so dreamy

If ur politics was like ur poker skillz we'd be twins. wp sir.

-

lol you would use "her" as your generic pronoun.

Aside from that, nicely done! Very interesting article, love how thorough and detailed your analysis is.

-

LOL, I alternated between masculine and feminine pronouns as is now standard.

Thanks for the kind words, all.

-

ty for not posting any political mumbo jumbo!

WP Underdog...continued success

nice job UD

This is just so.... real. You are a very good player, a regular guy who has put in a good bit of work into your game, which has obviously helped a lot.

As we discussed recently, after you submitted this article, I feel that the main reason you aren't bubbling a lot is that you abuse the bubble well, and generally by the time there are 19 (or 10) left, you have more chips than most of the players you are pushing into. Your self-analysis that this shows that you have too much fear at this point didn't match up with your stats at all.

Your analysis of the variance, and the lessons from the data really held a lot of good info that any current or would-be 180-man grinder should read.

I was thoroughly impressed. Nice work.

The Numbers:

Over the course of a 4598 word article, you used

"He" 3 times

"Him" 0 times

"She" 1 time

"Her" 1 time

Closer Analysis

While on first glance this may appear that you did, as you claim, alternate between masculine and feminine pronouns in this article, perhaps even with a slight bias toward the masculine. However, a closer, more careful look at your article reveals the truth.

Here are the paragraphs in which you use masculine pronouns:

"One of the worst players I ever encountered was in the Sunday Million on pokerstars. This person would absolutely not fold under any circumstances. I was amazed to see players who should have known better try to bluff this person with air and get called with bottom pair. Eventually he busted out but not before he knocked out a lot of players."

and

"However, one of the misconceptions on pocketfives that I have encountered is the idea that the $4.40 tournament player is terrible, and that it's like playing bingo. Just last week someone posted a hand from a $12 180 in Poker Discussion and said that he was sure that the small blind villain who pushed on the flop must have had a good hand because "donks at this level don't know about the stop-and-go." I can assure you that the stop-and-go move is alive and well at the $4.40 level."

As you can see, in both situations where you choose to use masculine pronouns, you are referring to a specific, identifiable individual who <emphasis>is</emphasis> either male or female.

Now lets examine your usage of feminine pronouns:

"Generally, it's not a good idea to make too many assumptions about the players in a game. While having a general idea as to the level of a random player is appropriate, don't get sucked into complacency and fail to notice that some players are playing much better (or worse) than the buy-in level would seem to indicate. The truth is that you often have no idea why a player is playing at a particular level. A good player might have terrible bankroll management and has been forced to go back to a lower level after some bad variance has wiped her out. Conversely, she might be a bankroll nit who is determined to stay within very tight parameters for game selection. You just don't know."

Here, unlike our earlier scenario with the masculine pronouns, your usage is truly generic. The "She" referred to can be any of a group of people, a group whose gender makeup is surely not homogenous. This is, in fact, the only time in your article that you reference an individual of a generic group of which you yourself are not a part (in those times when you are a part of the group, you use plural pronouns which are, of course, gender-neutral).

Conclusions

From this I can conclude that you are not - as you claim - simply "alternating between masculine and feminine pronouns as is now standard." Rather, you have displayed a distinct bias in favor of feminine pronouns, indicative of a radical social agenda. You're fooling no one, Underdog.

article of the year. thank you.

-

Very well done, sir.

-

LOL Lord Supremo.

You caught me. It was a blatant attempt to curry favor with my wife. I think your post was as thoroughly researched as my article. :)

-

I thought this was pretty great tbh.

-

Great article Underdog,

Definitely will help me improve my game, i am not a 180 sng player, but really enjoy the mtts, i am in the money at a good 24 % and still my roi is -4% clearly showing that i am too worried about cashing.

Looking at the big picture makes the difference. I may not have enough tourneys (718 in poker stars) to know were i am, but will try to adjust my game to get better results.

Thanks for sharing this with us and congrats on your effort.

Never has there been a scarier username than "Bushes." Oh wait, poker. Vn article UD. I hope to grind my way back up to your $4.40 level

-

Very nice, I wish I could handle looking at numbers like you do. Perhaps I can trade you a bit of gut instinct for some mathmatical analysis and we both can balance out our poker game.
