I'll keep this short. I am torn between the following two strategies (and reasoning behind) for a 1 Rebuy and 1 Add On Tournament (not unlimited).
1) Add On right Away
Pros: You can maximize the value of your hands if you pick one up early.
Cons: If you go bust, you are out.
2) Add On once and if you bust Rebuy
Pros: If you get sucked out, you can rebuy and are still alive
Cons: your stack will be shorter after first hour.
Any theories?

Not sure why anyone would sign up for a tournament and plan on playing it at a disadvantage. Just play Freeze outs if you don't want to rebuy.
-
I double rebuy and play it like a freezeout while all the monkeys spew because they see the word rebuy in the title and I also add on.
But for the most part, just play it like a deep stacked freezeout. You want to have as many chips as early on because that is when you will be the deepest. Also people playing so bad you want to maximize it when you catch them for 6k pots not for 3000 pots. -
agreed 1 rebuy 1 addon is just a fancy title for "optional deepstack tournament, but not deepstacked for poor people"
Theere is no strategy to discuss rebuy right away and addon. Ta da -
On a side note I love these tournaments because of the reasons I said above and because I like the idea of deepstack tourneys but the 30 minute blinds make them unbearable. Reasonably deep stack and 15 minute blinds is perfect imo.

I think you are missing the point [of my post]
I just see advantages both ways. I've never played a rebuy and been scared to rebuy. I just realize that it is more important to accumulate chips after the rebuy period then before.
That being said, I haven't decided which strategy I prefer. I see one as a deper stack freezeout, and one as an insurance policy.
Does this make sense ? I usually add on, but I think you can argue both ways.

Thanks admiral and flu....that's what I was getting at. I have confidence in my game, but still find a case (albeit small) for the other strategy possibly. Thanks for the input though.

Rebuy right away - if you get sucked out on you start another tourney.
-
I like to go with option 1 and play it like a deepstack tourney. If I bust I bust, but I am pretty sure when the majority of the chips go in I will either have the best of it or be getting coolered, I want to maximize those opportunities.

i used to not rebuy and gamble it up hardcore...some good results, but, if u double rebuy right away, u wont THROW AWAY 1500 chips. I used to save a rebuy and pretty much throw away chips before the break...then if i lost 10 minutes to the break, i would sit out till add on..then add on and go with that.
I was told to always double rebuy and play it as a freeze. Seems to be the best way to go. Cuz more than likely, if u dont rebuy right away, u will throw away your chips. But knowing u still have a rebuy, it can help u to take that big gamble late to get the 1500 slammers at the end.
Overall,
just double rebuy and play it like a freeze....and stfu..no questions asked, i like that response. -
I like to typically rebuy from the start because as someone mentioned earlier you get alot of retards who see the word rebuy and think its a license to donk so if you catch them speeding you can really jump out to a nice start. I also feel that using the other rebuy as an insurance policy can sometimes screw you too in the way that if you get sucked out on the second time your out with nothing to show where as if you risk it all on the first hand and you dont get sucked out on you have more to show (if that makes any sense) in the long run.

On absolute, you have the option of 2 add-ons at the break. I enter the tourney, rebuy off the bat, and then only play aces or kings the first hour. Then I add-on twice at the break and i'm at 6000 chips with blinds 50-100. a third of the field is out already and now i'm average chips without playing a hand and proceed to treat it as a deep stack tourney and only pay attention to my chip stack in relation to blind size which is 6000 to 100bb...i'll play zero hands for an hour and start after the break at average chips..my strategy anyways. I know this is a little off topic for 1 rebuy , 1 addon..but i'd employ the same strategy..rebuy early, sit back and wait till last chance to addon and go from there

seems like u give yourself no chance to get big thoe. If everyone knows your just playing AA or KK, they will not give u action. So basically, u start every 2nd hour, with 6k minus blindage. i dunno dude, i think u should just play normal, but if your cool with just being at 6k at the breakso be it. Ya thats enough to play on, but most will have 10k or more and then, your short and in big pots. if u lose one big pot early in the 2nd hour, youve become a shover. I dont buy it that u just play AA or KK and always wait. I dunno, more info please. So are u saying u only play AA or KK in deepstack, freezeout games during the first hour?
Or better yet, if u double to 6k in a deep stack freezeout, do u sit back for the first hour and wait for hour 2?
Ive thought about doing that, i doubled to 6k in a DS freeze on the first hand and ended up getting in trouble and ending first hour with 4k. Thinking, damn, i wish i had 6k here. lol..do u do this? Would u have sat back with 6k here, and only played AA or KK the first hour? -
The thing is with keelzy's strategy he says a third of the field doesn't last to the end of the rebuy period. So if he has an average stack then he is basically playing a 33% overlay tournament, correct?
-
This is probably wrong but I like to start with 1500 unless most of the table has rebought to 3000...The few times Ive played it only 1 or 2 had rebought to start. If I can get my money in good at 1500 or below Ill rebuy during the hand so if I win the hand Ill be at 4500. If I dont have a chance to chip up quickly to start and the table is starting to get bigger stacks then Ill rebuy when I get down to 1000 or so. If theres 4 or 5 3k stacks to start Id prolly jus rebuy right away. My strategy may be flawed.
