This was at a live cash game last night. Playing 1/2 Omaha HI.
I'm in sb with AcAs3sQs
First 4 guys limp in, I call the big blind as well. There is 12 dollars in the pot and Big Blind pots making it 12 more to go.
3 ppl call before me..
So it comes up to me with a guy all in, 3 callers, and 60 dollars in the pot..
DO I call here??
I figured I had a strong hand with aces and one suited.. And i wanted to isolate against the ALL in Guy. SO i pot it....
for about 72 more..
Instead I get called by AhKh88 and 3364 ... Flop comes all hearts, andddd I'm done.
Was it the right play? -
Well, I think your play was better than the call by AK88, anyway. You had a suit, and the Q to provide a little bit of a straight opportunity. But you were basically playing naked AA, so I definitely think you should have made a pot-sized raise immediately. If/when the BB re-pots it, I'd be surprised if you get those other callers and you get down to heads-up, where you always want to be in PLO.

Aces in omaha don't suck, maybe they do in a 4/5 way pot. Just like they do in holdem. Here you should re-raise over the top and pot it like you done, trying to isolate. If 3 people call, hard luck, you need a good flop. But playing aces in a big pot I would try to isolate just like you do in this situation, just unlucky I think you were here. Just keep playing them that was when someone raises and usually you will get it heads up. Urqo

You got your money in with the best of it, and that's all you can do. If you could make that play a thousand times I would gladly back you in doing so, and in fact any wise player would back you in doing it just once because you are ahead when the money goes in. The hands run so close in Omaha that you may only win this confrontation 35% of the itme, but that's still making good money. Don't second guess the hand because you lost, just keep playing. If you aren't going to get all your chips in with AA then your opponents will always be able to bully you because no hand will be good enough to play for all your chips.

When I see a pot being built like that, I usually like to go with a hand like 3568 or 5789, as opposed to starting with a pair. It is much easier to improve your hand when you start with 4 live cards than it is for AA to improve.
AAQ3 is a very strong hand when you can get the pot heads up and allin preflop. I don't really see anything wrong with your play here. The AK88 call is horrible though as he should know you probably have AA, and he either has to catch 2 of 3 kings or 1 of 2 8's or make a flush which is a long shot when that is all you have preflop. -
Thanks for the responses. As you can tell, these players I play with are very loose and careless when it comes to money.
The guy holding AK88 basically told me that even if I show AAxx he won't be muscled around and will see a flop regardless. The 2nd guy that called the re-pot with 3364 justified it because he had "low cards".. But I don't think he knows what he is doing.
It was a failed isolation attempt. That pretty much sums it up. I am not discouraged as much, knowing I was the clear favorite.
I guess that means I should keep doing this. Eventually the odds will hit him in the face. =)
