The online internet gambling sites were worry that even if the state passes regulation (which Nevada seems to be doing shortly) that they're would be federal consequences by the Wire Act. This news means that the wire act doesn't apply to online poker, just online sports betting.

Seems like this could be the first domino in our favor, cautiously optimistic that this turns out to be really big news.

IE: think about how the feds constantly clash with the legalized pot business in california -
yah but with the argument about consumer protection in our favor,i don't see how this doesn't become an instant homerun for us poker players...........explain how the feds can jump down a states throat if they shown american protection for american consumers

Didn't all the prosecutions of online poker sites hinge on the fact that they could use the Wire Act to declare online poker illegal? Doesn't this decision mean that the UIGEA does not apply to online poker?
-
I believe that you are correct, except that the UIGEA still applies to states that explicitly state that online poker is illegal (WA and maybe a couple others).
-
So lets say New Jersey and Nevada pass laws allowing for online poker to be played within those states borders, will we be able to play on pokerstars in those states?
-
Online poker is not illegal. Using phone or computer to transfer money to make wagers is according to wire act. UIGEA is a different act.
