The following is the first statement to be published by Absolute Poker in regards to their security breach last month. The email below is being sent to players who were involved in the incident and to anyone contacting customer support about the incident. Another statement will be following in the coming days. I think the most important part of this is "All players affected by the security breach will be identified during the audit process that has been initiated and all funds, including interest, will be returned. "
"Dear Valued Player,
Absolute Poker has identified an internal security breach that compromised our systems for a limited period of time. The cause of the breach has been determined and completely resolved. In addition, all necessary resources, both internal and external, have been engaged to ensure this does not happen again. Our investigation is not fully concluded, and we wish to thank the extended poker community for any and all assistance related to the matter.
Game integrity has always and continues to be of the utmost importance at Absolute Poker. The Management of Absolute Poker is appalled by these findings, and is committed to our players and to the integrity of our site and the online poker industry.
All players affected by the security breach will be identified during the audit process that has been initiated and all funds, including interest, will be returned. Absolute Poker would like to apologize for the recent events and is committed to diligently working with outside security firms, auditing firms, the extended poker community and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission to ensure the situation is entirely resolved.
A comprehensive statement will be forthcoming shortly providing more details of the situation." -
took them long enough to tell the truth

1st?
edit: 3rd :/ -
Interesting.
The damage is done though. I've deleted the software and have no intentions of returning. -
"The cause of the breach has been determined and completely resolved."
No. -
they're still lying through their teeth and have no intention of telling the real story.

Absolute sucks. This line is utter bs. I will never play there again. -
No mention of their lies and how it took an employee sending out the potripper file to get this out in the open....

I am eagerly awaiting the next thread.
Absolute can't get off this easy. No deception, no BS.
In a statement earlier this week, Absolute Poker said Tom “has not been involved with Absolute Poker for over a year and to the best of our knowledge, information and belief has not had access to any of Absolute Poker’s systems, databases or information.”
There has been proof that Scott Tom was involved with Absolute as recently as July. Some speculate he still is but this is not confirmed. There has also been proof that Scott Tom is involved in Tokwiro Enterprises, the site performing the audit
Next 2p2 thread is gonna be crucial -
At any rate there is alot of interest to be paid on the cash game side of things.
EDIT: Jeff, do you think it is worse of he is still somewhat involved with AP? Do you not think he and his poker-illiterate friends worked this on their own or with support of someone else at AP? -
I dont believe that they will tell the whole truth either...

Also, in order to get mainstream media cable news channels to cover this in a way that is more critical of AP is impossible without it immediately launching into an attack against all online poker. Not saying whether this is a cumulative positive or negative, but I think it is all or nothing, realistically, pr-wise for online gaming as a whole.

All,
Understand me very clearly when I say that this post is 100% correct and we are trying to walk a very fine line. We are not done with AP by a long shot, but we have to proceed in a way that exposes the one rotten apple in the basket and does not throw away the entire thing.
As I said, expect more dramabombs. However, do not expect the media to be able to savage AP without also savaging online poker *until* AP is fully exposed as a rogue operator. That would be unrealistic, since the only way they can do a balanced story is by letting AP respond, however stupidly. In the meantime, we are doing our best to get there without upsetting the apple cart.

That bullshit makes me so fucking pissed. I just got off the phone with an Absolute VIP "host" and he said (and I quote) "Management just wants the forums to stop talking about it". He went on to say how the forums are spreading a lot of false rumors. Hmm, false rumors? Then why don't you fucking dispel them? Management is not talking to any players he said, only putting them on a list (which I'm assuming is what is referenced in this thread). They are completely burying their heads in the sand and hoping this cools off. Anyone left at Absolute needs to leave now, show them that you won't accept lies.
I don't think it needs to be said, but we can't let this issue die down. -

AP is still lying. However, let us suspend the numerous places where AP lies. Let us accept everything that AP is now saying, (yes, they are still lying, but let's accept it as truth for a moment), okay. So this is the "official" AP statement.
SO HOW THE HELL DO THEY EXPLAIN THIS:
THE INITIAL INVESTIGATION BY ABSOLUTE'S "CRACK" SECURITY TEAM COULD FIND NO EVIDENCE OF WRONG DOING WITH POTRIPPER'S WINNING OF HIS TOURNAMENT.
SO IF WE ACCEPT ABSOLUTE'S CURRENT STATEMENT, IT MEANS:
AP SECURITY COULDN'T DETECT CHEATING THAT EVEN A SLOW-WITTED 9 YEAR OLD COULD FIGURE OUT. HOW SAFE IS YOUR MONEY ON A SITE WITH SUCH POOR SECURITY?
-
Ap management runs good at digging holes.
-
A couple of days ago, they were "insistent that it is not possible for any account that has this ability and no way for anyone to receive other players' hole cards during a hand.", and now they are admiting some sort of fault? It's not exactly confidence-inspiring that a few days ago something like this was so incomprehensable dispite clear evidence in front of them that they didn't even think to look furthur into it.
-
I wander if they will find all players involved in the 1K tourney to be "affected". I highly doubt it. Yet everyone who entered that tourney besides potripper never had a chance of winning. I would call that affected. Every player in that tourney who did not money should receive their entry fee back.
But I doubt that happens. -
Also, why are they sending the emails only to the select few that they could see had a direct at-the-table contact with the fradulent accounts? This stuff affects ALL OF US, in multiple ways. Even though the story is blowing up on sites like this and has been picked up by a couple of news organizations, I would venture to say that a majority of people that are playing on AP are unaware that this ever happened.
If you are TRUELY SORRY about something, you would send system wide emails explaining what happened, what you did to fix it, and how you plan on making ammends. Sending emails to the few people who knew the facts even before AP knew them just seems like an attempt to sweep this under the rug. -
100% cosign AB
Everyone who has an account on AP needs to know what happened so they can decide for themselves whether or not to play on there again. -

This doesn't exonerate them at all. They are only admitting a breach of security after the entire online community proved so. Their morals and ethics still consist of lies, denials and discrediting victims and have only come clean when faced with insurmountable evidence. Remember in the original response they stated that any such breach was impossible. Still don't see why anyone should give them any business in the future.

“The result of our investigation is that we found no evidence that any of Absolute Poker’s redundant and varying levels of game client security were compromised. In other words, we have determined with reasonable certainty that it is impossible for any player or employee to see whole cards as was alleged. There is no part of the technology that allows for a “superuser” account, and there is no way for any person to influence the game software to their advantage.”
