  1. FTP 50/50 the first hand i'm in BB w/ AK. folds to button, he open shoves 1st hand of tournament. Do you fold AK everytime? or are we calling erytime???? for results scroll down
  2. I'm probably calling a shove from the button on the 1st hand, but what do I know?
  3. I call, if he has AA or KK oh well.
  4. so it would be acceptable if he had QQ???
  5. i think it is an easy call personally..........

but you can answer the question yourself. Are you going to be pissed if you lose the hand - if so fold an play your usual game - so what you lose your blind?

Personally I smap call - with the excpetion of 2 hands (AA &KK) - you are AT WORST 50/50

If you think you would be pissed with losing the hand - coin flip or not - then pass

  6. just fold, in a med/higher stakes tourney like this, you are unlikely to find someone pushing anything other than AA/KK/AK/QQ on the first hand, IMO.
  7. call.

  8. unless the person sattyed into the tourney. MU your read is way off on this one (i thought the same thing), i mean, that's the logical thought, but we are not always dealing w/ logical people.

  9. if its the button or cutoff...insta-snap fall out of chair call..the 50/50 is not particularly deep at 2k..and the tourney plays a lot more fun when you chip up to 4k in level 1. from any other position i do a quick poker ranking search and then re-evaluate.

  10. results plz
  11. run his OPR/db him and see how his results are. if his numbers are ok then fold, but if not call. i call without looking up his #s though.
  12. I'd be shocked if anyone making this play had good results. Regardless of what OPR says, this is a snap call.
  13. Snap call. *pumps fist*
  14. Of course you fold. Of course. Absolutely positively 100% of course.
You have absolutely no idea who this player is, and one of my favorite things to do is ridiculously overbet the pot I pick up AA/KK within the first 5 hands of any medium stakes tournament (26-100). If he turns out to be shoving every hand, then oh well. But as we found out from a thread earlier this week by the 1k Monday second place finisher (don't remember the name), folding big hands early = live to fight another day. Calling when you have doubts = you may be in, and you may be out. You start the 50/50 with 100 bbs and it has 12 minute rounds. Drop it like it's hot, and fight another day.
  15. dont think i'm calling, hes only going to show up with a PP or AK.

  16. no way he is only 22+, AK
  17. way to early to call with AK imo...if he has a pair you are a dog...why do that.
  18. because you're already a dog to win the event.

if he shopwed you QQ a call would be correct
  19. call and load more tables
  20. not true at all man.... this really could be anything the first level in a tourney from an unknown believe it or not.
  21. lol I guess if its a friday or saturday night a call is correct

  22. why would you call? you are MAYBE flipping almost never ahead.
    easily find a better spot

    best,

EDIT: wasnt there an article about this earlier in the year?

  23. If we're thinking of the same article, it was about a person having QQ and narrowing an open-shovers range to ONLY AK. The article said it was a clear call for anyone, regardless of how big of an edge they may or may not have over the field.

This is a little different, but I'm still getting it in w/ AK. I think there are times when you are ahead. I've seen people show A10+ KJs+ 22+ after moves like this, but I've never played the 50/50.
  24. ok thanks for all the responses. It seems like about %75 percent say (snap) call, which i did. He flips over, ready for this --------------------------- 8 10s - WHAT WHAT WHAT!!!!!!! he of course hit the 10 on flop.... now this isnt a bad beat post, i just wanted to see what the right play is. I thought about folding for a split sec, but i just felt I was ahead. I mean why would he open shove KK or AA??? OH well LOL@DONKAMENTS

  25. lol guess i was way off. Odd play thats for sure.

  26. he's obviously on monkey tilt and AK crushes a monkey tilt shoving range
  27. I hate it when these incredibly dumb moves get rewarded. Just insane. Seems to happen occasionally at medium stakes.

Something similarly dumb happened to me a couple of weeks ago: Pretty deep into a 10$ rebuy close to the money a guy called my AK 9BB-open-shove for 80% of his stack with 27o and caught a deuce to bust me. I was maaaad!!!

  28. I have a question for you, OP. When you got called, and he showed 8 10 suited, what was your _second_ thought (first was obviously wtf)? How did you feel seeing his hand?
I still maintain that the lack of info, the fact that it was the first hand, etc, dictated a fold. You have an M of, what.... 67? And if he starts shoving every third hand, then you know that you can start calling with more marginal stuff, and AQ/K would be a nanosecondcall. Ascertain the feel of the table, then start making decisions, not guesses.
  29. When I saw him flip over 810, my thought process was "WTF - what a moron", I was sorta happy my "non-read" was correct.(i just felt i was ahead, that's my read.LOLOL) and before the flop even came out, i Knew he was gonna hit his hand. It happens to me WAYYYYYY too often. I lose with the best hand way MORE OFTEN than i win WITH THE BEST. So, in retrospect, yeah I could/should have folded AK the 1st hand of the 50/50 and "just moved on", but i guess i'm just not that disciplined, (yet)
