Been on a break from the game for a number of reasons. Played in a local tourney yesterday that I've had some success in before.Have finished first twice in 8 times playing, and cashed on two others. A very critical hand is posted below.
$100 buy in.27 players.
We started with 4k,and are now at $100/$200 soon to be $200/$400. I am on the bb with about $4000 after posting. First to act limps, he has alot of chips and although I've never played with him,he appears solid, talks as if he plays alot. Tight/solid player on button calls..Rookie on small blind completes. I am dealt 10 / 5 off suit and tap the table. To this point,I've won about 4 pots, showing down good, winning hands on each one.
Flop is J
- 2
- 2
Small blind checks to me.. My instincts tell me I can represent the 2 here. I throw out a weak $300 bet hoping this appears strong. To my shugrin,UTG reraises me to $800. Button, and small blind quickly fold, and this all seems a bit fishy. He surely doesn't have a 2.. Pocket Jacks?possible, but not likely.A/J?? maybe..or the flush draw?
In any event,my read tells me that he wants to know where he's at by re-raising me.I also thought this guy was solid enough to lay down a Jack or less if I come over the top. I reraise $1200 on top of the $500.. He mulls this over and makes the call.
I now decide to waive the white flag here thinking I'll have some FE to push on the blinds and maybe I can pick another spot.(In hindsight,This was probably a mistake)
We strangly check the hand down, and he shows down pocket 7's..
I'm sure I could've played this hand better. I feel he played it pretty horrible and most good players would have at least put me on a flush draw with 2 overs against a 7-7.
I end up shoving for my final $2k later with 4/4 and lose a race with A/K.
As the post is titled, any thoughts would be appreciated. -
your min-raise on his reraise is so small it has to be called. His re-raise on the flop puts you in a shitty spot. You should have folded there if your not going to continue with your instinct. You knew he didn't have a 2, so may as well continue with your read and rep the two yourself.
To continue, you could have called his reraise, and then lead the turn to continue representing your two, OR just shoved on his re-raise on the flop. -
Thanks,pk..
I think you may have misread my post.. I called his $500 raise, and reraised another $1200..
I don't know if this would change your thoughts on this hand. -
Check fold for me on this one.
