To anyone that has my aim, my accounts been hacked by whoever hacked hattricks old aim. I'm not sure how he did it, he was asking for my email address and I thought it was kind of wierd but didn't see how him having my email address could do anything. Anyway, to anyone that has my aim, block me. Sighhh.

I've never been hacked before and really don't know who to contact. I also don't know how the hacker did it. I'm on a MAC, on a secured network etc. The pw I used is a common pw that I've used for other things too but I'm just going to switch pws everywhere now. All my accounts have rsa's though. Bah, I feel dumb.

Just FYI all chat protocols are transferred in clear text unless otherwise noted. Never send PII or sensitive information over unsecure medium or it can be sniffed super easily. Even some encrypted information can be sniffed and decrypted if the algorithm uses weak XOR's or weak symmetric encryption. Social Engineering is the biggee so be sure you know who your giving your info to. A lot of guys get hacked because they're too trusting. Let me know if you all need help hardening your systems and I'll be happy to give a few pointers.

can anyone go over how this happens with aim and what we can do to stop it? I use aim, albeit a different AIM name then poker names, but have gotten wierd IMs like "hey im on my friends accoutn but IM me at "xxxxxxx"" from randoms - I just insta block them but dont know how to be 100% safe
-
there is an option in AIM where you can block all users from messaging you at all if they aren't on your buddy list... I've always done this and it prevents those keylogging POSs from having a prayer afaik

Just a guess as I'm not up to date on PCs as I used to be, but I would assume he has reset your password on the account using the 'Forgot your Password' feature and most likely not hacked into it through your Mac or had anything to do in your computer itself. Generally, myself included, people used to use easier to guess security questions like 'What school did I go to'? etc when they made the account years ago.
You may be able to reset it with this link if they haven't changed your security question:

Ape sorry to hear this, hate when one of the good guys get taking advantage of....DEF another reason to have security keys!!1
pretty much hope all scumbag hackers die...like literally. -
ape, I have a Mac on a secured network too, I was hacked on AIM back in November. The most common way someone's AIM get's hacked is the answer to their security question is common knowledge if you do a little research. Mine on my old AIM was what high school did you attend, lol. Ape you won't get your AIM back, make a new one with an absolutely ridiculous answer to your security question.

the security question thing is definitely super vulnerable. i think a good strategy is to have a second "password" regardless of what question you choose. ie. if it asks what school you went to, you can just have your answer be like TLRturboluckbox and doubt a person using this method will get it. just make sure you remember it heh

Two people have sent this jerk moneygrams in the philippines. I don't know if there is anything that can be done with this info but I'm going to post it anyway. Anyone have any idea how to go about getting an aim account shutdown?
