....Kind of makes me angry. I almost didn't want to post anything about it, but if you're going to let Adam make it public, I guess it's okay.
It's just so obvious that you are favoring yourself and people you play with regularly. Phwap is not better than JohnnyBax, bel0wab0ve, Annette_15, atimos, tsoprano, Roothlus, Rizen, Andy McLeod, or anyone else who has always consistantly won more money than he has.
Granted, I'm not saying just line them all up by their PLB totals, or there would be no point at all to the poll. But don't put yourself 8th when you are 68th in the PLB...this is just making the rankings less accurate. I would never even consider putting myself in the top 100 unless I was in the top 115 in the PLB, and even then I would feel a little slimy for it.
Other than the 1st/2nd people in your top 10, nobody is even in the top 20 on the PLB list. People expect to get rewarded on P5s rankings for putting up big results, and just disregarding their performance and going completely on your own 2 eyes is doing them an injustice. For example, I don't play with Mr. Menlo much. Does that mean someone like JBurleson, who I see play a very solid game almost every day on FTP, should be ranked higher? I don't think so.
Just my 2 cents....did anyone else sort of grunt and groan when they saw his top 10? -
i felt the same way. but i suck at poker
-
im sure that a lot of ppl will think im bias or something b/c aaron had me number 1 (thanks for the props btw) but if every pro poll was just based off the plb then what would the point of a pro poll be.
edit: I just reread your post and saw that you basically have what I said in your post. But, to add on to my post, I think its pretty unfair to criticize his pro poll just because it is against the norm, the whole point of the pro poll is so that the rankings aren't just about who can sit in front of their computer and play the most tournies a day. From what I know of Aaron he truly believes every one in his pro poll is where they belong, and I really doubt that he just put himself in there b/c he is arrogant or self-promoting or anything like that, I guarantee that is where he feels he belongs. -
You picked a really terrible list to use as an example. I play with all of those people way more regularly than Phwap. I know several of them don't even have a significant bankroll. And all but one of those people would be a huge dog to Phwap heads up. I didn't do a ton of research but I'd venture to say I know more about this community and who actually makes money playing poker than 90% of the posters here. The only somewhat legit criticism I've heard is that Ari is ranked too high and isn't playing as well right now as he used to.
-
i actually liked it because it showed that he wasn't going to judge by volume or anything and was going strictly off of who he thought was best.
and if he's confident enough to put himself in the top 10, more power to him. -
I dunno, this makes me feel even worse about it. You have this "infallible" attitude towards your ridiculous rankings, saying the most controversial part is the former #1 you have at #5
And if you play with the list I mentioned more than you play with Phwap, than you should know they are FAR more successful. If you disagree with that, maybe I'm missing something. -
All I know is that I've found Aaron to be an extremely insightful and intelligent kid. I think the pro poll is something that he takes seriously---his choice has been to rank the players that he's most impressed by at the tables. He's allowed to make that decision. There have been people removed from pro-polling in the past because it was clear they had a personal agenda in their rankings. I'm confident from talking to Aaron that he's not of that variety---he doesn't think the way everyone else necessarily does. And I certainly don't think that's a bad thing.

Lets just take PearlJammer for an example. Almost all of his scores lately have been for over $1,000, and theres LOTS of them. You can't argue with results like that, and they should be rewarded by being high up in the poll. Having someone with a PLB total not even in the top 100 ranked as #3, and having PJ outside of the top 10, is not accurate, and IMO, should be changed.
Maybe Phwap is one of the most under-rated players...feel free to put him #1 in a "Most Under-rated" Poll. But there should be some justice for the players with indisputable top 10-15 results.
And volume does does does does mean something. If you can play 4 tournaments at a time with a 40% ROI instead of 2 tournaments at a time with a 50% ROI, then that skill set is more profitable and should also be rewarded (Again, just an example). -
dude you really are not making a very good argument and arent making much sense either. Also FWIW Pearl Jammer plays like every tournament on every site, pretty much every day. I play about 3 a day, like 4 days a week (besides sunday obv). So what im trying to say is that the point of a pro poll is so that people can not just overtake the rankings by playing all day every day. There are a lot of players very high in the plb that I think are mediocre players; the plb isnt everything.
