Her main gripe is that PokerStars is not distancing the company from the remarks that Daniel said about her. She even highlighted and put in bold a particular response PS had that said:
Although Daniel Negreanu is a Team PokerStarsPro, he is an entity to himself
and as such will always be encouraged to express his views and speak his
mind as he would otherwise do so, PokerStars Pro or not.
Daniel's comments came while playing at the WSoP and afterward. He was not playing IN a PokerStars tournament at the time, albeit he was wearing their gear.
What she posted was in bold but she didn't take the entire paragraph in context. PS of course wants to encourage Daniel to speak his mind as he wishes, however the key is the sentence above the bold. It states Daniel is an entity to himself. This means that while Daniel speaks for Daniel, it does NOT mean that he speaks for PokerStars. About the only thing that PS could have done is state, "the views and opinions expressed by Daniel do not necessarily reflect those of PokerStars." A lame, coverall, legalese sentence that is put on just about any tv/radio show where a person who is about to make a controversial opinion is about to speak.
Here is the simple truth, Ms. Duke. Daniel said these words that you find offensive, NOT PokerStars. If you wish to vent about it, do so in an open letter to Daniel Negreanu instead of PokerStars. Whining that PS's won't do anything about it is pointless unless your true motivation is that you wish PSs to drop Daniel.
I remember watching you play poker on UB in the Sunday 200k and some of the things you were speaking concerning then President Bush were both spiteful and hate mongering. Should we then hold UB/AP to the same standards that you ask PS to hold Daniel to? Should they have spoken out and addressed these public comments you made while playing a UB/AP event where you were one of the sponsored Pros?
Perhaps we should all complain about your own remarks during these tournaments and see if UB/AP will "distance" themselves from you?

She really is a fucking cunt (I think that's what he called her right?). I really don't like her.
-
kind of like tattling to the teacher in grade school. if you don't like what someone says about you either defend yourself or ignore them. that being said both are annoying egomanic/attention whores
-
i think she sucks and while ive never been a fan of daniel i think he is good for the game.
-
My point is when Daniel made these comments I believe he was not playing in any tournament but was at a bar or something when he made the "off the cuff" remark. While I'm not a fan of such language, he did not say it as a representative of pokerstars. It would be different if he had said it during a taping "The Big Game" or such. Annie made her comments while playing at UB, during a UB tournament where she was the sponsored pro and had a bounty on her head that was paid out by UB.
Second, she should be writing her open letter to Daniel Negreanu NOT PS if she has an issue with his comments. Doing what she did is a basackwards way of whining. -
Totally agree that this is an issue that should be dealt with between the two ADULTS...not PS. Do they even realize how childish they look and act? Nothing has gone to their heads since 2003.
-
She is a cunt. I think she should slam a tampon in it and cry like a _ _ _ _ y
-
So you work for UB, a company that stole from the online community, and made fake accounts to promote their site on a forum they were banned from, in a thread specifically about letting a rep from UB post on the forum and you have the nerve to be angry at a legit site over the comments of one of their pros? Seriously take it up with Daniel not poker stars. I can't say I agree with his wording but I agree with his message.
-
seriously, how patethic is she to right to pokerstars about daniel. shes prolly the type of person who will complain about their food at a restaurant then blame the server and try to get them fired. Keep daniels sponsorships out of this and just settle it with him. His sponsorship has NOTHING to do with what he said about you. What he said was true, ur not the best female player in the world but you try to portray it.
-
I think Annie is interpreting pokerstars' response as saying they approve/encourage Daniel's insulting comments, which PokerStars would never (obviously) encourage. PokerStars should have said that Daniel is entitled to speak his mind, and left it at that. The fact that Annie believes PokerStars encourages slurs is ridiculous and stretching their response.
That being said, I don't know what the hell DN was thinking making comments like that in an on-the-record interview. I like DN, but I think that was just a dumb, entirely-avoidable move. Dropping the c-bomb like that just takes the integrity of their argument down about 10 notches. -
I liked Annie for a long time. I did feel that she was a good ambassador for women in Poker, heck she still might be. What I find disturbing is her world views and this whole "should women have their own event in the WSoP" shows just how far to the left she really is. I mean I could go on how she dresses like a hobo in oversized t-shirts and such but I won't digress.
She claims that women should be equal to men and that is why there should be no ladies event in the WSoP yet she trumps herself as the best female poker player in the world based solely on career winnings. Daniel at the time was the top tournament casher in WPT events but said that Ivey was far superior overall. He also said, to which I agree, players like Jen Harmen is a far better overall player than Annie. For someone who touts equal rights, it is shameful to try and do an end-around and go after the sponsor rather than tackling the issue head on and going directly to Daniel Negreanu. This indicates that her argument's foundation is weak and she has to "play politics" and the "emotional" side of the argument to have a shot at garnering support. It is a classic diversionary tactic used by someone who cannot debate the specifics.
To this day she has NEVER responded to Daniel's query about why she thinks/claims she is the best female poker player in the world. Why is that? My suggestion is she has no concrete argument to substantiate such a claim. At least Helmuth can back it up with 11 WSoP bracelets.
I agree that she is stretching pokerstars' response. As I noted she only put into bold (thus using it as her basis of her argument) the section that seemingly proved her case, but conveniently left out the key part that stated, "Daniel is an entity to himself" which clearly states, IMHO that what Daniel said does NOT reflect their views. -
Link to interview? EDIT: found it http://www.pokerplayer.co.uk/poker-p..._negreanu.html

