To begin, let me mention that I am trying to open up my game and play hands in ways that I normally wouldn't. I am generally a very tight/aggressive player, and particularly in cash games almost never bluff. I know that this is leaving money on the table in the long run, and am trying to allow myself to grow.

You should have continued your line and fired on the turn as well. If you're trying to fool this guy into thinking you have a medium pair, you need to make it look like you're taking him to valuetown.
