If you happen to stumble accross this post, please, I need your input...

I've been playing poker for a long time now but it has been usually straightforward poker. Whenever I play tournaments, I usually fold myself up to the money bubble if I make it, and then bust out shortly after that. I've read in some forums that accumulating chips late in the tourney is the way to go since blinds are worthwile so you should tighten up at the beginning. In another forum that I read, it said that it was better to be aggressive early since the blinds are not that high and u could see alot of flops... Anyways, the point is that everyday I see players hit 4,5, and 6-digit scores repeatively while I can't manage to get a 3 digit score even if my life depended on it.

So please, if you've had any experience at all hitting at least a 4 digit score, please give me some advice or point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it...
  2. getting a 4 digit score isn't that hard. volume is key.

  3. i am not sure i am qualified to give advice but I will try.....you have to stop trying to squeeze into the money, this is a spot to get a few chips, as you may hve notice not too many people have a higher itm% than say 25% so you have to go deep when you can to be profitable. Take a few more shots and dont sweat the bubble once you get a big stack you will notice the players dissappear a lot faaster (cuz your not watching) and before you know it your deeeep gl
  4. You too, young grasshopper, will realize that after playing 3 hrs on a 4 buck buy in, that cashing for 5 bucks will not change your life. Therefore, with volume and experience, you will say fk you money bubbles and start raising trash every other hand. Or, just watch your table more and raise on the tight people. You dont' have to get too carried away with 3betting because ppl don't like to fold. Playing abc will work well, but open up ur game a little bit in late position.
  5. Stop worrying about the bubble and only worry about the win. You'll see that you cash less often but make much more money. Don't be afraid to push people around at the money bubble or FT bubble if you notice people at your table are really tight and will fold to 3bets often. Switching gears is paramount, realize how your table plays and play the opposite. I've had times where I triple up without a showdown with 12-13 people left because everyone is so uptight about hitting the FT. You're going to bust more often when going for the win and will probably see negative effects initially when you change your play, but when you bank a win, its worth 100 or more min-cashes, so it's damn worth it.
  6. do this: when you were gonna just call, raise. see how it works out.
  7. I'll give you this FWIW.

1/ Play within your bankroll, if you only got $50 then only play $1-$2 MTT. If nothing else you get a ton of experience playing in 1000+ people tournies.

2/ Play tight early, but mix it up with sets and Sooted connectors WHEN you have great implied odds. Its a people game late, but its a card game early.

3/Pick your targets, learn to lay down big hands to bigger hands. (sets on a str8t board, etc.)

4/Play the opposite of the table, if you have guys beating their chests re-raising every hand then play tight, and visa versa.

5/Make your bets mean something, try to tell a story with your bets.

6/Volume, like everyone will tell you, you're only going to cash in 1 out 5 MTT, so play as many as you can and make the most out of your cashes. You might get knocked out of 5-7 tournies, but then go deep in one and make all your $ back plus more.

7/ Last but definitely not least, patience. Sometime you might only play 1-2 hands in an hour, stay patient and wait for your opportunities.
  8. volume for sure. Try playing 6 tables at once (even this is not considered that much volume these days) and see how that works out.

Basically to accumulate you need too always look around the table for weakness then exploit it. You have to do things that make sense in poker like If he limps, you raise. He shows weakness you show aggression and take down the pot uncontested.

Say you see a guy who open raises from early position then folds to a 3bet. Now you know he's raising light. Next time you're in position try 3betting his open raise (if you have the stack to do so) w/ ATC and cbetting most flops if he calls. Just try new things where you're not necessarily playing you're cards but more your opponent.

But tbch w/ you, poker takes sooo much experience. You just have to see shit play out numerous times before you finally get a good feel on what you should be doing. Remember too, nobody who is sick at poker got it overnight. it prolly took them years and thousands of tournies for them to figure out what to do. thing is, they too are still wrong plenty of times after seeing so many hands.
