It's not as much fun as you might think.

Also @ elusively, there is utility and you're not a pussy for taking that into account, at worse you're slightly risk-averse. -
i was in vegas railing a friend in the venetian deep stacks about 3 years ago. they chopped 32 ways. 23 aint got shit on that.

Edited By: CalBandGreat Oct 16th, 2010 at 01:39 AMI disagree. Probably the most fun I have ever had playing live poker was taking down a $500+ 1 add-on tournament at Hollywood Park with like 50 players when all the old dudes desperately wanted to chop and were berating me about it. I usually say nothing until everyone has aggreed to chop and then I just say politely that I prefer not to chop, so that I can keep stealing chips. But this time the guys were being such a bunch of dickheads and there were all so fucking bad, that I told them that they were pathetic for wanting to chop a 50 person tournament with 9 players left and that I wouldn't even consider chopping with anyone at the final table, even if we get heads up. I was obv the complete bad guy and I ended up getting a rush of hands and knocking everyone out. I remember knocking out the 2nd biggest stack with 4 or 5 left when he got it all in with K10 vs my Kings. He was a total nit, but he hated me so much he was just going to take any hand and try to beat me with it. That was so much fun, being hated for completely silly and embarrassing reasons just doesn't bother me.Originally Posted by skeptix

There probably were a few decent players who were short stacks, but they were getting an awesome deal because they were basically receiving almost the same amount of the big stacks. I remember hearing about the 32 way chop at the Venetian and at least in that one the chip leaders got a lot more than the short stacks. So in this case as long as the top 7 or 8 big stacks were stupid nits, then the deal would probably work because everyone else is getting more then would in a normal chop. But yes it is really funny. -
Live MTTs are too tough too win now. Everyone chops solid.
I would love to be the 1 of 23 telling them all to stuff themselves. -
thats just dumb.
-
I bet that girl in the picture offered to flash all the guys if they take the chop and since they are guys they accepted it.
And I must be the only one but I would have taken the chop. Mainly because I know I am not that good and $10k back on a $400 invest sounds good to me! -
Awesome. How do you agree to be in that picture? What do you tell your friends? How many were left when this was brought up? Awesome...

Funniest shit ever.

Hmm, on a serious note... Maybe they chopped like that for tax considerations? I don't have a clue about the tax laws there, but if for some reason winning more than $x resulted in an IRS tax form, maybe they were all just trying to dodge the papertrail? I think I have heard of such thing at another casino, where the standard practice was to chop at 5 handed or something just so the payouts would be less than the force reportable amount.

pretty sure if i ever cash in a tourney, I wont refuse to make a deal, they will be the ones to say NO because I will make an offer that is just rediculous. In this tourneys case, i will chop but I get 17k and you all do what you want with the rest. See how many of them nits jump on that.

^^
i refused for everyone to pitch 20$ so the 10th place would get $$ since we were 2x 5handed and it was the FT and $$ bubble. I LOLed at them and said no ( i was big stack abusing bubble). The replied with excellent comments like "' if you were short, wouldnt you want to do it??'' to which i replies '' yes , but im not short '' lol? this was a 160$ venetian nightly lol
they hated me so much , the TD had to step in a few times to tell them the decision was taken . once i noticed i got 80% of teh field on tilt going into the FT there was even less of a chance i was gonna give it! haha -

they dont just ask. if the players say to the floor- hey, we've worked out a deal, then the floor makes sure that everyone is really agreeing. They are just confirming the wishes of the field.
this could happen at any casino in the world - blame the players if you think its gross, but not the casino -
This is a joke.........23 ways?
If I'd been there, this wouldn't have happened, best believe that! -
Well I'm pretty sure that they actually did the opposite of that. The casinos have to report anything over $5K, so instead of the top 8 or 9 people having to report their income, now all 23 have to.

I would prob agreed with the chop thinking it was a big level thinking everybody was rly sticking to the joke,..
then after I realized they were for real start laughing, crying, shitting my pants all at the same time whilel declining the chop in every language -
I don't understand all the hatred ITT.
Why does it bother you guys so much if that is what they chose to do? Maybe they were all happy with it, and leave with a very positive experience and therefore a desire to come back and put their money back into the poker economy. So they went to the casino, played some poker, had fun, and made a little $$; wow they should really be ridiculed!!!!
Haters gonna hate I guess - lol internet players. -
I kind of agree with this post... PPL chose to chop and where happy with it.

Althout it makes me LOL about live tournament players and this is exactly showing them why they would never be able to take the pressure those 'damn' i-net kids put on them. Especially when money's at stake.. -
I don't think it actually "bothers" anyone. It just amuses everyone. Idiots are amusing, making fun of idiots is more amusing. Does it actually bother anyone? No, of course not.