-
U guys talk about roi, Y dont u go check allinstevies roi on stars and tilt. Then come back and tell me how accurate the rankings are. This guy isnt even in the top 100.
-
"if you are outside the top 100 in the PLB, you do not have the credentials to be the 3rd ranked player. Does THAT make sense?"
no it doesn't its just ignorant. -
I honestly want to know why you think that's ignorant. You honestly think that if Phwap jumped 97+ spots to #3 tomorrow, there would be a way to justify it?
He could be the next Phil Ivey, but until you show you can consistantly win more than everyone except TWO PEOPLE online, you should not be ranked number 3. Thats not to say the people who win the most ALWAYS have the highest PLB, which you're obviously right about.
But I don't even think you've even CASHED for as much as a small handful of people have PROFITED with 3,500 PLB points. -
1st off he doesnt have to prove anything to be highly ranked in an individual pro poll, he has clearly proved something to aaron, and that is enough for him, the reason that there is individual pro polls, is that its his pro poll and his opinions, it doesnt matter how many plb points he has.
2nd I dont know if that last comment was directed at me, but if by a "small handful" of people have profited more than me you mean Imper1um (maybe, i dont even know if he has) in tournaments this year than, yea good point. -
No, I'm saying that people like you, Imper1um, and some others have profited for more money in the past year than PHWAP has even cashed for in total.
Look, I have you up high in my pro poll too, I'm not saying anything bad about you being at #1. You play some of the lowest volume of the top 20 and you have some of the biggest cashes.
And I'm definitely not saying Phwap sucks. I bet he would agree that he doesn't belong at #3 though....gotta reward big cashes and consistancy. -
aite well i guess well have to agree to disagree, cuz im going to watch the Liddell fight and it seems as tho we are going in circles. But ill end by saying Im not neccesarily saying i agree with having phwap 3rd (quite frankly I can remember playing with him like 3 times) Im just saying each persons pro poll is gonna reflect their opinions of who belongs where and should not have anything to do with PLB score.
-
dude youre being ridiculous, thats what the pro poll is supposed to be about. not who is the most popular or sitting atop the pokerstars tlb but the players whose game you respect and the ones who give you problems at the table. calling out aaronbeen because phwap isn't well known is nuts and basically goes against the reason for having the poll in the first place.
like pwnasaurus is a great example. most people wouldn't know how good he is unless they play the big tourneys. he doesn't really self promote or have fan boys posting when he wins. plus he's relatively low volume. but he seems to have a formula when he plays, like he will bet his hands the same way with top set of aces and with 9 high. he checks behind on a lot of flops, keeps the pots small and always seems to be in position and control of the hand... i really like the way he plays. to say he doesnt belong in jb's league beacuse he doesn't post on p5s or play everyday is pretty ignorant. -

This is sorta like how sbrugby has way more winnings so far this year at nlhe on FTP than genius28, as can be verified on www.highstakesdb.com, yet many people (including myself) think that genius28 would pwn his soul/life in the long run if they played each other for long enough. The pro poll isn't supposed to be based on the plb, or it would be pointless and there would be no reason to have anything other than strictly just a plb. The pro poll is supposed to give an opportunity for those who are most knowledgeable about online poker players to share who in their opinion is the MOST TALENTED. Whether or not that person put in the effort and dedication to put up better results than everyone isn't the issue, but rather strictly how good they are skill-wise compared to everyone else. Just like I doubt ANYONE would agree that Tuan Le is a better poker player than Phil Ivey just because Tuan Le has a lot more tourney winnings than Phil Ivey. etc
-
that's a sik 4 right there!
-
what's the deal with colson10 and foshio not being candidates?
-
Am I missing something? Isn't the pro poll supposed to be subjective?
-
Are you fucking kidding me AaronBeen? You are actually giving your opinion on the highly opinionated pro-poll (completely based on who each pro thinks are the top players online). Is this a fucking joke? Am I going over-the-top with my sarcasm?
