I would definitely fold. The main reason is you are one of the blinds which means you won't be forced to put money into the pot for 9 more hands and the chances are very good that one of the blinds will bust out before then. I know you should play to win but it's not worth to go with the AQ in this position unless you knew you had him absolutely dominated with him having a hand like Ax and even still it may not be worth the risk. Please post what you did.

Easy call for me here as well. Similar thing happened in UB's SCNII to me. I was sb with AJo. Whoisnext was on the button with an above average stack, and i was slightly below average. I bet pot on the button, I instantly pushed. If you fold it would seem you are playing not to lose, instead of to win.
-
keep in mind people....
nowadays a LOT of people overbet monsters from the SB hoping that the bb will THINK its a steal.
The guy could have easily had any pocket pair which makes AQ the underdog
This is a no brainer fold. He has plenty of chips in lieu of the blinds and can pick up a few small pots with position steals in the next few orbits.
Why risk it all here with an unpaired hand.
shit even if the guy had deuces he is behind -
fold it and play on. i think bubble time is a huge time for stealing pots, but even with 15-16 left I dont make this call. you are not in dire risk of going broke and can wait for something better than AQ, clear fold here especially cause its YOUR tournament life on the line. this is not a good spot to get your money in.

60/40 is not a huge edge!
Calling is bad because the only way you can win is if at the showdown your hand is best. I think because you will have position on the next hand and have a medium strength stack you should wait to put your chips in when you have the extra out of having the players behind you (or those that may have limped or made a weak raise pre) fold. -
"the only way you can win is if at the showdown your hand is best. "
VERY NICE OBSERVATION -
fold it as quick as i can, im sure theres a case to be made for folding even kings in this position...

I still say if I need the money I fold Queens.

Is this a practical joke? W/ 2 players with less than 2BB left and on the bubble - CALLING with QQ mean you hate money? Seriously where are the hidden cameras?
What happened anyways?
..LEs -
Les,
With QQ, if your goal is to finish 8th, fold. If your goal is to finish 1st, call.
With AQ this is a close decision, I can definitely see the argument for folding since you're probably not going to be a big favorite, but assuming the payout structure is top-heavy, I probably call. -
i cant believe how many people are saying that this is a good fold. dmkay said is best you are dominated by 4 hands and he could have a billion and yes if u are playing to win this is an easy call. the only way i could understand folding is if u won ur seat and have a small bankroll otherwise this is auto call

Matt
the hand is UNPAIRED...yes its a strong ace but cmon man...even if the guy is making a move with 2/7os ...AQ is only a 60% fav.
he can find a better spot to put all his chips in with. And probably pick up a few uncontested steals with far less risk than betting his wad with stupid fucking AQ the most overplayed hand in NLHE -
I cant believe that this many people are acting like AQo is a monster. Sure only 4 hands dominate it but there are allllllllllllllllot of hands that are even money or 60-40. If the guy flips over 78s its basically a coinflip. Forsure could find a better place to get your money all in than on the bubble with a known trap/trouble hand like AQo

where is the result already? someone needs to wake this kid up.

fold.
could be a race with pp. even if he only has 86 (or any two other live cards) your not a huge favorite. im an advocate of post flop poker persoanlly. but i pitch it in the muck pretty easily...besides i can do what the big stack is doing to me to the other 2 small chip stacks.

Fold against the guy that can take you out, easy call against the shortstacks
-
Easy fold - if it was JJ it would be a completely different issue.
As others have commented, the pair is much stronger against hands like 78s. -
matt, thats what i've been saying as well. all of these posts saying to fold are completely contradictory and the posters themselves clearly don't understand basic tournament (or poker for that matter) strategy.
its such a clear call. to argue that its a fold after saying you're likely a 60:40 favorite is so unbelievably assinine. on top of that, saying that QQ is a fold?!?!?! unbelievable.
you guys don't understand that you don't get very large edges frequently in a tournament. to snub a 60:40 is horrible when you're getting something like 1.2:1....... -
This reminds me of a hand that happened in the Sunday $200 last week. After watching my chip lead vanish to a little above average after 4 orbits of not seeing one pair or close to playable hand, it was folded to me on the button. I think I was down to about 22k, with blinds at 800-1600 with an ante. Since I had to win the tourney to break even on the day, I was playing for first and since 5-5 looked golden after the trash I had seen, I pushed all-in.
The small blind, who had just lost a huge hand, instantly called for about 6k in chips with K-J. Not a bad play on his part since he was very low and needed a double to have any chance.
Then the big blind, who had about exactly the same amount of chips as I did, instantly called with A-K. I was actually glad to see this hands since I was favored, but when the ace fell on the river, I was eliminated.
My point? I like the call with A-K in his position, and I also like the idea to call here with A-Q just about most of the time. When people are pushing, they can be doing it with anything. A-Q is a monster hand in this situation, as the button could have any ace, a decent king, 10-9 or J-10 suited, or a pair. At the worse, I think you are racing, and many many times will be ahead -
Ok guys..wow lots of responces..thanks for all your responces..For those of you that said fold qq or lower, you are wrong in my opinion..we are on the bubble and his all in for 17 k is a major overbet..I would not expect him to push 17 k with AA KK QQ or even AK...Why would he? Well i called all in with my AQo for the bubble. He flips over A 10o--better than i thought he had--
FLOP IS: 7 7 4 J J!!!!!!
We chop and i am very annoyed but very proud that i made the correct call. He was very lucky to get off with half this pot but i survived and went on to take 5th!
Thankf dor your responces! Dont play scared play to win!

Wow, I think there is a HUGE difference between AQ and AK, particularly as that is one of his potential holdings which completely dominates you. I'm in the fold group, and it's got nothing to do with playing to win or playing to cash. This hand just isn't good enough, and you are not desperate yet. Plus, you are going to get to watch a few more hands as you are on the button next.
AQ is a great hand for pushing with in this spot, but not much of a calling hand IMO.