But it's no secret that they have had run ins in the past... -
They need to hug it out.

She should just give him one of her "great blowjobs" she claimed she can give, I guess that was an appropriate comment for a mother to be saying on national television.

"Why is it, then, that if you type the word into the chat box on pokerstars it comes out ****? Clearly, PokerStars finds this word offensive enough that they don’t allow their customers to use it to insult one another, yet they encourage their primary endorser’s use of the term."
Kinda like when they had to bleep out your "blowjob" comment huh. Seems like a hypocritical statement to me and I wonder if she ever considered whether or not she offended woman for her comments.
FTR tho I thought nasty things about Annie after she said that............ -
I agree strongly with this post, except for the bold part.

Obv failed her reading comprehension portion of the SAT
-
Ive never understood why the word cunt is offensive to all women. Ok, she might be offended when reading someone calling her a "fuckign cunt" and has a right to be but all women are offended reading that?
Its just a word. -
I got beat up by 2 girls for using the word cunt when I was a youngster. It was horrible. Still have nightmares.

she should have her cunt removed to decrease her cuntiness-- Ari Gold
-
Only a true cunt would do this.
-
she tried to bluff me in a wsop prelim event running a terrible line, thats really all i have to say on the subject
-
It hasn't been stated yet, but let's state the obvious. Annie wrote this letter to pokerstars - and made it public - because she wanted Daniel to lose his sponsorship. She wasn't deeply offended, and she isn't leading some women's rights crusade. She hates Daniel, and is trying to use his comments as a way for Daniel to lose money. She's a bitch.

Oh and this is an argument that could be easily settled with a simple heads up match hosted by pokerstars obv... ith no chat rules applying.
Reason: chat wars ftw! -
Annie,
You ARE a cunt. You are a terrible person. You stand behind a company that has cheated its customers out of millions of dollars. You support them through cover ups and lies. You represent a charity that is more of a scam than anything else. You act entitled and hypocritical.
Please get over yourself and the belief that you are good for the poker community. As much of a clown as Daniel is, you are certainly 10x worse than him.
Get off your high horse. -
Agreed. She wants to start a public sympathy movement to put pressure on pokerstars to dump him which I don't see happening. He is far more publicly liked than she is and is worth more to them than she ever might be to UB.
-
That poker lawyer annoyed me also

This made me LOL....
