  1. Spent a few minutes reviewing hands from a deepstack tonight. These two were the only ones that stood out (out of 160+) that looked even remotely close to bad play... and only because I couldn't get away when I felt I might be beat.

    Comments are appreciated.

    Hand 1

Level 5 (3rd Hour) of a $33 Deepstack on Stars. I've been playing fairly tight, not showing down anything less than premium hands. I have limped a time or two in traffic in LP, folding down when missing the flop, but haven't shown a bluff.

Villian is a fairly TAG player, but has some moves, and isn't afraid to put a loose caller-better on mark. He's lost a couple pots with decent hands to a calling station at seat 8, and is down about 4,000 chips in the last 7 hands.

    The following hand came up:

I've looked at this a couple times, but I don't see how I could've played this better. Outside of the min-raise on the turn (which I did to build the pot), I don't see anything really questionable. I was ahead the whole hand until the river hit, and only then did I fear I was beat, but I couldn't possibly lay it down (right?)

    Hand 2

Level 7 (4th hour), same tourney

Still playing fairly tight and showing only good hands out-of-position, the following hand occurred. Big blind has been fairly active over 50 hands, VPiP of 29%, has shown down KK (PFR-MP), JJ (PFR-LP), AJo (Limp-LP), JTo (4X raise call, SB)

Can I predict the future here, knowing this guy just did the same thing 14 hands ago with virtually the same hand on the small blind? Is it possible I lay this down to an unknown player who's shown no aggression thusfar in the hand when he pushes the turn?

    Comments appreciated, thanks.
  2. 1st hand...there is a potential flush draw so it is possible he's making that play with 2 clubs (although he wasn't this time). I'd say check-raise the flop and push hard on the turn. Since he has a set, he's probably not going to fold and there's no real avoiding this beat.

2nd hand...another one where you can't do anything about it. You're losing to only 2 hands and if he had kings, you would expect to see a re-raise preflop. I honestly don't see how you could avoid this hand either. You mention that you don't know the player...certainly not a hand that you would want to lay down. Both hands are bad luck scenarios and against an unknown player they are only more difficult to handle.
  3. I'm new, and I probably play for much lower stakes than anyone else in the room. But, both seem tough luck

Let's be honest, you flopped the straight, he flopped the set. He is putting you on a high pair more than likely, maybe the draw. I don't think you could have gotten him off the hand. Likely, if you go all in after the flop, he would follow you. I'm rather surprised that he didn't play more agressively, with the straight potentially out there and the flush draw, a lot of things could ruin his hand. Overall, bad luck, neither one of you were going to leave the hand.

2nd, I would just end up repeating MetalGod. Overall, some bad luck. It's like pulling pocket kings when someone pulls pocket aces, you aren't going to fold them pre-flop, just lousy luck. The only saving grace is that it evens out over time.
