Maybe. It could also mean that AP/UB wants the DOJ to free up some of its frozen assets in order to pay players.

Doesn't that sound like they do or can get the money to pay the players back if the DOJ will let them? -
no..it sounds like they're giving plyrs the run around, just like FTP did..sounds like another case of mis-managed funds to me..why wouldn't the doj let them pay players back?..nonsense..almost makes me glad my cash is on ftp, at least they're catching heat, and are calling ppl trying to give out IOU's.. everyone has just forgotten about cereus

Im from OZ and have recieved one 250$ payment since Black Friday. So im not really sure how the DOJ has any bearing on my payments not being processed. My guess is they failed to segregate player funds too

From your article:

I went into discussion about the work that it would involve, then drew this conclusion:Poker Addict’s article also recommended filing suit against Absolute Poker and UB.
This whole scenario would be such a nightmare and even if you prevail, there is virtually no chance you would ever collect anything except a moral victory. It would cost a Fortune to get what would probably be a useless judgment. Even if there are a few dollars left, Madeira Fjord shareholders and the U.S. government would almost certainly be in line ahead of you if there is a liquidation.

That makes me laugh. That's just hipocrisy. They are not even paying players outside the U.S., how come they want to pay players in the U.S.??I have almost $3K on that stupid site and they never pay me back.I find no other reason but this: They spent all our money.. Even if they get an authorization from the DOJ, there are no funds available for them to pay the players back. And as poker players, we have to make some assumptions, and mine is that they are not even TRYING to get an authorization from the DOJ. God, how can they be so dishonest by releasing a statement like that?PatheticShame on you CEREUS

FWIW--This was posted on Oct.27th by a UB reg on another forum.

"Dear GuiGui_88,
We wanted to email you to give you an update on the status of UB/AP.
We recognize that there is a considerable degree of speculation surrounding the status of account withdrawals and the process of distributing funds to qualified players. We want to assure you that the distribution of player funds has been, and remains, our highest priority.
To this end, you should know that we are currently in active discussions with a number of parties about potential sales opportunities, and we continue to work diligently to devise a solution that will allow us to distribute funds to players. This has been, however, a complicated process, and the determination of appropriate mechanisms for the safe and efficient distribution of funds to players has proven to be an especially difficult task.
Nevertheless, despite a series of formidable obstacles, we believe that we are close to finalizing a well-considered process of distributing funds to players that will be fair for all account holders. We expect, therefore, to issue a statement in the near future, providing the details of this process.
Please understand that we would have preferred to provide you with more frequent updates. However, ongoing legal negotiations have restricted our ability to communicate publicly. We hope that you will understand.
We appreciate your patience during this difficult period, and we will provide you with further information at an appropriate time in the near future."
