  1. Where Im from I cant just drive to a local casinos, we have home games. I am going to try and give you an idea of what kind of home games we have in Texas.

    2-5nl
people buy in from $300- $500
    10% rake up to $10
+$1 High Hand after $20 pot
You know everybody at the table (they are awful though)
25 hands an hour at best

I think its also worth mentioning that in the 5+ years ive been playing poker I have heard of no one who has built any sort of roll to move on to bigger and better things, could that be because of the games not being worth it here or maybe because all the players are terrible?

Anyways with the givin examples would you rely on these games as your main source of income or not waste your time on it?
  2. you might loose friends fast if you cripple them financial and go swanning of to vegas with their money
  3. when I say "you know everybody" at the table I dont mean your friends I just mean compared to a casino/online where everyone is a random.

I wouldnt mind running off to vegas with there money I am just wondering if it is actually possible

  4. My only thing would be to look at that 10%+1 rake as very hard to overcome especially with that few hand per hour. Play a few sessions and keep very good records and then re-evaluate your realistic expectation. Also we don't know what "making a living" is to you. Could be $20,000 CASH a year or could be $60,000-$100,000. I don't see that later being very obtainable in a home game.
  5. If there is any math people out there that can give a rough estimate on what the hourly would look like in this scenario?

This is true. I will say this though the edge a good player has over the avrg raked home game is much more than the avrg casino poker game imo so it makes up a bit for it.

these are the most annoying questions in the world. how the fck do we have any idea what your winrate is in these games? ffs
  8. hence rough estimate

I am not asking you what you think my winrate would be, just what one that seems to be in the realm of possibilities.

Please dont reply if all you have is your personal peeves to add to the topic

  9. We would need more info relative your personal win rate to be constructive. That's why in my earlier post I encouraged you to keep really good records for a while and evaluate yourself. How aggressive you are, how willing your opponents are and your tilt frequency call all factor into this big time. "MY" goal is to win 10BB per 100 hands. Now I need about 20,000 hands for this to level out and I've been over and sadly well under. Brian Willis was my cash game teacher and this was the bar he set for me. This was originally set for online play and I can see where it could be higher live. The pre-flop pots are generally bigger and many live games have no cap on the buy in so your implied odds are better from the start. I kind of feel that all variance is relative but that's one mans opinion.
  10. That's a high rake for it to be a sustainable living. in a 2/5 game, you'll most likely hit the $10+1 every hand. that's $275 off the table an hour. How far are you from Oklahoma, or Louisiana?
  11. LOL. i mean maybe, but think about what you're asking. you want to make your living off of taking your friends money that they most likely actually worked for. lolololol

I am not saying I am going to go take my friends money to try and live the dream, I think playing live home games are -ev all around due to the fact that usually its gonna get raped by the gamerunner for their own business.

Its pretty obvious that noone can make any money at this type of game. While I stay away from it I see everybody else trying to grind it out and are destroying their lives because of it.

  14. Looks like the best way to win is to host the game! But you better save 25% for bail and attorney's fees when you get raided. Home games should have ZERO rake!
  15. $10 rake is way to high for home game. Hard to beat on skow paced table
