"Honestly, online for me is all about the money. I dont play online to accomplish things. I dont care about rankings and I think people that spend a lot of time trying to become highly ranked are leaving a ton of money on the table. Most of the ranked players on Pocket Fives are mediocre at best and half of them are making less money a year than a $1-$2 NL grinder."
How much truth is there to this? -
a lot, as i would assume only a handful of online players make more than the avg winning player at 1/2. that said i prefer tourneys online as do those who r ranked on this site. just like the avg 1/2 grinder prefers cash to MTTs.
-
a lot of 1/2 grinders make like 125/hr and up
-
Online mtts are boring and frustrating, cash is boring and well, boring, but ur pulling in solid money not having to do a whole lot. 1/2 cash players def make more than mtt players...everyone knows ppl play mtts because there is a finish line. But agreed.
-
And because its much easier to run hundreds of thousands of dollars > expectation in MTTs. But yes Amak is completely right and this has been said by many people for a long time.
-
lol i usually dont post much, but had to cause this thread is retarded, hes not dissing anyone, hes just stating the facts most 1/2 grinders make more than mtt grinders money wise
-
This too...almost depressing to think I'm sub par to guys in the top 100-200 and look up stats and see that their profit is almost zilch compared to their winnings, and ROI is like 10-20%...makes me feel like once I get up there I'll never win a whole lot to make it worth it. But like SCT says, results aren't everything and I agree. Just food for thought.
-
and thats why the p5's ranking system is completely flawed. you could be a losing player, but not a complete donkey, log a lot of volume at the higher stakes, get lucky a few times and go deep in some big tournaments, and probably get ranked just based on the fact that you get so many more points if the prizepool is bigger
-
While its true that most 1/2 grinders make more than mtt grinders, he is certainly dissing them. He called them mediocre at best lol.
-
where was this posted
-
lol even if he thought they were mediocre at best y would he say that. r the HSMTTers not friends of his i mean wat a dick lol
-
im sure he is friends with alot of them still, i think he is saying that with the proper roll, dedication, and volume most competent players could be ranked, which is what he meant by mediocre at best...imo
-
say they make 5BB/100hands and they play 50000 hands a month (which isnt shit) theyre making about 5k a month plus rakeback which is what...60k+ a year. Not bad id say
-
For some people fame or simply a positive marketable image is more important than maximizing immediate $EV, and there might not be much of a tradeoff at all for some. Life and people have many aspects and sides and you can't put yourself in someone else's shoes and decide what's best for them
-
Amak speaks the truth, cash games is where all da monies is at.
-
looking at mtter's stats over a year is so variance oriented that its so far from their true expectation....
-
ive just been messing around with cash startin this year, 1 tabling 1/2 for the most part and sometimes 2 tabling and right now im at $65/hr...not sure how long I can expect to keep this up or what avg $/hr/table should be at 1/2 but so far it seems as a nice help for mtt variance and additional income...
-
I suppose the tone of the answer was off, I am not hating on HSMtt players, I think there are quite a few who are very good at poker and make good money doing so, I just think that quite a few ranked players are only ranked due to volume and are mediocre. There are definitely a lot of people on the rankings that make more than 5-10nl+ grinders and I respect alot of them greatly. I still play tournaments, not hating, just saying there are people who try to get ranked and not make money and better themselves as players, this is silly to me.
The article he is referencing is http://www.pokerroad.com/15_outs-one_time/amit_makhija/
Sorry if I offended anyone -
o and amak i dont think ur a dick i just thought it was a strange thing for u to say
-
I wouldnt say 50k hands a month isnt shit. it took me like 6 months to play 50k hands of cash in 08, and it was painful enough

why does #2 ranked "M8kingmoves" have no score/screennames in his profile?
