Well, not sure how many players have the same intrests as me, but I will give it a shot.
Now since there is no advertising at the WSOP for stars, this should allow them to now run sattelites to the smaller events IMO. They dont have to worry about IF one of their players will go deep or maybe even win the main event, since they cant advertise anyhow.
If anyone shares my sentiments, go ahead and drop a line in this thread if you dont mind.
Hopefully some of the other sites would do the same, if the advertising factor is irrelevant, and give some of their lower limit customers a chance to play in the WSOP. -
sounds goot if ya got the money to satty in with. :)
-
I think the issue is bigger than if they will run sats to the lower buy in events. I am a bit more disturbed by the fact that Harrahs finds it important to say they will not allow advertisment from a legitimate company like stars or FT.
This is complete fucking bullshit. And the online community needs to understand just how dangerous of an assualt this is.
"Harrah's must follow the guidance of federal law and statement gaming regulators in conducting its business... Harrahs' position does not affect advertising that may or may not be carried by media companies that cover the event, as they aren't subject to the same gaming-regulatory requirements as Harrah's is."
What the hell is that. Who came to Harrah's and said "You know what you can't allow Stars and FT to advertise through your event" NOBODY. They made this choice. What 'regulatory requirements' are there that says who and who can't advertise with Harrahs.
Gosh...It sure seems that Harrahs does not value the relationship they have with the partner companies that made their event what it is today.
This is a slap in the face. And another reason why things like "advisory boards" are attempting to kill online poker. -
Yes this is bullshit, but I highly doubt they will change their mind.
In the mean time, I would like to win some damn sattelites to the smaller events. pokerstars has the best software(excluding their rng), the most players, and its the easiest site to navigate.
I wouldnt even mind if it was a little more juice to play satts to the smaller events. The amount of dead money in the low buyin satts on stars is just awsome.
However the amount of dead money in the $475 or whatever it is for the satts to the main event is significantly less. -
Harrah's has to abide by federal regulations. I found the article very encouraging. If I understand it correctly, stars and Tilt can still run commercials and the players can still wear .net clothing. That's a good thing.
-
At this point, a hat can just say "stars" on it, and people will at least know where the player came from through word of mouth.
I would DEFINITELY like some sattellites to the smaller events. -
Anyone who thinks that Harrahs LIKES doing this is insane. I imagine their legal department had to have a very good feeling that they could be putting themselves at risk. They are missing out on literally MILLIONS of dollars in lost revenue. Just sick.
-
I think you need to look at the bigger picture for Harrah's.Their interests do not lie in protecting online poker sites. Their interests lie in protecting their investments. Right now the laws regarding online gaming are shady at best.
IfI was Harrah's there is no way I would jepordize my gaming liscences in any way. I would definitely error on the side of caution. Do you have any idea how much money Harrah's makes outside of poker? That revenue is their first priority. Not protecting the rights of online poker players. -
LEEEEEE come on man..

Its an interesting issue legally. There are well developed First Amendment restirctions on what the gov. can do to limit gambling advertisment. The courts have made it clear that even though a gov. can outlaw gambling, it cannot outlaw SPEECH (ie advertisments) about gambling. So there would be a ugly fight if the gov. tried to limit a TV station from running a FT or stars ad. Harrah's is concerned that the gov. won't outright deny them the right to run the ads but will put pressure on them by threatening thier gambling licence with some sort of administrative action. But I still think they have some First Amendment protection here. If Harrah's had any SAC, they would let the gov. come and fight it tooth and nail in the courts. It may not be worth it economically in the short run, but Harrah's should think about the long term effects on the WSOP franchise if the governemnt is allowed to continue to eat away at the right to play poker and spend a little money protecting some of those rights.
-
F harrahs.
Move all wsop events to the isle of man and antigua.
rank leeeee. -
^^^^^^Best idea yet!!!
-
Harrahs will take buy-ins from players that qualified on stars/FTP/etc. (Of course, as long as they meet the new buy-in rules where the money does not come directly from the poker site.) And with those buy-ins, Harrahs will collect the tourney fee.
Fair enough.
Harrah's will sell the broadcast rights for the WSOP to ESPN, knowing that Stars/FTP/etc. pay the advertising dollars that fund that purchase. Harrahs will not give a dime of that revenue to the people that actually appear on the ESPN WSOP coverage.
Fair enough.
Harrahs will not allow Stars/FTP/etc. to put branded clothing on players because there is no Harrahs-related fee involved.
Is that fair?
I understand if Harrahs doesn't want to be associated with "illegal" poker sites. If that is the case, then Harrahs should eliminate all associations with the sites. Don't take their money in the form of buy-ins or advertising funded broadcast rights either. -
Fair? Who ever said anything about being fair? Harrah's is a business and they are going to do what is best for them. They have no obligation to be fair in this situation. They own the WSOP. They can run it however they choose to. If they run it like shit and everyone bails....so what?
I will reiterate this again, Harrahs could give a rats ass about poker. Compared to its other forms of income poker is nothing. The only reason casino's even deal poker is to get gamblers to come in and play other games. They could care even less about protecting online poker site's and or online poker player's rights.
There is no way Harrah's is going to do anything REMOTELY close to jepordizing their liscence. There is no way Harrah's is going to do anything that would cause or could cause a legal battle over this. It has nothing to do with having a sack...It has to do with priorities within a multi billion dollar business. -
Amen!
Someone international needs to arrange a new WSOP. Maybe the Super Bowl of Poker (SBOP) and hold it outside the US. All the online sites can hold satellites to it, all the pros would go to it. Before long it'll become the new event to crown the world champion regardless of what the WSOP in the US is doing.
The thing that absolutely boggles my mind is that our retarded government officials are more worried about online poker and gay marriage than the staggering deficit and our colossal waste of lives and tax dollars in Iraq. -
ESPN and NBC still run all kinds of Ultimate Bet and Full Tilt and Poker stars commercials all the fucking time. ESPN and NBC are telling the DOJ to go fuck themselves, yet Harrah's is capitulating to the Nazi DOJ tactics.....fuck Harrah's.....they are either nutless eunichs or they have a secret hidden agenda......
-
There's a lot of misinformation in here guys.
First, the Nevada Gaming Commission is the one in the past who has told Harrahs they can not accept .com advertising. I'm pretty sure it's pressure from the Nevada Gaming Commission that is also putting pressure on Harrahs regarding .net
Also, pokerstars and others not being able to buy in players has been the rule for several years, this is nothing new.
If the DOJ comes after ESPN, ESPN can just pay a fine and move on.
If Harrahs goes completely against the Nevada Gaming Commission, they could lose their license.....over something that doesn't make them much money in the grand scheme of things.
I think Harrahs is going to put together a pretty good event given the circumstances. Give them a break.
And the political contributions to Frist...come on, give me a break. You think $60k given to Frist is what it takes to get online gaming banned? lol, yeah right. What about the fact that Bill First was the Majority Leader of the Senate and was talking about running for President? Pretty good guy to have on your side, don't you think? Giving him money would be a good idea.
So one of the major casinos wants online gaming banned.......so they give $60k to Frist to get it done????? Hilarious. Maybe MGM should have given $65k to someone else to keep it legal...lol
Getting things done in DC takes hundreds of thousands of dollars guys. -
i'm with you in spirit, as i can't stand harrah's either, but saying this is their choice is ignorant. this IS nevada gaming regulation. NOT something harrah's chose to do.
