Table is playing a little on looser side. I'm a believer in A5s having very good implied odds. Raising this utg seems pretty spewy, but so does calling oop. I prefer calling to keep pot small, keep from being re-raises off my hand, but table hasn't 3-bet anything but KK+ from what I've seen. Original raiser is very TAG, and the caller plays atc from any position, pretty big calling station.

Leading out wrong here? Pre-flop action? -
preflop is fine, but id lead especially since there is very little 3betting. You hit the flop hard and your hand is disguised well. You bet out, and should be called by any ace and any flush draw, maybe even a queen from a loose opponent. No-one had an ace, and no-one had a flush draw, and as such you were not called.
You likely wouldn't have made much money on the hand either way even if you hadn't lead out. Better to lead out, and get the likely action from a flush draw or strong ace, then check and let people draw free. It would especially suck for someone to hit their gut-shot or set because you checked the flop, on already a dangerous flop. -
I don't see how limp calling w/ this hand could the best play. If you just flop the ace then are you still leading out?
-
Right, haven't head the other responses, going to go through this myself...
Pre-flop, if I'm not raising in 6-man, I'll throw it away. Exception is small PP, sometimes I'll limp so I don't get 3-bet and lose my express odds. If the table is reasonably tight, I'll raise it up to try and 'steal' the blinds.
Bearing in mind your read, it may be especially vigilant to throw A-5s away. If you know bat three is calling with ATC, then you're in trouble cos he may call with something like A-7. Are you always able to get away if the naked Ace comes? As per the poker cliché, small aces are too dangerous. Raise it up or pass it.
Right, to the flop. Raiser should be kinda worried now, you limped then flat-called. The flop is read-dependent. Does the pf raiser here always c-bet? If so, check and let him do it, then either flat (depending of bat three's move) or raise. If he's the type of player who raises it up then shuts down if scare cards come, then leading out is best because otherwise you're giving a free card. If he's planned on shutting down, he's gonna do it whether you bet or not. Charge the draws.
If you're going to bet the flop, I think the entire pot is prudent, yet unprofitable. It screams 'I have a hand, don't call please!'. Maybe bet 1/2-3/4 to look like you wanna see an extra card, see if pf raiser comes over the top, and then flat or reraise depending on whether you think you have him.
Not terrible play by any means, I mean you won the pot. But you could do with getting more out of this pot - calling with A-x OOP isn't going to be profitable often, you need to maximise.
Right... I'll go read everybody else's responses. -
2.50 is less then 3/4 the pot.
-
Yes, I am very comfortable getting away if an ace comes on the flop. Im playing this hand strictly for flush, straight, two pair, trips, etc etc. I'm thinking this becomes unprofitable being OOP and unable to play for pot control, though. Thanks for the responses

if your calling to hit only those hands in a 6-handed table, it is definitely unprofitable as an aggressive player will exploit you often.
-
Preflop, meh if you are good post flop OOP, then maybe ok.
On the flop it is a check raise for me, i dont know the guy but he would c-bet probably 80% of the time here if not more. Plus bat three will be acting before us after the c-bet, so it allows more money into the pot before we CR if he floats, calls, w/e. -
A couple more questions -
Do you ever open limp at a 6-handed table? against an aggro to your left who constantly 3-bets you?
What is good 3-betting strategy? -
facing strong aggressive opponents on your left, you are going to have a hard time.
Best recommendation is to play patient for awhile, get a good read on the guy, and then exploit his tendencies.
if he raises your limps, limps strong hands. if he 3-bets your raises, then raise with premium hands (and garbage sometimes to disguise it). Problem is when he plays a balanced game of raising and folding, and pressures you in position. With all this pressure, you can only enter the pot with strong hands, so you should tighten up accordingly.
3-betting is fairly complicated 6-handed against good opponents. Until you have a good feel for the table and how people are playing, 3-bet your premium hands only. (JJ+, AK)
