Just got back from my first trip to Vegas and I got a bunch of hands to post but this is the only one from the MGM that I am questioning. My question is did I play the flop and turn right? Heres the hand...
UTG-260- he sat down like 30 mins ago, pretty bad, limp folds alot
Hero- 450
BB- 250- always defends
UTG raises to 10, everyone folds to me I call with K
9
, BB calls
Flop (30ish) 4
9
J
UTG bets 25....I call? I almost raised but wanted to get it in on turn.....BB folds
Turn (85) 2
He looks pretty nervous to me and bets 60....I ask him for a count and he knocks his chips over and says around 160 more....I just call his bet but should I have put him all in here?
River (215) Q
I got the 2nd nuts obviously and he bets, I put him in and he flips over A7 diamonds....I had been playin pretty crazy raising and re-raising from my button the majority of the time nad raising anything in position...I know I cant fold the river but should I have put it in on the flop or turn cause he said he would have folded afterwards...
I am on the button....
Thanks

calling a raise of 5X BB out of position with k9?? Also, you would have a tough fold, but you would not had have had to put him all in. Sounds like you had a read on him, right??

Heres my short advance,
fold pf
raise flop
Bet turn
Push River -
I agree about calling preflop with K9s - that's a real trouble hand that should really never be played in a raised pot. Sounds to me from the way you describe the hand that you had position.
I probably raise on the flop for a couple of reasons. First off, you may actually have the best hand at that time, you have 2nd pair with a good kicker. Secondly, you most likely have the best drawing hand and can only be really far behind a set (also a higher diamond draw, but once you're in the hand you have to put that thought out of your head).
If you raise the flop, he probably calls. Once a rag hits the turn, he'll check to you and depending on your read, you can fire out another bet - in which case he probably folds. You can also check behind and take the free river card.
The second option is a bit interesting, because if you take the free card in this spot, you both get there on the river. He'd certainly lead out when he hit his flush after you checked behind on 4th street. Then it gets to be decision time... everyone can see that a diamond just hit, so an alarm could start going off in your head that he's got the nuts. Perhaps then, you can just call rather than raise (although, I'd probably raise in that spot with the 2nd nuts).
All in all, I just don't like the passive plays on the flop and turn. You have position in the hand, you need to take advantage of it when a flop hits your hand like that. -
Yeah I agree, I was just calling with this hand because I was in position and figured I could take the pot down later because the guy was really weak/horrible. I dont mind the call and I will make that play preflop alot.
How bad is pushing the turn? -
i think you played this ok calling first of all
i play a lot of live 1/2 and its hard for internet players to realize that its a lot different in relation to betting
sometimes the standard maybe 12 bucks to see the flop some tables 15 and other nights 5 bucks is the goin rate
so if you call i think thats ok
on the flop though i would definately reraise to see where your at and hopefully allow you to take it down
then if he checks on the turn you can decide to see a free card and reevaluate
i think doing this may even allow for you to get away when he bets his flush -
To offer complete constructive criticism, don't post the results. First, fold preflop. Second, definitely raise the flop here with the intention of getting it all in on the flop if played back at, not the turn. You're in decent shape not matter what he holds with two cards to come. Of course, you raising here changes the dynamic of the hand completely. But I don't understand why you want to wait until the turn to get your money in drawing to one card instead of two.

You have to take into account the range of any raising player in this game, especially the 1-2 game at MGM. The Average Raise there is 5-6x AT LEAST.
