Whats your play here at this level sng? -
All I play is $110 turbo 6 max sngs so I can probably be of some help...
Firstly, I think your flop bet could be a TAD larger, but for the cirumstances of this hand I dont think it matters.
Secondly, I also think your turn raise could also be a tad larger as well, the problem here is you are going to bring along the runner runner flush draws. Whereas a raise to say 350-400 you will get the flush draws to fold but bad players will almost never fold any ace no matter how much you bet so you wont generally lose value from weaker aces.
Lastly, as played I fold river. Smells horribly of Q8 or A8. Theres a slight chance he has missed a draw but ill take my ~1k chips and wait it out. By being patient and making positional raises you have a fair chance to grind this back to 1300-1400 by the time the blinds get substantial.
But I think on a more general note, it helps to consider the fact that this decision is extremely close between a call and a fold. And although you always want to make the right plays at the table, you have to realize that in spots like this often times the resulting change in dollar equity between calling or folding would be so small that it doesnt really matter which one you chose, its not going to affect your bottom line in the long run. And the beauty of SNGs is if you're wrong, learn from your mistakes, and fire up another!
Also, something to consider about SNGs in general... I much prefer to avoid playing hands like AJ and KQ early on. I know you're thinking, AJ suited on the button 6 handed facing a limper, how can you possibly fold? But the truth of the matter is, there is no shame in straight up folding that preflop. By avoiding these types of trouble hands you essentially eliminate these awkward positions later on in the hand. Remember, turbo SNGs are all about preservation in the early stages. Its all about maintaining every last chip you can until you reach the push/fold stage, at which point you let em have it.
Think about it... AJ at 10/20 chances are you raise preflop, flop your ace and value bet your way to a small pot or they straight up fold on the flop. Its not worth risking putting yourself in these awkward spots to win a few small pots early on. If you wanna play small pots and see flops then deepstack MTTs and cash games will be your game. -
Id fold. Because you can really only beat a bluff. He could have aces up or something sick like Q 8 since its a cheap sng. He could be bluffing. But that would mean that he called your raise on the turn solely to bluff the river and I doubt someone's doing that here.
You're still good with 900-some since its early and the blinds are low.
And like it was said, you played this hand badly in several ways -
^good post jweez. I agree completely in avoiding these awkward spots early in sngs, since it is vital to have some chips when push fold begins, but still wouldn't open fold this at the lower buy ins, I just play for pot control. I think a over limp at this stage wouldnt be horrible with AJ for pot control, and/or also a smooth call on the turn as well. No need to play top pair like the nutz at this stage of a sng unless u have sik reads on villian
