I was in a 5500 HU turbo SNg on stars and i was down to about 600 in chips. And then he disconnected... I took my time blinding him off, it was evident he was not coming back... the question is, waht should i do. This happened to me against Ozzy and i was not sent the money back. But i know how shitty it feels and i was hammering him earlier so I feel i'm obligated to send some money back. What would u guys recommend send thing full 5400 back (5500-100 rake) or a portion or what. I do not know this player and have no idea if he would send to me if it happened to me, whether that matters or not. This is a sticky spot where i'd definately send back to someone i know or even semi-know or if i know someone would send back to me, but i still feel gross. What are your opinions ??
-
you could send him $3k and me $2100, and keep the last $300 for your time.
but, i don't know, its tough -
dont send any back...unless there is a decision made where everyone sends when people sit out, if u dont know that he woulda sent for you, i woulda send it. just my thoughts

Being down that significantly in chips @ the time, I would say sending back his buyin and you walking out even is pretty much the right thing to do.

Ugh enough of these posts, people don't owe their disconnected opponents refunds EVER. If you play HSP online you should have at least two internet sources and a couple of friends whom you can call in an emergency. If you fall asleep after registering, well you just lost your edge, but that doesn't mean your opponent should have to lose his newfound edge, refund you, OR suffer any ethical dilemna. Ozzy didnt owe you money and you don't owe this cat money.

Poker is about making money.
One of the risks of playing online is disc.
I'd keep it... -
i'd send it back but try to get a hold of him first to agree on playing again

Yo snake: You have far more scruples than I do. I have a DSL line and a dialup line I can use if my DSL line goes down and I have more computers I can use if my hard drives die. I think the burden of staying connected rests on the shoulders of each individual player..........especially playing at high stakes tables......you actually cut him some slack by slowing down your play and waiting for him to come back.......
Disconnects are part of the game. I have lost some money due to disconnects in the past, but it never even crossed my mind to try to get any kind of remuneration from other players or the poker sites when the disconnect was caused by my own ISP or my own equipment.
I vote you just keep the winnings and move on...... -
all you peopel that woudlnt send back are really sad. the man was down 600-2400, he shoudl be happy to breakeven here.
-
Give half the buyin back and move on.
-
I'd be afraid of karma coming back to bite me in the ass. Ship it back. You'll feel good, and u are good enough to win lots more.
jus my 2 cents. -
yeah take half a buy in a purchase a 50in HDTV for your bathroom because hey its like free money.
-
If this guy is playing within his bankroll he shouldn't care about the 5k just the same as it appears you don't.
Keep it.
Karma does not exist, otherwise nuns wouldn't get murdered and raped.
F karma -
you flamed shaniac jr over this? next time: "dude"
-
hmm, well i dunno. I'm thinking i'll probably send something like 3k-4k back. But I'd like to hear other thoughts.
-
You had 20 percent of the chips right. So give him 80 percent back. So send him back 4400. He doesnt lose too much, and you still made a little bit.
-
obv you are going to feel somewhat guilty if you keep all of it.
why do you need others to tell you that?
just send back whatever amount will make you feel good about it.
brag post in disguise? -
I would probably send half back. Although he had 80% of the chips, he also was the one that got disconnected and didn't have anyone else play for him. Also, 600 chips is one double up short of being even. It could have still went either way. Half may be too much, but its defintely fair.

before reading anyone elses responses...
I don't think your required to send his money back, or any portion of it. 1st 5k isn't That big of adeal for him, but more importantly its not your fault.
But if he ever wants a rematch your should comply. Take him up for as many rematches as he needs... bubt for now the money is yours.(btw if shit don't make sense, im drunk...but my feelings stay the same) -
snake is a gentleman, not sure if i'd do that, well i mean if i had a br that could sustain sending it back i might ponder it, but very classy act by snake esp after that incident earlier.

Yo snake: You are a gentlemen and a scholar. I would NOT have sent any money back, but that is just me. Also, I have played poker with SO many assholes who slow-roll and angle-shoot and talk trash that I have grown to hate opponents at the poker table and there is no fuckin' way I am gonna give them a 'refund' for any reason.......
...but it is refreshing to see that some poker players really are ethical and polite......I commend you....... -
vnvn, not a matter of whether u had an obligation (which you clearly didn't)...it is simply a humane and decent gesture...next time don't brag about it, thanks
hhahahhaahah, jk snake...was nice to hear and hopefully it starts a precedent...Golden Rule owns
also, while people obv have their own responsibility to have secure and alternate connection options or friends etc, i wouldn't wanna win any competition or reap the rewards over some technical bullshit...i know it's for money and in this case, alotta money...but you did a very cool thing

Snake -- Who's to say you wouldn't have come back to win this? It's obviously bothering you or else you wouldn't have posted about it. I think if you send back part of the money, the other guy is happy/surprised but then starts thinking about how you should have sent back the entire amount. Since this was something that was already in progress (unlike yours and Ozzy's) and this guy disconnected through no fault of your own, you win that money by default. Someone else mentioned that you should look for a rematch so he gets a chance to win his money back and that might make you feel better but he'll end up probably feeling worse because he'll then lose twice to you. lol

I agree with Shaniac Jr. You don't owe him anything!!!!
