  1. Hey David,

I'm pretty pro SNG Power Tools and making +EV calls and pushes, but in your final situation about calling an all in with 76o, I think doing this a few times vs. a regular pushbot and only a regular pushbot will likely send a message, and could possibly lead to a higher long term expectation. If he sees you will call with any two sometimes, he will have to adjust his strategy accordingly, but how many more times is that player going to be directly on your right when the blinds get large thinking, "I better not push here cuz he is calling me pretty loose." ?? Also, when the blinds are large and you're in late position there are a lot of situations where its unexploitable to push in with any 2 cards making it +EV for him to push with any two cards no matter what you may be holding. What about if you have 10x BB in the BB and a pushbot SB pushes and has you covered, and you know he is capable of pushing with crap here, how do things change with your calling range? Are you willing to take a stand with A5o? I'm sure there's more, good discussion to be had here. Clearly you have found what works for you and have made it profitable, and that's very impressive.
  2. Q: If he sees you will call with any two sometimes, he will have to adjust his strategy accordingly, but how many more times is that player going to be directly on your right when the blinds get large thinking, "I better not push here cuz he is calling me pretty loose." ??

A: It's not quite like that. You play quite a few SnG's yourself, but wait until you move up to higher levels and start seeing more & more of the same people over & over again. When it comes to playing against some of the (successful) multi-tablers, they (like me) probably don't look at the cards all that much when they're on the bubble. As a matter of fact, it might be better altogether just to put a Post-It note over your hole cards on the bubble unless you're faced with an actual CALL.

They'll push with any two, I'll push with any two... they know it & I know it & they know that I know that they know that I know it. It's a little similar to having each contestant grab a set of irons and start clobbering each other seeing who can get a miniscule percentage of an edge against the other. There are 5 or 6 guys out of all the people I've seen who I'd very seldomly make one of those calls against (and never against anyone else)... but BELIEVE ME, they remember it! (as do I when they make the very same calls every once-in-a-while against me).

If you give ONE INCH to players who are very young/capable/intelligent/prudent/sufficiently rolled and dedicated, they'll beat you to a pulp in Turbo SnG's. I can't afford to let that happen against those guys, and they can't afford to let that happen against me -- hence a "weird" call every week or so. Also, he doesn't need to be on your direct right to remember that lightning might strike and you might call him down with whatever.

Q: What about if you have 10x BB in the BB and a pushbot SB pushes and has you covered, and you know he is capable of pushing with crap here, how do things change with your calling range? Are you willing to take a stand with A5o?

A: It would take a strong read or intuition to make a call like that... but if I'm confident I'm 65/35, then sure I'll make that call too. As a matter of fact, I've probably made more calls similar to this second question than those referring to the first question. Now, OF COURSE, there will be times when your buddy flips over a monster and leads the table in a chorus of guffaws as you bust out in 6th Place... but does that really matter?

If you think the +EV situation is there, you gotta take it. And that means (although few will ever believe it) MAKING MISTAKES at times for the sake of (a) education (b) a higher long-term expectation and (c) because you HAVE to act on what you think is correct at the time. But no, I would normally not make that call. But yes, I would probably make that call (based more on putting my opponent on a range of hands, rather than sending my opponent a message as in the first example) in more than 3 SnG's out of 1,000.
    ---

The game has to be played as if you had no money invested at all, but rather as if it were a competition where you had to perform your best to win. If you're altering your bubble strategy because (a) you're on a bad run, (b) you're insufficiently rolled, (c) you're otherwise distracted, (d) you've busted out of the first few SnG's in you current multi-tabling "round" and are dead-set on not busting out of the rest **this is the most-common ailment of SnG multi-tablers**, then you're not playing to the best of your ability; which is negative EV.
