  1. I am starting to hit the casino more to take some money from the live fish, and have been doing well over a moderate sample size. Im aiming at improving my game, and want some input on a few hands to get some different perspectives. Im a good player, and am generally happy with my play throughout a given night, but obviously have room to improve, hence why Im posting a couple of hands for some discussion.

My image: generally tight and solid, not overly aggressive but know when to apply pressure overall, people know if they're playing against me to tread lightly

    Hand #1:
    Villian: $600
    hero: $500
History: We played a multi way pot, I smooth called AKo on the button, flop came AJ4hh (I didn't have a heart), i called a bet, villain check raises a 6 turn (he was weak on the flop and hesitated calling), I called and rivered a K to stack his A6o, so needless to say he was probably gunning after me
Hand: a few limpers, I raise ATo on the button to $15, 2 callers. Flop comes KJ6 rainbow. He check calls a bet of $25, pretty quickly might I add. Turn comes a blank, he checks, I bet $40 and he raises to $140, I fold.

Question 1: check behind on the turn? I didn't think he was strong until he check raised me, and given I hadn't seen him check raise all night without 2 pair+ Im obviously beat, but did I play this hand poorly? I obv rabbit hunted and spiked a Q, he confessed he had KJ, shitty.

    Hand #2:
    Villian 1: $180
    My Friend: $200
    Hero: $550

Villian 1 straddles, Im in the BB and my buddy is in the SB. Villian is new to the table and its his first hand, so no history. SB is a super tight rock, his big bets mean big hands, his small bets mean small hands. Everyone folds, SB completes, I call with ATo, straddle checks. Straddler says "lets see a 9" or something like that. Flop comes A94hh. We all check. Turn is an off suit Q, SB checks, I bet $10, Villian folds and my friend raises to $20. I call. River comes a blank, a 7 or something. He bets $35. Before I say what I did, what is your play?

Those are the only hands I questioned how I played that night, hopefully next time Ill come back with some more.

  2. Forgot about another hand.

    Hand #3:

In the bb with A9hh, ep raiser opens to $10, 5 callers and I call. Flop comes J94hh, I check, guy with a 900 stack bets 25, I have about 550 in front of me. A bunch of folders, I smooth call OOP and everyone else folds. Turn comes the 2h. I lead out for $75, guy tanks and folds. Looking back there are a few things I could have done differently, just want some advice from some others.

  3. Hand 1: I give up after he calls your flop bet (unless we hit the nuts obv or an ace or something). You said it yourself; he's gunning for you. He's going to call you down light, so take advantage of it. Don't bluff with marginal holdings. The c-bet on the flop is fine but shut down after that. Also, what casino actually allows you to rabbit hunt?

Hand 2: If your friend is as tight as you say he is, I'm just folding the turn. Definitely folding the river as played. Rocks don't make bets with 1 pair type hands here.

Hand 3: I'm probably check raising the flop and leading pretty much any turn. With your smooth call on the flop, I think it's more profitable to check and see if he'll fire another barrel. If you're going to bet, make it a smaller bet (Around $25 or so) to disguise it as just a donk lead and if he's a thinking player he may raise you for the sake of trying to get you off your hand. Even if you bet small and he doesn't raise, he'll still probably call with just a Jx type hand if the bet is small enough which leads you up to a good spot to value bet the river with $60 or so.
  4. 1st Hand - Scary flop to be 2 barreling. C bet is fine but a quick call suggests they're ready to take it to a showdown. All you can hope is they're on the str8 draw. Better I think to use this as an opportunity to show the table you'll give up the bluff quickly so you can get better results later with a 2 or 3 barrel.

2d Hand - As played I call unless I am absolutely convinced he wouldn't bet anything with a worse hand than I had. In which case you should never have called his check/raise. If he wins he probably shows Q9, if he loses then KQ, QJ or Ace rag. If he showed AQ then he knows you as good or better than you know him. Things you could have done differently: a-Raise the straddle, don't let him get invested in his rag hand unless he's really willing to invest in it. b-Bet the flop. Make them pay to draw out on you. You need much stronger hands to give free draws when you have that big a piece of the flop.

3d Hand - Perfect flop to donk bet. I personally like betting nut draws in early position. Very seldom get read for it when you make your hand. As played you pretty much put the villain in the position of deciding whether or not you had the flush or were bluffing the flush. Either bet less ($25-$35) or check/call.

Reason: Because I always forget something.
  5. Hand 1.) I like to check back to preserve our equity and hopefully spike an A or Q. Also if hes gunning for you he may c/r the turn with a hand like Q 10 and make you fold the best hand. I check back in that spot quite often.

Hand 2.) Nits dont take this line as a bluff or with one pair ever so its a pretty easy fold.

Hand 3.) I like to check raise and barrel most turns. Got to play big draws aggressively bro
