  1. ok tonight in the $55 rebuy a $109 tourney on stars, 2 situations occured that very well could (if played properly) have won me the tournament.

Situation 1 was simple, EXTREMELY loose aggro table. Mp raises minimum, no callers so i limp in BB with J8 suited. Flop comes 109q, with nearly zero hesitation i just went all in... He folds.
The reason i did this is i figured he had AK or even better AQ, plus there was a spade draw on board and i had no spades.

Situation 2 (got hastled a lot for this one because it knocked me out in 3rd place in the $109).

HUGE stack just going all in every hand UNLESS some1 raises.... Only 3 of us left me 20k then chipleadr 100k then 25k. I get AKs on the button, so i figured i'd just limp in and wait for the bigstack to go all in like he had 10 hands straight. So i do and he just calls and the flop ocmes J 8 K. He goes all in i call, he has J8 i lose and i'm extremely mad at how i decided to play the hand. I was being greedy and wanted a doubleup, and knew that i needed a double up if i wanted a chance to win this thing.

Were the plays above TERRIBLE, or just misfortunate endings.
  2. hey 187 , here's my take :

On the first one , I think you def played this wrong and didnt maximize your potential. You said that this was an aggresive tbl.... So you got the raise PF and called in the BB with J8s. Don't mind that at all...
Now you hit the flop hard and just push . Why? You should of chked to the bettor and then chk -raised or even continue to slowplay it and chk to him on turn.

Aggresive players who get bet into usually give up on the hand , from my experience. ( myself included)
Your actions prolly said to him " hey , I hit this flop , so I'm gonna bet. Not you" ....

And now he knows that all the aggresion in the world aint gonna move you off this hand .. so he gives it up.

Also , you said you didnt want him to catch anything ( if had Ak , etc ) Chances are he doesnt have anything good like AK if there's been a lot of raising at the tbls. This doesn't mean he won't ever have it there . But most of the time , he won't . And if he did , you'd want that . He's drawing slim ..... and if you'da chked it to him , he'd prolly bet at it , drawing slim.
This is good for ya ..... don't play scared , fearing that the next card is gonna kill ya .... look to trap aggro players- at least on the flop and then hit them hard on turn. You have to get more out of hands like this ... don't waste em.

Second hand , was kinda just unfortunate. You had a line on his play and were set to use it against him , and just got unlucky. I think I woulda done the same in that hand...........
Anyways , thats my take. Lookin forward to other responses ....
  3. What's the point of having a "Hand Advice" forum if posts asking for Hand Advice don't go there?

    That said...

Hand #1: This is a dead-solid situation for a check-raise. You dream of hands like this. And you screwed it up by pushing and not giving your opponent the chance to stumble into the trap and give you some chips. With a flop like that, it's a pretty good chance that he caught a piece of it...let him fire out. If you want to gamble, I'd even just smooth-call his flop bet and check again on the turn.

Hand #2: You got unlucky...and with a very loose big stack, I'm not even sure your raise gets him off of J8 three-handed. But in that situation, I'm always making a guy pay to hit his hand. Maybe he chooses to play J8 to your raise anyway...but if he held 72 and the flop came K72, this would be a total disaster. The difference between 3rd and 2nd is always substantial, so I'd go off the "better to win a small pot than lose a big one" philosophy and make someone pay to beat my AK. If you pick up a small pot there, you're keeping pressure on the other small stack to stick around in the tournament.

  4. I totally agree with Graps. The only thing that I would add is that given the probably large difference in 2nd place and 3rd place money your immediate goal should not be to trap the large stack who can bust you but to beat the other short stack for 2nd place. That being said just take this hand down preflop; don't get too cute with it
