Growing up I also played those games you mentioned, for me it was in learning how to play and what I needed to do to become a better player that drove me. Sure, winning was nice but that wasn't my main goal. Now with poker it is still the same, trying to become a better player and being able to build a br from freerolls or with just a deposit of $25 (I have built it up to $80 so far and I am happy with that). As long as it works for you then go with it.
