I am a winning player in live games. I play cash games (mostly 5-10 NL) and tournaments live, and I have been very successful with a very healthy profit. I am unsuccessful online. I find myself making plays or making calls online i would never make live. Any advice how to bring it all together?
-
Id say Drop Down a Level. Dont play 5/10 NL online. Play 3 Tables of 1/2 or 2/4. And its the same game. Do the same things you do online that you do live.

AFink is right.
I would go further though.
1/2 online games are MUCH tougher than 5/10 live games. -
Personally, I find live games tend to be much softer than internet games. So I guess my advice would be to continue killing your live games. Why bother trying to grind out a profit online when your already successful live? If you follow Fink's advice, you would need to multi-table 5-7 1/2 games to obtain a profit similar to your live 5/10 game....this is where I would crumble. Anything over 3 tables for me is just too much. Hope everything works out for you.

I wouldnt take any advice from me. Unless its backed up by someone like Jenn. I think your numbers are a bit off there. Only because you see up to 3 times as many hands online as you do live. 3 Tabling 2/4 Fast or 6 Max should get you to the same type of numbers as 5/10 live.

10/20 and 5/10 hu and 6max on FTP.

1 - Online players are much better in general
2 - Online players bluff way too often
3 - You need more patience and discipline online to wait for good spots
4 - Play solid and keep making good decisions
5 - You should try playing only 1 table until you get comfortable - You may be losing focus online and getting distracted. -
I think you are making bad calls because your poker antennae are weak. You aren't used to operating "in the dark" as yet. This lack of sensitivity is heightened because the $5/$10 on-line players aren't going to be the same demographic as your brick-and-mortar players.
For one thing, you've got kids ~ many too young to show their face in a casino, who will always be part of any table you play at on-line. For another, you've got "home-grown" players who play poker with no rhyme or reason. They just stumbled into the on-line poker scene, became addicted and will be here to the bitter end. The vast majority of these players are complete tools, but they play so crazily you will never have a clue what hand they're holding. These players are lousy of course, but it's amazing how much damage they can inflict when they're running good.
Another difference is the medication level. Yes, you have drunks at live poker tables, but on-line you've got people scarfing up basket loads of every legal and illegal substance known to man. Again, these folks are very unpredictable because, let's face it, even THEY don't know what they're going to do!
As Worldclass said, bluffing on-line is way more prevalent than live. You get a lot more "action" on-line because nobody can see you donk off your stack on a draw.
In on-line poker, the way people bet ~ how quickly, how much, from what position ~ are about the only way you can get a read, and the subtle changes in what are pretty routine patterns are all you have to go on. In short, this on-line chit is very difficult and you really have to put the hours in to get acclimated. Hope this helps. -
Let me get this. You are successful live but suck online. Answer=PLAY LIVE and screw online. Is online really worht it now anyway.

This post is gonna seem rude and derogatory, but I am just trying to be as brutally honest as possible. The reason you are not succeeding online is probably b/c you are not good enough. There are some very very good players playing 5/10 nl online. To be honest, I know people who could beat 5/10 live who barely even know how to play, live players suck, online players dont, that simple.
-
Online players play way more hands and I am going to say that they are better all around players. I always see the pros on tv say ya internet players are good but the pros are better I think online players see more hands and will overcome some of the pros that are playing now. Drop down a level or 2 and then your losses won't hurt so bad.. gl
