  1. It's called: How I raised, folded, bluffed, flirted, cursed, and won millions at the World Series of Poker. It's real title should be: How I caught cards, sucked out, and just was plain lucky at the World Series of Poker.
  2. "flirted"? yuck.
  3. hmmmm I think Annie's pretty good. Catching cards doesn't make someone a bad player---everyone who wins a tournament catches cards, whether they're great hole cards or lucky flops or rivers.

  4. Interesting point. Moneymaker catching cards, Raymer, Annie...

It's funny how catching cards is only a "bad" thing when other people do it.
  5. EVERY player you see strapping on a WSOP bracelet got lucky to do so, which likely included a generous long run of great cards, a near 1.000% winning ratio in coin-flip hands, an embarrassinly huge amount of suck-outs when they mis-read their opponents and had 2nd or 3rd best hand pre-flop but still won the hand, as well as at least a few times they cracked AA or KK with 5-5 or Q-10 suited, etc. You can be the greatest poker player in the world and get knocked out in the first 10 hands of a tournament, but if you're lucky as hell, you stand a better-than-average chance of cashing. That's disgusting and depressing, especially if you're like me and are constantly being "out-lucked," but that's the real world and that's what poker is about.... who is gonna be lucky and who is gonna end up out of the tourney wondering why god hates them when they lose due to the luck factor. As for Annie Duke, she's a solid player, but nothing special without good Fortune, of which she seems to have a virtually inexhaustible supply. I won't be buying her book....
  6. You actually want to have a 100% winning ratio. A 1% winning ratio stinks.
  7. Joe Chicago is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. i would be very happy to win 1% of my coinflips
  9. ^^^ LOL. me too
  10. Funny how Annie has caught so much flack at poker chat rooms. I guess her personality and table manner are very offensive to some. I for one like Annie's style and I enjoyed the entertainment value of her book.

  11. Read some of what Daniel Negraneu has to say about her....THAT is why she caught so much flack....she was chosen to the tourney of champions, over Harman and Leibert, both who are better players...I have no particular problem with Annie, Ive only talked to her for about 5 minutes and she was very nice...but a lot of the pros dont particularly care for her....

Funny Annie Duke story....I was at the WSOP and I look to my right and see this tight little ass scrunched into low-cut jeans that were clearly 1 size too small...I say to my friend "check out that ass", she hears me, turns around...and its Annie Duke...she smiles, says thank you and walks away...haha!

  12. Me too.....I really don't understand why the hate. Of course I don't really understand why people hate on anyone....I guess it's fun.....and easy

  13. I'm sure she was thrilled to be picked for the TOC, but was that something she had control over? If someone has a beef over that, they should take it to ESPN not Annie.

hmmmmm, I seem to remember that she did kinda OK in that event ;-)

    dela
  14. it's not her fault she got chosen. They picked her because of her marketablity. I wouldn't guess she went to ESPN and told them she was a better player than Jennifer.

  15. i heard the book is pretty crappy. someone got a advanced copy awhile back and it was pretty boring and not much insight into omaha 8/b or any other games. but i guess some may like it
  16. I dont know what it is about her but I think Annie's Smokin Hot!
  17. It is definately light reading and it's value for me was purely entertainment. I was reading about someone that I root for and am a fan of, much in the same way that I follow the Sacramento Kings.

  18. Hey man, youre preaching to the choir...Im just telling you that the pros are a little upset at that..and harbor some resentment...

  19. I agree with 2slick4u u have to be lucky to win a tournament. Just look at Erik Seidel and Michael Gracz when they won their bracelets this year. Tons of suckouts, lucky coin flips, etc. No wonder Seidel doesn't like showing his cards to the camera, everytime he looks down its Aces, And Gracz i've never seen a calling station quite like that. The way he pulled a wheel out of his azz is unbelievable. Makes me sick

  20. you should have titled your thread "why i am jealous of annie duke"

i'm willing to bet that she could school your ass in any game.

  21. Of course she could cuz she's so lucky. I'd have JJ and she'd have 10 10 i'd go all in preflop she'd call and the flop would come 10 10 4. Even Phil Hellmuth said he'd rather take on her brother because he's not as lucky as Annie.

  22. Well, heck, he thinks everyone is luckier than he ... in fact, if there weren't luck in the game ...
  23. yeah you're right, she defies the laws of mathematics and gets luckier than anyone on earth.

you should just come out now and say you don't even understand poker in any way because it's obvious you don't.
  24. Gracz and Seidel got lucky many times to win their bracelets.

  25. oddman, just delete your account. quit poker. you are obviously not fit for this game.
  26. Oddman did you really post something like this in a poker forum? You are commenting on someone (Sidel) that now has what 6 or 7 bracelets? You really should quit now and find somewhere else to waste people's time.. I bet you think Bax and Sheets etc.. are just luckier than everyone else here is also right? And lets not even mention Doyle or maybe Ungar because these guys are just the biggest luck boxes ever..
  27. Annie has always appeared to be a class act to me, and her writing just reinforces that belief.

Anyone notice how most people think Phil Hellmuth is an unlucky player and Annie and GregRaymer are lucky players? Some people admit that they caught good cards and others whine every time that they don't. Unfortunately those who can admit that they caught a nice run of cards to win a tournament are often called unskilled by retards who think anyone who catches some good cards is a bad player and didn't deserve to win.

The fact that people like Annie and Greg can say "Yeah I got really lucky and played well, it was a nice win" is refreshing to me. does anyone really believe that over a lifetime of play Annie has just gotten luckier than Phil? It's how they present themselves. Annie admits she goes on tilt in her magazine articles so everyone thinks she is tilted all the time, but do you really htink that the other pro's who don't talk about going on tilt are jsut even keel all the time.

Honestly if Phil Hellmuth says he'd rather play Lederer becasue he isn't as lucky we can assume one of three things from the statement -

    1. It's true and Howard Lederer is luckier than his sister over a lifetime of play - If this is your belief then ignore this post, you aren't going to learn anything anyway.

    2. It's just that Phil gets beat more by Annie because she has a good read on Phil and plays well against him - seems a bit more logical doesn't it?

    3. Phil is a little nuts and perceives Annie to be a luckier player than Howard because he remembers a few specific instances of her getting lucky against him - also seems a little more logical than the first choice doesn't it?

The only way we have to judge someone as a player is long term results, and Annie Duke is a serious winner over the long haul. That's enough for me.

The only way we have to judge someone as a person is by what we see and hear about them unless we know them personally. I have never seen Annie be rude to anyone and I have never heard anyone I know personally say anything bad about her. I know one or two people who actually know her and a few more who have met her, and when I combine their opinions and stories with the things she has written and what I have seen on television I have no reason to think she is anything but a class act. Why all the haters?
  28. Nothing bad about Annie?
    Have you read this thread?

  29. great thread that one
  30. You think Annie Duke is "smokin hot"? I think I would go this far, and no farther: she is above average looking for a professional poker player.

As for why they picked her over Jennifer Harman: (1) she's got a cool name; (2) she's probably better known; (3) she's Howard's sister; (4) she's been around longer; (5) she's more interesting at the table -- Jennifer's very nice but not very witty or interesting; and (6) she is marginally better looking than JH, and that matters for TV. As far as I can tell, she is a very good player, but I think Harman is world class. I would not want to play at JH's table.
