I get so sick to my stomach every time I read these posts. Definitely feel for you man.
Got both my PS and FT accounts jacked in Sept 08 to the tune of 22K. This was before sites offered RSA tokens and PINs, so once the hacker got my Gmail, I was done for (it really pissed me off when they introduced "extra security features" a year after I was hacked. "RSA Security Token? Gee thanks poker sites! I could've used that A YEAR AGO!!!")
I was refunded for FPP's only and the sites said they couldn't refund cash since it was my email that was compromised and the funds were lost in legit games.
Although I got over it after a week (mentally accepting what happened and coming to terms with it), the experience was so devastating that I ended up taking a full year off poker. Even when I got back into the game, my motivation was still pretty low (hence, my poker playing has been very on/off since).
If you consider that your bankroll partially represents what you've accomplished in poker, then the worst part about this whole experience (at least for me) was the realization that all the hard work, hours, and dedication you poured into the game were suddenly annihilated by some douchebag who wanted to go on a "joyride".
Not that I want to rant on about what happened to me, I just want to say that I definitely emphasize with what you're going through and hope you'll get through it.
Best of luck getting back on your feet. -
there is nothing new to this story....repeat...didnt think it could happen to you eh?
very dumb to assume the FBI would help you....very very very dumb..we do not exsist in this society/economy
lol at no security token
some people have to learn the hard way....lol at you trying to teach people....when so many tried to teach you...the very same thing -
Sorry that this happened to you but am thankful for the contribution to the community despite your circumstance. It is amazing when people can find the positive in as negative situation, and if you prevent just one person from getting hacked, which seems likely if everyone follows your advice, this post is a positive. Good luck to you in the future.

Any extra security precautions you can take, especially since you play at the higher stakes, should be done. i mean, it's sort of a longshot but if a "friend" or someone were to get their hands on your RSA tokens, then you're screwed.

mostly because it came w/ temporary codes that will work 1 time each in case u misplace ur token, i misplace my keys a lot and it would suck if i cant get into FT for a week or two while waiting for their support to respond, also looking at the stars one u cant tell what it's for while ft's has a gey logo on it, and the stars one arrived a lot faster too, the only good thing about FT is the battery prolly lasts longer
-
sorry for op misfortune but really how can you not have a token this is completely absurd. i don't think a token should be free though, just buy the damn thing and have peace of mind.

And what was that nonsense about not trusting law-enforcement? Talk about going off on a tangent. It would be nice if the US govt gave a shit about protecting online poker but it doesn't; so of course LEO won't have any resources in investigating hacked accts. Plus if the hacker resides outside of the US, there wouldn't be anything they could do about it.
I'm really not trying to be a jerk and I do empathize with your financial loss. But c'mon, the fault lies upon the hacker, you, poker site and maybe gmail. -
Thanks for the insight you fucking POS

Unfortunately, somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% of all Identity theft in the USA goes unpunished, and a lot of times when the culprit has been apprehended. Police know this and have too much to do already which is one reason they don't pursue these types of crimes very heartily. I agree that it's BS, but it's the way it is. Thanks for posting this and I hope that a lot of players in the community (even the random donks like myself) learn from your misfortune.
Best of luck in the future.

Im not surprised at all by the FBI not helping out. I had a salesperson sell a job, bill it under his own name instead of through my office and pocket the 60k. The states attorney then informed me this was a "civil" matter and not criminal. Fuck them. He stole my fucking $!!!Thats fucking bullshit. A crime is a crime. FBI should help you, but they wont because they are lazy and only go after "high" priority crimes.

So sick. Hopefully you get everything straightened out.
When I hit my FTOPS score last year Full Tilt did not have the token, and because of this I was paranoid and felt very vulnerable.
Everyone that has meaningful money online is retarded not to invest in an RSA token. It is everything as advertised, and gives you peace of mind. I have no idea why smart people who invest alot in the game don't take this measure. Get a token people -
This clown should be banned.

Dude you didn't get hacked you were careless.
End of Story -
I hope you can get this all figured out bro and catch the fucker who joyrided you..For 1 thats unethical, 2. could it have maybe been an insider? close friend of some sort? 3. Maybe you should check out your so called group of " friends" before ever dealing with the game like this again. I hope you get it back man, that Must feel horrific/stress ever..

Fuck pokerstars.
So sorry to hear this happened to you my brother. I really hope you can get back to your normal self soon.
and fuck the police to. Esp the FEDS! -
pretty sure star's RSA makes you input a 4digit memorized passcode before the current code given on the RSA token itself. On ftp, at least how mine is, you login and just input the code given on the security key, there is no '3rd' level of security.
In essence, i could hypothetically tell you my stars password and you have my key but be unable to login, on ftp this isn't the case. Not too sure if my key is old and they do it diff now on ftp, but stars technically has stronger security the way mine's set up. -
you stupid bitch shut the fuck up

I also feel for you on the whole law enforcement thing. Not there to protect and serve but to generate revenue.
And lastly for the people dealing with the RSA tokens (and FTPs system). These are good but not totally safe. If anyone has a keylogger or anything similar on your machine then no token is going to stop them. The best way to have security:
1) Random email only used for your poker site. Create a different email for each site. Use random generators to create passwords and write them down on paper.
2) Install some type of antivirus (kaparsky, node32) avg or norton are garbage 4real.
3) The less you give out about yourself personally the better off you are. A facebook/myspace account can give a hacker A LOT of information.
4) Wired >>>>> wireless. I mean they would have to know where you live but some people are willing to go far. Packet sniffers are too easy to use and any wireless encryption can be hacked.
5) Watch out for the shit you download off of your emails. Even images can contain self running programs that can monitor your shit and send info back to the person who wants it. -
That's pretty ill....
Just stay positive and surprisingly for someone ranked 68th you only had 30k in your pokerstars account. I honestly expected like around 300k or something for top mtt players idk.... So it could have been worst.. You still got your health and now you learned a valuable lesson and when you get this situation situated I'm sure you can grind back 30k in no time (ranked in top 100 mtt afterall). You will get your stolen money back 10 fold with a huge score, believe it.
Karma will be knocking on that hacker's door real soon. -
By the way, you don't know what an RSA token is.
