How do u or what methods do u use to keep your spirits and motivation up to play a full set of tourneys day in and day out?
To me donkaments are the easiest way to make money since to me its without ? that more bad players plays tournaments than u can find in cash games...I usually play $20-50 mtts and the occasional $100 f/o and $200 sunday million but playing tourneys seem like much more of a grind to me than playing cash games. When i decide to play a full slate of tourneys for the day I usually start at 11 am and enter as many as i can and then maybe take a siesta from 4-7 ish depending on how deep i get and at what time i start a tourney and then try and play another set from 8-till whenever i bust out of my last reg. tourney usually starting at midnight or 1 am...
Its not the hours that get to me persay as i enjoy playing poker and I feel like I get better throughout the day as i play more tournaments interms of getting into a zone and making correct decisions BUT the time constraints can get to me as one of the main reasons i love poker is the freedom it gives u but playing tournaments seems to take that freedom away as why register for a tournament if your not prepared to spend 6 +/- hours to win the damn thing....I can't help but feel at times somewhat claustrophobic at the time contraints and i would be naive to think that during some tournaments I let this feeling neg. affect my results in said tournament.
The other more prevalent factor for me is grind factor for making $$$$$. I tend to view my play in terms of months. In cash games your results are somewhat instant in the short term whether it be good or bad, if im running bad/playing bad then usually after 3 weeks or a month that will be real apparent for that monthly result. Same thing if im on a heater. BUT with tournaments who knows how your monthly/ or weekly(if u think even more short term) results are going to be until the last day of that month ends. I've experienced where I did really well on the 4th week or even the last two/day of the month and took down a tourney or FT'd one which brought me into the black for the month BUT I find i have a lot more emotional stability regarding tournaments when I get an early positive result and then i feel like im on a freeroll the rest of the month.
I know this might be a big leak but its how i feel so wondering if others deal with the same issues and/or do anyone have any special techniques to cope with these issues.
CLIFF NOTES:
---I feel like playing tourneys is much much more of a grind than cash games b/c of the time contraint factor(lack of freedom... when i play cash games i can leave/ play whenever i damn feel like) and the randomness of short term results (u never know when your next big cash will come or how long a dry spell might last)
---I feel like i can't just play exclusively cash games b/c A) I'm not that good at cash games where i feel I can pass up the profitability that donkaments provide B) the competition is so so so much weaker in tourneys than it is in cash games
---How do tourney grinders help cope/deal with issues outlined in point #1 so that it isn't a leak in their game as I feel like its a leak/maybe a big leak? in my tournament game
