Tilting and playing slot games will only kill u long run.

Edited By: The Destro Jul 12th, 2012 at 10:57 PMI think a big raise on the small 10 4 bet is optimal here. I immediately thought that when you said he bet really small. I play with alot of ppl like this in live games in Branson, MO. They literally tell you their hands. I barely bluff anymore because its so easy to get value when I have top pair or better. But bets like that are so transparent it's worth the big raise to drag a nice pot like that 9 times out of 10. To give you an idea on amount if he bet $15 there id made it $65. You can't make them feel priced in. They will look shocked then shake their head and be like guess you got the nuts or I know I have you beat but take it down. Lol I don't claim to be a beast at poker but very used to that play. Sorry if this was horribly written on my phone at work.Originally Posted by chronkie
Wow sounds like a pretty bad group of donks in your games. Continue to value bet light and stay away from bluffing too frequently.
As for the 99 hand, not too much you can do. You didn't lose much and maybe took from it that you can be more careful in your decisions. Don't be afraid to take a couple extra seconds. Maybe if you're getting that many callers to your button raises you can up the price preflop a little bit especially if people are calling you down with T4dd. Otherwise don't sweat it.
XI think it's good for you to take some time off for friends and gf every now and again. Definitely will help keep your head clear. What's the deal with her anyways, does she support you? Are you trying to stay with her through this? -
I also disagree a bit with the 60 hours not being possibly or very hard. If you go in with the outlook that you are working hard at something you love to build a future for yourself you should be happy to put in 60 hours a week. I work in between 60-80 hours a week in the marketing department of a golf resort and enjoy it. Sure there are times when I wish I had a little more time off but I enjoy what I'm dojng and I know I'm building a future for myself, my wife, and my future family. I have a totally different outlook now that I am moving up and not just in a job. And that's what your doing in poker you are working on moving up with great goals. Keep it up! Again on my phone sorry if theres errors

I read pretty much every poker book that came out between '05 and '09. Gus Hanson's was the last one I sought out when it was released. I've read Matasow, Duke, and Rizen's books since but I don't get much out of books anymore.

As far as video poker, I learned Jacks or Better specifically so I was getting the most EV out of slot dollars I am given when I come down on the bus. Recently, I played more because Showboat has a promotion where once you earn 10 tier credits you get a free buffet. Thats about 35 minutes of 1/2 or 80 max bets at a quarter video poker machine. Showboat has 9/6 machines so I can sit at that for about ten minutes, play optimal strategy, and lose 50 cents on average racking up ten tier credits. There is something very calming about knowing you are making the correct decision every time. I figure its a good idea to play video poker if I'm tired, moody etc and have nothing else to do. I can also use the points. If I'm able to get up to diamond card at the casear properties I get extra perks and the competing casinos will also give me their top tier cards. Revel is giving out free rooms and slot play on a repeating basis to these players to attract them to their casino since they aren't getting the traffic they hoped for.

As far as numbers:
I ended June with 130 hours @ +$4110 although I feel I forgot to write down a small win at the end of the month, not sure
July so far has been rather disappointing as far as results. Nine sessions with six wins and thee losses. The losses have averaged around $500 each time and the wins have averaged about $150. Factor in the $300 I made in the freeroll and I'm at 50 hours @-$385 for July. I'm up about $1100 in less than ten hours of video poker so my liferoll is about level at a bit over six grand.
I really hope this outside money comes through soon so I can be at boderline five figures. At this point in my life I fear being broke again. This past winter I spent to much time worring about money when my liferoll dipped down to three figures. I've spent to much of my life with next to nothing. Relatively speaking I have a lot right now but I'm old enough to know how quickly it can be gone if I'm reckless.
Moving forward I'm looking to rent a room next month, play 1/2 regularly, and stockpile some money for a possible long vacation this winter. I hate the cold weather so I'm not trying to spend it here in the northeast. I will spend it grinding in Miami, Las Vegas, or LA and maybe go see my parents for the holidays (they live on a tropical island). -
downswings at these stakes can be large and uncontrollable.
hit me up if you want to split a room starting like aug 13 or 14 -
Im glad there was an update...this thread is great. I'll be in ac thursday 7/26 probably staying at trop.

Just finished reading this post.. Heading to Biloxi ms tomorrow to get my feet wet again after about 8 months off. Was doing something similar early last year grinding 170. To right around 3k but life happened more like IRS happened and had to dump 2800 to tax man. Glad to see your doing well. the Hardest part for me was finding an affordable place to stay with such a limited roll I to lived about 4 hours away glad to hear you are able to make money and still she'll out the money for a place... Gets me thinking again...... Hated starting the day with a - due to rooms but I suppose all business have to spend money to make money. Keep us up to date man and gl at the tables.

Hey my peoples. I'm still living. Been playing a heap of video poker to get to diamond status so the casinos will give me rooms and shit come winter time. Staying at Taj Mahal right now and will be moving into Revel tomorrow. Trying to find rooms the last couple of weeks has been a headache. Sharing rooms with degen grinders who just talk about their latest bad beat over and over again. Sometimes I hate people. I prefer to live alone but thats expensivee when you're hotel hopping during the summer months. I got a number for a decent rooming house thats just off the boardwalk. An older guy I play with gave me the number and said the house is full of russian girls (win?). I might degen it up tomorrow and get drunk and see what kind of trouble I get into since I'll be living large in the new billion dollar hotel/casino.
