I have been looking at the final table rates of all the top players and I have noticed one common link, all seem to do extremely well in the rebuy tournaments and most of their cashes are in rebuy tournaments.
I have read up on rebuy strategy, but I never seem to do well in the rebuy tournaments, obviously my performance in the first hour or so is the reason for this, I am willing to have 6-10 rebuys assuming I join the tournament, but I have yet to do well..
Although there are different ways of going about the first hour, what are methods you have found to be successful ? Is there a difference in the way you approach a $10 and a $30 rebuy during the rebuy period ?
Thanks in advance, hopefully this is bring about some helpful discussion, because I do not think there is enough information available on strategy for rebuy tournaments. -
I'll critique your 1st hour of one if you want and give you some tips. Send me PM with IM and I'll IM you.

6-10 rebuys??! no way, thats too much, i normally just rebuy at the begining and then just respect that people are crazy so just push with a good hand preflop say 99-AA, AK....more than liekly you'll get a call, if i lose my stack im only rebuying 2 times to get bk to 3k then if i lose that, im done

I typically do well in rebuy tournaments. I like to see a LOT of flops in the first half hour. I am l looking to flop a monster and double up. Unless I hit the flop hard I am not paying much to see the turn. You don't need 6-10 buy ins to to very well. Just pick your spots well. Don't stick all your money in with garbage, but don't be afraid to coin flip for a big pot.
For example- if I am on the button and there are 5 callers I am going to call with any 2 cards.
I will also call raises early on knowing I am behind, but I will get paid off if I hit big.
I won't rebuy(again-since I get the extra 1500 right away) after the first 1/2 hour or so. I find it's not worth it to try to play catch up. I'm sure other players would, but that is just my preference. -
I will try that approach, but I think my problem is that in rebuy tourneys I am very impatient (because I play one at a time) and because the nature of the tournaments I want to get alot of money very quickly. I will try to see more flops cheaply with decent drawing hands and post my results..

For the first 1/2 hour of the rebuy period I try to see pretty much every flop and then get all in when I flop a good hand or a draw. If I lose I double rebuy every time. If I'm not making any progress after the first 1/2 hour, I'll start moving in preflop with any reasonable hand. This can get expensive, but I almost always have a nice stack after the rebuy period.
