  1. Hi All, I would like some feedback concearning fast tracking the low and mid level sng's.

    Hypathetical situation:
You just get out of 3 years or prison. 3 years you play jailhouse poker for smokes, and do decent, but you spend most of your time preparing for poker after prison as the library has got sklansky/harrington/brunson books, aswell as flopturnriver and pocketfives articles.
You get out and hit the ground running, but it takes a bit for your A-Game Practical to catchup to the A-Game Theoratical. You need to build a $100 bankroll up to $1K+ via 1-Table SNG's, starting @ the $5.50's.

    Bankroll Before Buy-in
    $0.00-$27.50 - Plan B.
    $27.51-$165 - $5.50
    $166-$253 - $11
    $254-$429 - $22
    $430-$627 - $33
    $627-$1K - $55
    Stay @ $55 for a while and start funding MTT's ($3+R).
Drop to the $22's and multitable maybe.

Has anyone had any success with fasttracking?
I am of the theory that $22s-$55's play similar enough that steadily climbing up and down trying to breakthrough will not affect the game strategy much.
I think I am more motivated to play better knowing that playing great poker for 4 or 5 sngs straight might make it so I can move up a level for even just a couple shots.
    Any constructive comments out there?
  2. Personally, I would want my bankroll higher than $1k to start playing $55 SNGs... If you have a bad run, you can easily lose 1/3-1/2 your bankroll in a day or less. That isnt safe.
  3. Thanks for the response.
I think I will move between 33 and 55 and even between 109 and 55 several times.
I don't expect to automatically keep moving up all the time, and I think will be more than willing to move down when the plan tells me to. We'll have to see. My goal is to be able to play enough 55's that I can feel comfortable going back to large field mtt's (low buyin - $3+R).

  4. After looking at this again, I have to remember that you're only playing one SnG at a time, so maybe 20 buy-ins isn't all that shabby. Your bankroll #'s for $33's & $55's is too low, in my opinion.

1-tabling is NUTS... i don't see how anyone can do it.

"Taking shots" is def. NOT the fundamental basis of Sit & Go play (or any type of poker, for that matter). BEST OF LUCK to you... it's possible :)

  5. thanks,
I will be at the $5.50's for a while yet, and I may not do anything like this, but, it is something I will be considering over the next few weeks. Might make for an interesting winter!

  6. If you play well, then yes, do this, try to dodge variance, and if you get up to 1k then lose it all on a downswing, just put in another $100 and have the humility to start at $5 again. If you can beat all the games you are playing, I think an aggressive strategy like this is fine, cause you're right, it's not like the slightly higher levels of this are that much harder than the levels they are one above.
  7. I would start with the $6.50 turbos and move to the $16 turbos when
I had $200 (and drop back down to the $6.50's if my roll dropped to
$150 again). Then, assuming a decent avg roi (say 15%), you can
build your roll into $1k in just a few weeks without ever having to move
up in buy-in levels. I did just that starting with $150, but I started
directly with the $16 turbos. I turned $150 into $1k in about 1 month
just playing one table at a time for a few hours in the evenings
(more on the weekends). And that was $1k even after taking out over
$300 of my profits (no bonuses involved). But you can also be a
good player and go bust this way too. I had some bad streaks along
the way that if they had occured in the beginning would have wiped me out.
  8. The ruin of many great poker player has been playing above their bankroll.

    You should proceed with caution.
