Ok, so Wednesday, Annie Duke will be testifying before a judiciary hearing supposedly working on our behalf to help establish consistent enforcement policies for online wagering. I applaud her efforts in this regard.
Yet I find it ironic that she (along with Phil and Antonio), the 3 big faces of UlitimateBet, have said nothing about the AP cheating scandal and/or the multitude of inconsistencies in policies that UB uses (see: Gank's recent UB posting).
I'd love to see what she has to say if one of the Congressmen ask her about what happened at AP, her association with that management, etc. etc.
Sure, I realize she is just a marketing face for UitlimateBet, but it sure is quite ironic that a person employed by the biggest cheats in the industry is up there testifying on behalf of the industry. -
Duke may think she has earned some sort of credibility since she has become friends with Joe Navarro guiding her.

Did the scandal happen on UB software? This is news to me... I am pretty sure the scandal was on AP.
Owned by the same company you say? Yes, but are the sites on the same network? No. Not yet anyways and I can't wait until that day arrives. My hope is that they abolish the AP name, use the UB software and create the 3rd major online site using players from both sites.
Good luck to Annie @ the hearing.

"Owned by the same company you say?"
No. I say owned by the same company, day-to-day operations overseen by the same management, internal business processes (security, support, banking, etc.) combined and run by the same group of people.
My hope is both AP and UB slowly become extinct to join the group of sites too incompetent to make money even in the middle of a boom -- Paradise Poker, Planet Poker, JetSet Poker, etc. Hopefully the player base will continue to stagnate and dwindle away, so when they shut down, UB will be left with nothing but some micro-limit bots stealing each others blinds, and AP will run off in the middle of the night with the money of the few players still too stupid to continue to play there.
UB was once one of the first major poker sites, it had fallen to #9 when it was taken over by AP. After the law change AP was #3. Now combined, watch AP/UB continue to lose market share. LOL.
-
they will never be top 3 unless their customer support and the other problems they are having get fixed
-
I like King Rube's idea of AP and UB becoming one site. That would create much less clutter on p5's. All of the fuck AP and UB threads could all be consolidated into one. fuck UB
-
"Did the scandal happen on UB software?" ... I did not say it did.
-
LOL ANNIE DUKE
LOL AGAIN -
What we need to do is make sure the question gets asked
-
They couldn't get Raymer to do this? He would be MUUUUUUUUCCCHHH better in this situation than Annie.

because the congress fears greg raymer's bear claws.
-
His hands or the kind you eat?
-
Especially when Raymer has a law degree. Maybe they felt somebody other than a lawyer should represent as the powers to be don't feel so pressured.
-
I urge you to contact all the members of the Judiciary Committee and inform them of what happened at AP.
-
Maybe she will testify about the 100s of BOTs on UBET that Queen Rube supports.
-
Annie Duke is sickly smart and a great representative.
-
Like they don't know already.
And you think it is a good thing that Congress be innudated with information that confirms the belief of most members, that online poker is bad for people, that they cannot stop kids from playing, and that online poker sites are used for money laundering.
I think a mass contact of all judiciary committe members letting them know that even online players believe that poker site can do whatever they want without consequence would clearly alleivate their concerns. -
Im Proud to have Annie Duke speaking on our behalf. If only 10% of poker players were as committed, through time and money spent and efforts and energy put into this cause, as Annie is to this fight, it wouldnt be a fight. Annie Duke isnt speaking tommorow as a rep of UB, she is speaking as a well known poker player representing all of us, and she will do an excellent job.
Guilt by association doesnt hold much water, and bash a site all you want, but when you call out peoples names and there reputations, there better be some concrete proof that the person was involved. -
I'm sure that Congress will be satisfied that alert poker players will come down hard on sites that don't prevent minors from playing and that may participate in money laudering, etc Don't forget, the members belief that gambling is immoral and that these sites are run by shady characters. But hey, vigilant poker player can root out all things bad and make them right.
The AP situation, if good for anything, highlights the need for regulation and enforcement, not that players can catch cheaters and force the site to make things right.
All I am saying is that the AP situation is not something that anyone needs to make a big deal about because it is more a negative than a positive. -
"I think a mass contact ofall judiciary committe members letting them know that even onlineplayers believe that poker site can do whatever they want withoutconsequence would clearly alleivate their concerns."
Its a start toward change. Do they know? I certainly hope so and will do everthing in my power to make sure they know before tomorrow's hearing. I want to see online poker run in the US not on the Kahnawake Tribal lands or the jungles of Costa Rica.
Edit:
Let me clarify. US citizens are going to play online poker one way or another. Online poker is "unregulated in the US". Lets bring it home. Lets make it clear "bad things" are going on with it now. Lets clean it up and keep those green backs :( in the USA. -
Annie will do a great job as a spokesperson. She spoke very intelligently against the UIGEA last year on the CNBC interview with Mike Sexton.
All of you who are trying to turn this into a AP/UB thing need to stop your witchhunt regarding the hearing. Sure AP was greatly in the wrong in what it did and how it handled it. But this hearing is about internet gambling as a whole not about one or two sites. Corruption occurs everyday in any industry and all of us are being cheated in some way or another on a daily basis. Let Annie speak for us and present her case for legalized internet gambling. It will help us all in the end. -
The only thing wrong with Annie Duke being a spokesperson is that she can speak English faster than most Mexicans can speak Spanish. Whoa down, Annie.
-
"I want to see online poker run in the US not on the Kahnawake Tribal lands or the jungles of Costa Rica."
Totally agree, RichardHurtz. Make it legal in the U.S., and make any insider cheats (or anyone else) legally accountable. Send a few people to the pokie and see how quickly stuff changes. -
King Rube, dude you're ingorant... poker doesn't need a poker player to represent poker in Washington.
Poker needs someone that the average person will get behind, have confidence in and that has demonstrated competence in the past.
Sorry to burst your little bubble... Annie Duke is not that person.

i urge u 2 contact all the members of the judiciary committee and inform of what happen at AP. as an aide 2 congress men fleece'em he's well aware of the AP scandal and totality disgusted by the whole affair. i can assure u he plans 2 ask some tuft questions at the hearing e.g why don't the major poker sites employ prostitutes so players can use thier fpp 2 have sex and instead of buying poker books etc. thats just 1 example of the hard hitting questions he will b asking. if u would like 2 make a political contribution 2 the congress men please send cash as it is a lot harder 2 trace. send 2 the pink pussy cat, combat zone, boston mass..att congress men fleece'em.
