I know AA is ideal, but from EARLY position and 7-10 BB, do you prefer to be shoving hands like 22 or A3, or are you better off pushing a hand like 10 9 and having a better chance vs hands that will call you?
If you have a hand like 78s in late post w/ 7-10 BB and lots of action, should you be putting your chips in to try to build a stack?
Thanks in advance. -
i use the first in strategy. suited connectors, suited one gappers, pp, picture cards. if there is action before it gets to me i tighten it up because u have no fold equity. i do not like to call all in when i know am 40% at best to win. however, i will push with almost atc in late position especially if the blinds are tight.

annette wrote this on strictly shoving pps. im sure you can correlate this to other similarly strong hands.

If it's around 10 bb, I'd much rather shove a low PP or suited connectors than hands like A-rag, KJ, or QT in EP. If it's closer to 5 BBs then all of those become shoving hands in EP, and less than that ATC become shoving hands in any position if first to open.

I don't like to give my shove ranges with 7-10 BB but what the hell...its not like i'll be playing professionally any time soon.
To answer your question, if there's a lot of action (ie: a lot of callers, no re-raise or 3-bets), then I would probably shove 7-8(s) in late position even though it is at the very low end of my range.
Assuming this is a tourney (not a sattelite) and blinds are greater than 100-200, my shove ranges are:
Early position (UTG, UTG+1): 88+, AK, AQ, AJ, A10, KQ(s), KJ(s)
Mid-position (UTG+2, +3, +4) (no openers): pp, Any A, K-10+, suited connectors J-10+
Mid-position with openers: pp, A-10(s)+, AJ(os)+
Late Position (CO, Button) (no openers): ATC
Late Position with openers: pp, Any A, Any K, J-10+, suilted connectors 7-8+
Blinds (no openers): ATC
Blinds with openers: pp, any 2 paint, any suited connectors
Anyone chime in if these ranges are too tight or too loose. -
I had a situation that was fitting to this subject come up yesterday. Post with no good responses. Had 44 Utg+3 with 10bb's.......Ehhh....I Shoved ran into QQ, wasn't really distraught about it just wanted some advice on the play. Thanx for the responses....

Well, running into monsters will always happen.
I was reading the Detroit News (detnews.com), and it had an article by Daniel Negranu on Friday, and it was talking about this subject. He said that you are better off shoving a K9 in these spots than a 76 suited, as it plays better against the ranges.
Here is a link to the article.
